Just throwing out something for discussion to see if this thread has something to offer beyond outrage. I'm a family man with no debt, my employment is rock solid, and I derive a portion of my income from investments.

Why should I vote for the ALP at the next federal election?

Because others aren't so fortunate and that the election of Labor would see those people benefit.

the reason for the calls for one is the cops cannot touch the accused now that the victim has died (apparently, thats what was reported today)

I understand that but what is the PMO or parliament investigating? This simply isn’t their role.

1) anyone telling you what policies either party is running on in the next election is full of shit.

2) Im not gunna tell you who to vote for, thats a decision only you can make for yourself. Think about what each govt will do and how their policies will effect things in coming years. Costellos plasma bonus was great for 5 minutes, but pissed good money up the wall. Likewise the NDIS and NBN are costing a mint, but their impacts will be profound for decades to come. Think about what matters to you, and ask how will these policies effect things by the time your kids are 20

Would say it's normal behaviour to be outraged by multiple rape and its cover up.

If things are currently so good for you, did & do you then vote for the ALP government in the Victorian state election?

Agree.

Yes I did, and wont be voting for them again while Dan is in charge. If Dan gets the boot, I'll more than likely vote ALP at the next state election.

If the ALP wants to win the next federal election, they need wider appeal than the denizens of this thread. That's my point.

some curious info in the news.com.au article linked above:

Took me 30 minutes to work out who both the victim and her alleged rapist were after reading the article you refer to about 40 minutes ago.
All using google and public info on the internet (without the help of social media or forums to validate anything).

Anyone else worked it out 100% from this article?

Please don't publish your findings (privacy etc etc). Leave that up to the Coroner, Police, family, main stream media etc.

Because you're a lucky man, and there are millions less fortunate getting kicked to the curb in increasing numbers.

Overall no one can tell you who you should vote for. I can't advocate a vote for current Labor to be honest, but absolutely against the current LNP.

I can't see how they'll own a home in Melbourne without financial help from me.

same way our parents did it - buy small and in shittier suburbs. the deposit needed now is a fraction of what it used to be. Its just peoples expectations have risen exponentially.

This is an extremely tricky situation. So a Cabinet minister allegedly r*ped a teenage girl over thirty years ago. No one has yet revealed who the accused rapist is. The alleged victim is dead, so the allegation will never see a courtroom and will never be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. What is the government supposed to do about this? A member of the team is accused of a horrific crime but it can never be proven. Should that man be named without the chance to ever clear his name if it's not true? Should an alleged rapist be allowed to serve as a Minister of the Crown running the country and get away with a rape just because it happened a while ago and the victim is dead?

Reasonable doubt is just criminal threshold designed to avoid wrongful convictions at the expense of letting some guilty people off. The civil court has balance of probabilities threshold. I would suggest parliamentarians should be an even lower threshold, there are afterall plenty of peeople that can do this job that are of upstanding character.

It is a massive fail of democracy when government has been reduced to pandering to self interest.

If you take it to an extreme and a party stated that they are going to abolish all taxation and hand out cash to property owners only then it would 100% be in your self interest to vote them in.

But that policy is also a 100% certain path to a failed state.

People who fought and died for this country - the same people that are the centre piece of the national identity conservatives like to perpetuate - would be mortified about how selfish Australia has become.

Hilarious to hear a guy who offers nothing but outrage in the religion thread simping for a hillsong pentecostal pm who built a government like a megachurch. Liberal voters in a nutshell

Society is a long way off from the golden years when people sacrificed themselves for their country.

Honestly, I think people are ****ing stupid and I no longer have faith in humanity. I'll look after myself from hereon in. I'm not even apologetic for that stance. Unionism is dead, accountability in government is dead. We're on our own.

Fancy being outraged at an alleged systemic rape scandal within government ranks, and having an alleged rapist as a minister.

Going on that comment alone, the LNP is the party you should be voting for.

Yep, it's not too hard to figure out as all the info is still publicly available on the net.

The sexual misconduct allegations should be investigated with guilty parties be held to account.

It would be nice to see the Victorian ALP government held to account, but I wont hold my breath. Such is life.
