This is what I don't get. Is Gladys's hearing over and was she cleared? Why does Morrison just get to decide she did nothing wrong?

Maybe it's an excuse not to run any female candidates.

"Well we tried to, but it turned out the electorate doesn't like people who court corruption".

So here's 20 more anglo white men for your consideration.

Somebody does need to tell parts of the younger (and older) generation that you have to deal with your feelings yourself, not have everyone else protect you from them and naughty words.
You can whittle down literally any policy to being about protecting people's feelings.

* Medicare - people should just get over having to pay for health care.

* welfare - if people feel bad about living under the poverty line, they should get over themselves and get a job.

It's a new line of argument seemingly popularised by JBP that IMO makes no real meaningful contribution to policy conversations. Unfortunately you're probably right that it is a way a large portion of the population think though.

Medicare and welfare keeps people alive and healthy. (and is justified even from an economic perspective, as happy and healthy people are able to contribute).

The LNP paint progressives as people who have gone too far, and too often, the Greens prove the assumption for them.

If the one 'major' legitimately progressive party in Australia is progressiveness gone too far, it's a sad indictment on Auspol IMHO.

Cheats and crooks often make a note of supporting other cheats and crooks when they're caught, and make a point to help them get off, because if they can normalize it then it becomes much easier to cheat more

Gladys would be the first major demonstration to break any attempts of federal ICAC and brainwash Australia into shrugging off dirty corruption

I think the Major conservative party is conservatism gone too far. And I think the Nats are openly corrupt pawns of the mining industry. Roughly 50% of the electorate disagree with me. We're all in our own little niche thinking we're completely right and not agreeing with any one party, let alone person, on every topic.

What a pity it is that journos of Laura's calibre are so thin on the ground. Call the great evader out when he carries on with this s**t.

“Off the fat of the land I’ve been living
It’s only a matter of time
Sooner or later, you will open your eyes
You will return to the scene of the crime
Dig deep at the top of the heap
Now you've bitten off the hand that feeds you
You got nothin' but your soul to sell
You got nothin'
When the river runs dry
You will return to the scene of the crime
When the river runs dry…

Because he's the pied piper and the MSM are the rats basically

He gets the most eyes and ears no matter what he says

Never been a big fan of Bowen, but he's hit the target here - and some.

This is playing into the LNP's hands. They want to continue to make Gladys out to be a martyr and make ICAC out to be the bad guys as protection from that line of attack.

Why not wait until she's nominated then go hell-for-leather. Or better still, let Zali Steggall go for it and stick on the anti-corruption message more generally.

Too hard too early plays into LNP hands.

She's not been found guilty of anything except being stupid. They should play on the specifics. "Her boyfriend resigned for potential corruption and she didn't seem fit to inform anyone that the potentially corrupt person was also her partner"

Yeah, I mean the ALP is hardly going to campaign in Warringah, surely.
Do a Bradbury with Stegle preferences... nah.. Morrison sees this as an 8 point game, get rid of 1 idependent and pick up 1 seat.. a net value of 2.
The thing is that he thinks people like Gladys and that may not be that certain, if in fact she is not charged. Would people vote for her not knowing if she will be charged? The other thing is that people like Zali.

Her boyfriend didn't resign... she sacked him. He was the ex by then.

It appears that a glad bag was thrown on the tip somewhere in NSW. Not surprisingly, someone has found it and wants to recycle.
Not a really good recycling practise I wouldn't think.

I really can't fathom the LNP's thinking with backing Berejiklian for Warringah.

You've been shown to be dodgy and reluctant to tackle corruption at the federal level, so why would you choose a candidate who just highlights your weakness?

In the end, a significant number of people think Gladys did well getting New South Wales through Covid and see her as a competent administrator in a way not felt about a Prime Minister of this country since Howard or perhaps Rudd initially (before the stories of his personal chaos became apparent). Combined that with the vaguely sympathetic grounds for corruption (she was conned by a cad) and the general low esteem politicians are held in (who was the last Premier of New South Wales who wasn’t corrupt, really?) and it’s unsurprising at this point that it’s not considered a great disqualifying political negative.

In the end, for all Morrison’s lies and all the party’s problems with corruption, Labor offers little to appeal to voters who didn’t vote for them in 2019 to switch. To win an election you need to convince people their lives will be better off voting for you. The Liberals understand this, and Labor seems unable to realise this. If Labor wins the next election, they will not govern for long, and will have little to show for it. Changing the leader is not the solution - it may be someone who’s less of a dickhead than Albo but the party needs a more fundamental change than that. Dire times.

Yeah, nah.

Locally, she needs to beat a liked independent local member.

Nationally, she reinforces the “Libs are corrupt” narrative.

while she might be liked in nsw it’ll be irrelevant on a national level. It’s one seat & one seat only. Her nominating for a local seat in NSW will have no bearing on what voters think in Victoria, WA, Tasmania etc, in those places she’s just seen as the local premier that got the ass because of corruption. It could make it a lot worse for Scumo as it can be seen as agreeing with corruption. As for who will be next PM remember Prime Ministers get voted out. Opposition parties rarely get voted in whether that be at a national or state level.
