Past Scott Harding (2005-2009)

Scott has been named MVP for U Hawaii which is a pretty good effort from a guy playing as a slot receiver/punter/punt returner. Sure they went 1-11, but regardless still a good acheivment. He's got one year left in college football -it will be interesting to see what happens after that.

All-purpose star Scott Harding was the recipient of the Alec Waterhouse Most Valuable Player Award. The junior from Brisbane, Australia served as the team's starting slot receiver, punter, and punt returner and is a nominee for the Mountain West's Special Teams Player of the Year award.
Harding finished second on the team with 56 receptions for 631 yards; ranked 36th nationally with an 8.3 punt return average, and averaged 40.2 yards per punt while using his rugby-style kicking to help lead the Rainbow Warriors to a Top 25 ranking in net punting.

Big write-up on Scott Harding on ESPN's Grantland site today.

Harding is 28 years old, and he is Hawaii’s punter, but he is also one of the most intriguing hybrid/throwbacks in recent memory. In 2012, when the Warriors’ previous punter, Alex Dunnachie, was suspended for a DUI arrest, Hawaii special teams coordinator Chris Demarest noticed Harding screwing around during practice by slapping footballs downfield with his left foot, and then with his right foot. Demarest asked, “Can you do that all the time?” Harding nodded in the affirmative, and Demarest said, “You’re going to be my punter,” and then he nearly ran back to his office and started diagramming an entire scheme around Harding’s unique abilities.

I'm intrigued because to me he never came across as a player with the necessary commitment to play at senior AFL level, but maybe he has found that added incentive with NFL.

Huh. I was under the impression he was playing purely as a WR.

NFL teams don't usually go in for the flea-flicker genre of plays, but given he can play offense and special teams might give him a little look-in.

He started as a WR and kick returner (not uncommon). He stepped into the punting role when their current punter was injured.

Scott Harding launches the Hard Knocks football academy

http://gridirondownunder.com/2016/03/scott-harding-launches-the-hark-knocks-football-academy/

Scott Harding has had an interesting football career, starting in the AFL with Brisbane and Port Adelaide before getting a shot at american football with the University of Hawaii as a wide receiver and then later a punter. Harding now is looking to use his knowledge to help the next wave of Australian looking to the USA via his new venture Hard Knocks Football Academy.

The academy will be based in Melbourne and the first camp/tryouts will be held in May also in Melbourne with a plan to expand and run camps interstate. The camps are designed to educate the participants on the American game; teach some basic skills and techniques, and to test the physical capabilities of the athletes.
