& there is legal opinion of the constitution.

That comment does not even make sense.

You really are a 'sealioning' expert. The social media equivalent of obfuscation.

And that is a fact.

You really should try out for a spot on Morrison's PR team.

I'm well aware that this all about the politics & you support one side of politics.

Turns out Novak has been transferred to the same hotel that asylum seekers in indefinite detention are held in.

I wonder if people will start giving a crap about the people in indefinite detention as opposed to a tennis player.

Is the tennis player not a person?

The real question here is how was he even allowed to board the flight to Melbourne if his evidence was not correct as the ABF have asserted?

Usually, ABF has someone checking all that stuff before boarding in Dubai…

I have seen first hand ABF peoples interviewing people vigorously in Dubai before they are allowed on a flight to Australia. Sure they weren't Serb's, obviously not au pairs and they were not even white, but still

Actually that is simply not true.

Judged in its entirety, COAG was a successful inter-government forum that oversaw a host of successful national strategies across issues from health to education and child care, crossing party political divides to gain a sense of national action on major policy issues in the face of difficulties presented by the separation of state and federal responsibilities under the Constitution.

And what's more there was an independent national body created to monitor progress on the national agreements and issue public reports on progress on a regular basis, including detailed annual reports monitoring progress against agreed targets.

Sure there were failures, petty bickering and bureaucratic bumbling on several key agreements over time but in terms of transparency, accountability and achievements COAG is light years away from the brain fart 'National Cabinet' BS that Morrison has established to dodge responsibility.
Yeah okay I’ll give you the COAG points. I spent a few grim years doing agency coordination for COAG input from the Health & Ageing Dept. and the shambolic perspective from that narrow lense has unfortunately coloured my recollection for life.

Back to the National Cabinet, it’s a ******* shambles.

& there is legal opinion of the constitution.

not on the notion of control and administration of international borders.

there is only established practice based on both the commonwealth’s powers to enter into international accords, and the unambiguous list of responsibilities and powers listed in S51.

that the commonwealth government chose to “devolve” or rather abrogate responsibility for some elements does not suggest divergent “legal opinion”

Logistics and planning are way beyond this governments brainpower.

thats because the private sector will provide the solution*

I don’t get it.
Assuming AO have the same systems in place as last year, shouldn’t an unvaccinated person with a visa simply be put into quarantine?

Novak could have a legit claim he is discriminated against cos he’s a soft target, not in the ‘nice guys’ camp for political reasons

it’s why these clowns shouldn’t be allowed too much power

Victoria has announced its own RAT system. Qld the same. Now SA has announced their system.

Morrison government leaving a massive vacuum being filled by the states again.

What is the actual point of Morrison?
I said to someone yesterday that Morrison always comes out of National Cabinets and says ‘we have agreed’ only for states to then come out and announce something different (think: definition of close contact). Either the states are just nodding their heads, thinking ‘let the dickhead think we have an agreement so we can get out of here’ or they are deliberately undermining him to nobble his re-election chances (definitely possible with Vic and WA). Thought WA would go their own way first this time, given they weren’t represented at the meeting but the others have taken the lead.

Have not seen the exact reasons for Djokovic's visa being rejected of course.

But today's hearing is merely an injunction on action being taken to execute the formal denial of entry subject to a Federal Court hearing into the visa rejection itself.

Given he is here for the sole purpose of playing in a tennis tournament related to his career his legal team will most certainly argue that he should not be placed in a disadvantageous position until his formal appeal is held.

They will argue he should be granted an injunction (and not deported) and the formal appeal hearing be held as a matter of urgency. It is not outside the bounds of possibility that having access to suitable training facilities will be granted as part of that injunction.

The powers of the Minister in relation to approving visas under the Migration Act are pretty strong (and imho overly so) and, as we have seen before under Dutton (and Morrison), even if the grounds for rejecting his visa are rejected by the Federal Court the Minister can just issue an other one under revised conditions. Whether he does or not will be a matter of politics and that is simply not good enough.

Meanwhile, Nadal sums up the views of many:

Vaccines weren't available, or were in their absolute infancy this time last year.

so have we folded Hotel quarantine now if only people vaccinated or with exemptions are allowed in?
I was wondering when the rule changed
Fwiw I would always prefer to travel on the vaccinated plane

To that end, we've also seen a reprise of the toilet paper/tissue hysteria.

It's like the last two years never happened.

Actually the food shortage issue is due to something entirely different. Supply and logistical constraint issues for SOME large retail chains in SOME states due to covid related labour supply problems in the transport and warehousing areas.

For example, covid quarantine restrictions are directly impacting the number of available truck delivery drivers.

Coles has meat purchase restrictions here in SA but Woolworths does not. All stores are jacking up meat prices due to those supply issues however.

from the guardian live blog ..... fed court judge highlighting urgency of the matter .... and the potential for 'cascading' appeals by the government

any protracted appeal pursued by the feds would have a whiff of performative chest beating about it .... question is, is anyone buying their $hit anymore
