Sandringham are looking for some depth this year. Perhaps Scott West and Sandringham can come to a deal: Hot Dog and a coke per game plus a bonus of a McDonalds Happy Meal voucher if he gets more than 25 handballs a game.

From a long time bulldogs supporter let me give you a realistic appraisal.

- Scott West is a champion
- Is he the best or most talented player in the AFL? No
- Has he performed consistently at a very high level for a long time? Yes
- Have the other players listed in this thread done so? Not all
- Does he need 35 disposals to have an impact? No
- Does he hurt opposition sides by kicking goals? No
- Does he create a lot of goals? Yes
- Does a lot of his work go un-noticed? Yes
- Is he the worst player to win one or more B & F's? This doesn't even
justify a response.

Give credit where credit is due. He's a great player. He doesn't have to be rated the best and for what it's worth, I don't think he is......but I'm glad he plays for us.

As for Griffen pretty easy playing the HBF without a tagger every week unlike Deledio, that says it all. Deledio in his second year was tagged each week when was ever Griffen tagged? Lets see how he goes when he steps up to the midfield in the next 12-24 months.

I admire West - he has had a great career & gives eveything week after week but I certainly can't remember him ever standing out like some of the other stars mentioned in this thread. He's a bit like John Wood (the actor). He's been around for ages giving a consitently very good performance but his best really isn't as good as others. Still he has lots of admirers & who knows the brownlow people may just go for the cinderella story this year.

In general I agree with you....but I think West suffers because he isn't flashy, isn't the fastest, the longest kick, or the most spectacular mark.

But compared to many more naturally talented palyers, he has a better football brain, reads the play better, is better under physical pressure, is a sensational handballer, and has the ability to make other players around him look good. He simply has a different skill set but is as effective as many rated as more talented. You also have to ask the question, how can a bloke who doesn't have the speed of most, manage to chalk up 30+ posessions each week whilst being heavily tagged? Some of his handballs under duress are nothing short of amazing.
