Banks is grossly overrated. He played one consistent year - 1990 - albeit a very long injury list. I was a tad surprised to find out he was inducted into the Collingwood Hall of Fame; alongside names such as Kevin Rose and Lou Richards.

Sir Scott Burns has been better over his career then Dennis Banks.
Maybe. He was a teenage gunna be superstar who was smashed from pilar to post by injury which in part was due to how he put himself on the line every time the ball came near. He started as a CHF and used to take species. He ended as a half back. In 1990 he had a bad neck cured with (I think) yoga and came good again. I remember a story that in the 2nd WCE final of a1990 he promised his team mates he would do his job and stop Chris Lewis and asked them to do theirs. He did, they did and the rest is history. Clubs are made of people like Dennis Banks. I think it is a fair comparison. The difference being Burns having less major body damaging injuries from age 19.

Geez Coin Toss........a bit harsh on Banksy. Its hard to say he was grossly overated because outside of Collingwood I dont know if he was ever rated that highly. He could have been absolutely anything as a youngster if it wasn't for constant injuries.....and one of the few who could say they never shirked an onfield issue......ever!

Yes, he never became the superstar he was geared for but he was tough, very serviceable and had the intangibles that were recognised by the outer at Vic Park that made him a better footballer than stats would ever reveal.

As good as Scott Burns.......no, probably not. Hall of Fame material....absolutely!

was replying to wood_duck

he doubts whether the club has had a greater servant........the club has been going for 100+ years

names like

McHale
Coventry
Collier
Mann
Kyne
Rose
Shaw
Buckley

are legendary names, who gave service as players then coaches/administrators etc. they built the club into what it is today

Burns is a brilliant player, but the clubs greatest ever servant is a rather silly comment

Burns is the 00's equivalent of Banks in the 80's the gutsy leader who gives his all every game, and a crowd fav

Just my 2 cents worth from an outsider. I never saw the likes of McHale and Coventry, did you?
Of the current era I think Burnsy has been one of the greats of the competition and I'm no fan of Collingwood. As an on field leader I reckon hes an inspiration and in my opinion would be one of the most valued players in the competition. Every team in the competition would love to have a Scott Burns out on the park.
Call me silly if you must. Sorry for giving one of your players a bit of a wrap.

fair enough mate

in terms of the current playing list burns is a great

in terms of the history of the club and the great servants there are many who gave up pretty much their lives to the club involvements of 50 odd years etc. Burns is a long way off them as servants

Time for the Sir Scott Burns rule to be enforced around these parts again I feel. SSB also acceptable :)

Can't help but feel that anyone laying a sword upon the shoulders of Scott Burns whether ceremonial or not is in for the hurt of a lifetime. Not sure if he could ever become a Sir for this reason.

Actually, I think Burnsy could almost replace Mr T and Chuck Norris as the worlds toughest and most feared man.
