Scott Morrison - How Long? Part 2

Thanks for your considered post.

The bolded bit is news to me. Morrison strikes me as a smug alpha bully who turns his Christian morality on and off opportunistically. Do you have any evidence for your belief that he feels conflicted by what he had to do as Immigration Minister?

Personally I think it's a private matter. What he believes is entirely his right and his business, but the nation needs to know he is governing with our best interests at heart, not those of his particular religious persuasion.

That point would have a lot more weight if Muslim Sunnis and Muslim Shi'ites; and Northern Irish Christian Protestants and Northern Irish Christian Catholics didn't have a long, long history of being at each other's throats despite ostensibly praying to the same god.

Anyway, good post and thanks for bringing it up.
Haha. I've got no evidence at all for what I said about him having struggles with some of the decisions he's made; I just don't believe he's a truly evil person. Arrogant, sneaky and at some points nasty, but not outright evil. It's a low bar though, isn't it?

Yes, well I never said he's a truly evil person. Words do have meanings and we should always chose them carefully.

But I did say he's a smug alpha bully who turns his Christian morality on and off opportunistically, and I still feel reasonably comfortable with the aptness of that description.

I mean, no-one's fully evil, not really. Every human that has ever lived will have had at least a single moment in their lives that they gave another person a kind word when they needed it, a gesture of affection or of solidarity; something, anything to affirm a connection. Whether it was only to their mothers or their family, or to barely anyone at all. I don't subscribe to much theology, but yin and yang always resonated with me, if only because of how complex an idea it is rendered down to very simple components; there is always a hint of light in the dark, that subtle shadow at noon.

I truly think that Scott Morrison does what he does because he thinks he is doing what's best; for those who worship his god, for those who don't. But no-one actually thinks they're doing the devil's work.

It has been empirically proven that people fair worse when they know that they are being prayed for.
Does Scummo want for us to do worse?

If he believes that God is all-powerful, which he obviously does, then he has to believe that God is then the cause of this virus, or at least allowed this virus. Really warped and illogical thinking.

The Christians I talk to online say it’s the work of......... da da da
Da devil!
And just like that, the problem of a 4.6 billion year old sun is extinguished!👍

He may not be evil, but he was a paid for shill.

This was not part of the plan so now he is pivoting to be something else. It will be interesting to see where he lands. I didn't think outright socialist was a likely option but it does confirm for sure that he is a chameleon that will do whatever is takes.

Maybe that is what we need right now - imagine we had an outright ideologue in charge

I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek (hence the quotemarks), but going to a mass gathering during a pandemic is not 'helping yourself'.
As long as they stay there and self isolate for a few decades, I’m cool!👍

One can’t help but wonder how the Murdoch press would have reacted if Kevin Rudd’s response to the GFC was somehow influenced by an outside group, or if any other Labor ministers were wilfully endangering the nation’s safety for the sake of their church buddies.

When recently messaging a journalist from The Guardian, I asked why they hadn’t covered Hillsong in any of their recent articles and they reluctantly admitted to trying to work around an apparent gag order.

Of course #scottyfrommarketing is weak and nothing more than a public relations practitioner. Had to be dragged kicking and screaming by the State premiers into taking real action.

Managed three minutes of that before I started to want to smoke crack. For shit's sake, the biggest crisis since WWII and this is the moron charged with seeing us through it.

Having a religious prime minister in these perilous times is, alas, a cross you are all just going to have to bear.

Like Trump. Scomo seems to be leading a stellar team ..

Frydenberg, Dutton, Cormann, Tehan ... and particularly Brendan Murphy and Greg Hunt.

Scomo's creation and leadership of the National Cabinet has proved inspiring.

When the going gets tough the tough get going --- so true. Before our very eyes.

Luvvies left lamenting.
