Not sure about Giles other than a #1 ruck though Dave.

Can see Fraser offering more as #2 ruck.
would have agreed with you but fraser was close to rubbish today. They wont push lycett into the deep end and have him ruck majority of the game. so Giles will play. mcinnis might come in later when lycett rucks majority of the game by him self and mcinnis can have a chop out here and there.

I can see Lycett being stuffed in fourth qtrs if he has to go it alone

I reckon play Giles .....he can mark the ball .....he's not an unco by any means ...some of the descriptions I had read by BF Eagles posters was that he was hopeless and unco

Yes we were playing Brisbane but he competed ok

Lycett has played a couple of games on his own and done pretty well. Besides Kennedy and I think Darling even were rucking in the forward line a bit today. Could see McGovern or Barrass giving a bit of a chopout if needed.

Don't want to run Lycett into the ground though for if he goes down with injury, well we are really in strife then.

That's my thinking also

Especially late in games

I'd like to see Giles and Lycett for one game ...if Giles knew all he had to do was give his all for ten minute bursts I think he would be OK

Against the Bombers we should have Giles (lycett when he goes forward) just operate off the goal square, Push Kennedy to centre half forward and Push Darling into a high half forward that operates between the arc. Giles is a huge unit so he might be able to clunk a few grabs and will gets some mis matches time to time. Its a bit like how the crows set up with jenkins, walker and lynch.

Don't compare Giles to Jenkins. Jenkins gets most of his goals through athleticism. Giles was so, so, so cumbersome today.

If we were planning to play Giles out of the square then why not an actual forward in McInnes?

Thats true but i think simmo will play Giles till he feels Lycett is ready to ruck nearly the whole game by himself. Mcinnis looks so bad rucking extended periods but he might do well when he has to ruck like 5 mins time to time. I was surprised why he played in defence today.

He is straight back in after his game today without question. Went back and dominated, if anything sent a message back to Simmo.

Hah hah ......he looks it but I have to be honest he was better than I was told he would be by BF members

He competed and neutralised a lot of stoppages ...our mids had to work hard to get the ball and to me that's actually a benefit to our mids development

We might not even bring Lycett back for Essendon. We're in no danger of losing that one (I'm able to take that perspective but I hope the players don't :p). Play Giles (saw a tiny bit to work with, mainly the 1st quarter; if he picks up the pace he could have a bit of influence), drop Fraser for Nelson and see if we can't generate a bit more run.

Imo the longer we spend playing to unrecognised ruckmen, the more our midfield is going to learn about finding their own ball. It's not all down to Priddis, Shuey and Hurn (Yeoey's been alright too, recently) to start our scoring chains from stoppages. If there's one thing that Fremantle is showing us this year (and we showed last year), it's that when the chips are down and suddenly your structures are turned topsy-turvey, there's every chance to reinvigorate the squad and improve not just the 22, but develop some real depth.

Whilst we want to win a flag, I'm not sure that's the only KPI of the coaching panel. We want to grow and experience the kind of sustained success that the Cats and Hawks have had. As we've seen, it doesn't necessarily correlate with number 1 draft picks.

Because McInnes is now a backman apparently. I didn't think they did Fraser any favours. Almost no ruck time at EP and then played in defence most of his TOG. Tried hard but was disappointing.

Good to see Slyce step up to the plate at EP.

Giles wasn't as bad as some posters have made out in the autopsy thread IMO. Obviously he cannot jump as high as Nic Nait and only got 18 hitouts, but he battled hard and took a couple of marks around the ground. Was more influential than McInnes. Not sure what people expected of a journeyman who is on a low wage, accepting his place in the squad as pure "press in case of emergency" back-up.

Just throwing this question out there. should scott bulk up a tad more? scott to me is a bit similar to Nic in that he's a contested beast and wont really offer much on the outside like a goldy and martin. This year he's been great in the ruck but on some occasions i have seen some bigger ruckmen throw him off the drop off the ball a bit easily. He plays like a wrecking ball and if he has a bit more weight to his frame he would be an absolute weapon in the ruck and when the ball hits the ground but also when he goes forward.

Not sure who you are watching, Scott's athleticism is very good.
