Arthur Scobie Breasley passed away today at 92.

Considered Australia's greatest ever jockey,he won 5 Caulfield Cups,2 English Derbies & an Arc.
Was also Englands Champion rider on 4 occasions.
A trailblazer & true Australian sporting legend, vale Scobe.
Thoughts are with his family.

Harness Racing also lost a legend today with the mighty Gammalite passing in his 30th year.
Dual Inter Dominion Champion, winner of 94 races, who can forget his battles with the untouchable Popular Alm.
What an era of champs that was, thoughts to the O'Connor & Clarke families.

r.i.p scobie beasley, he was a true champion jockey of the australian region. he reached a great age, and will always be remembered through his medal for the champion jockey each year.

gammalite, this is the 1st ive heard of his passing. his name is huge in warrnambool and the surrounding towns of south west victoria, including his hometown of terang. for the past 30 years he has been our special horse. every now and often there is an article in our local papers about old gammalite, ditto seths comments. sad to see two legends pass away but they both enjoyed a long and enjoyable life.

This year has seen the passing of two of Australia's favourite harness horses. Obviosuly the great Gammalite, and earlier in the year (from the same era), the mighty Queensland champion, Wondai's Mate.

Both bring back enormous memories for me, and Wondai's paid for my 1893 NZ Inter Dom trip by winning the first night of heats and paying $14 a wine and $3 something a place.

Rode over 3000 winners, more than 2000 of them in the UK.
Extraordinary performance.

Got a feeling Strawberry Road ran well in an Arc,finished 5th after dashing to the front at the top of the straight.

Not sure but he was born in 1914 & retired in 1968.
Im guessing around 40 yrs.
He rode over 100 winners in the UK every year from 1955-64.

As highly as he's regarded here,he's considered a legend in the UK.

Some great obits in the UK for him. One suggested the mark of him was that he won IIRC four jockeys titles whilst giving away 20 years to Lester Piggot who was then in his prime.
