Scott Lucus's selfishness and thoughtless long left foot kicks stick out like dogs balls in that disciplined bomber unit. Some of you bomber fans would have to agree?

His long-kicking isn't the problem- this is generally very effective, considering his technique.

The problem is he doesn't have a paticularly good "football brain" for a CHF. He is too often caught with the ball, and at times seems unaware of who is around him- r21 last year is a good example. He also lacks the strength of most CHF's. The other criticism, is that his body language is poor when being beaten and as a consequence is benched quite often.

However, he is a confidence player and you have to persist with them so long as they are capable of exploding in certain games. Unfortunately for Scott, I think time may be running out for him.

Most definitely. He is unfortunately a very undisciplined player who drops way too many marks and goes to ground far too easily. I believe that he also is far too predicible. It somehow seems to take an eternity for the ball to get from his hand to his boot. Not particularily good when you try and take on every would-be tackler. He is developing int a taller reincarnation of David Calthorpe!

He did kick 56 goals last year, but i do believe that it is time he had a run in the magoos. He's ahead of Alessio in that regard....just.

The kids that played on Friday night gave a very good account of themselves, and i'm sure Sheedy won't hesitate playing them this week. Lloyd being the only quaranteed inclusion for Anzac Day

James2,
I think he gets caught with the ball because he wants to do it all himself and be the hero. Thats what I mean't by being selfish.

That it a very general statment CHF.

Although this may be the case some of the time, most of the time, it is because he simply doesn't know what to do or who is around him. As I said, he does not have a good football brain.

And, yes topdon I agree that some of the young players have shown enough to keep there spots.

I think you are all missing Scott's main downfall. He fumbles often and repeatedly when the ball is on the ground.

As he is not as strong as most CHB's going around he finds it difficult to take contested marks consistently. He is not alone in this regard as CHF's go. His problem is that once the ball hits the ground he struggles to gather the ball.

This means that upon gathering the ball he has less time than most to deliver effectively. This does not mean he does not have a good football brain. It means he doesn't have the time to use it.

He is probably the one Essendon player I do not consider a threat when looking at match ups with my team, and we don't even have a regular CHB.

As for him being similar to McKernan, they both underachieve but Corey's potential to achieve is much greater. He is also more versatile. They both do seem to lack application at times though.

You guys keep bagging him, I'll quite happpily take a forward who can kick 50 odd goals a season. IMO Lucas is often unfairly labelled as hungry, with the "assists" ge gives off ignored. The only thing I'd like to see him improve is his right side disposal (currently non-existant), as this is what oftens leads to his getting into trouble.

I HATE ESSENDON BUT I WILL BET ANY MONEY THAT LUCAS WILL BE IN ESSENDONS BEST THREE PLAYERS ON ANZAC DAY. WE SHALL SEE IF I AM RIGHT.

APA

I am surprised he kicked 56 last year. I see the player who spills easy marks, gets caught holding the ball and kicks the ball out on the full from 30 out.

With the young guns coming on, he could be fighting for a slot very soon.

Stealth, that may be what you see, but in the last two full seasons he's played he's booted 49 & 50+ goals. Unless one of the yound kids is an absolute gun there's no way he'll put Lucas out.

who does he play for

as for scott lucas at essendon i couldnt disagree more
there is a lot written and spoken about lucas being selfish but you are wrong
fri night wasnt the best example
he does always run onto his left foot but to do that, first he has to get the ball, and he does that a hell of a lot
secondly he plays on, ok he gets caught every now and again but he moves the ball quick, and when the forward line is being flooded it gives the other forwards every opportunity
as for undisciplined once again i have to disagree
i saw scotty play every game last year and i was most impressed with the way he frequently centred the ball to the top of the goal square
you critise him for trying to do it all himself, i can recall this happening, unless ofcourse you talk of the countless times where he runs onto his left foot and boots a goal from 50

the guy kicked nearly 60 goals last year in a forward line where a guy kicked 100 and several others kicked about 30

credit where credit is due?

Personally, I am a fan of him. He may have his faults, but his "pros" outweight the "cons" in my opinion. I can't argue with 57 goals.

He actually had a pretty good game against the Swans. he had 20-odd possessions, and quite a lot of those were deep penetrating kicks.

He may not have a great football brain, but he is a great kick, has good goal sense and is a great kick on the run. Sheedy classes him as a bit of an unsung hero, and I tend to agree. I think his body language sometimes makes us think he is not trying but the reality is he is trying as hard as any other player. You only have to look at his Anzac Day performance last year to see what a gun he is when he is firing.

I'd hate to see him dropped. Even if he is not playing well, he causes headaches for the opposotion, and I'm sure any opposition coach would love him out of the side. Keep him. Anyone who can kick 57 goals in a season is a quality player.

Ive always been a HUGE fan of Scotty Lucas, and so have been very dissappointed with his form up until now. I think he started showing glimpses during the Sydney game, and if he can just get some real good form behind him, he'll make everyone eat their words. I still think that he's never quite been the same since he broke his leg in 99, as he was just starting to get out of a form slump when that happened.

I thought he was Essendon's worst player on Friday night. He's a hog, he's one - sided and he insists on turning to face the goals when he gathers the ball and he's facing the other way. His turning circle is about the same size as the one of that aircraft carrier that's just been in Sydney Harbour.

He was the only Bomber who would have looked at home in red and white on Friday.

I know I said I didn't (rarely anyway) turn against my players, I do think I've changed my tune! I'm definitely not happy with Scott Lucas or his recent form, I think he needs to go back to the reserves for a couple of weeks, get some form and confidence back, then work his way into the senior side.

That's alright though, 'cos we had Troy Luff wearing his Essendon jersey underneath his Red/White one!

Onya Troy!

Well, considering the name of the game is to score goals, one would think the best way to do this (i.e score) would be to actually face the goals. What do you propose he do? Face the opposition goals?

My point (poorly expressed) is that instead of handballing (which he doesn't do coz he's a hog), he turns (which he shouldn't do coz it takes him half an hour.

Scotty Lucas is Fraser Gehrig's long lost brother. The Dons will trade him for Nick Riewoldt and a draft pick at the end of the year...

BMD,
Youre a clown. DId you actually watch the game, or are you just making up crap and trying to have a little cheap shot ???

You'd rate Wallis' effort above that of Scotty Lucas ???? Hate to get too statistical, but Lucas had 20 possessions and was 2nd in marks for Essendon and laid 4 tackles and kicked a goal. Pretty servicable effort I would have thought.

At least with Norff losing Brain Half Full hasn't picked on an Essendon player lately.
Yoo Hoo Kangawhingers !! where are you all?
