The writing in the Australian has become very poor. It used to be that even if I disagreed with the premise I could at least appreciate the intellectual rigour of the argument. Now their opinion style pieces seem to be written without any regard to the formal rules of logic.
I expect this from the internet age blogs but the Aus at least used to have standards.
Also the premise of that article is delusional to the point of insanity. Who could possibly look at the last days of parliament and conclude the Libs were in control of anything. This is not reporting, its idealogical cheerleading.
Try the geraldton guardian - it reads like pravda for the coalition

Edit : and especially the religious fundies - they are always getting their noggins in there spruiking their bullshit anti gay / anti euthenasia bs

Just the opposite

We all know socialism fails due to human nature. We also know pure capitalism fails due to human nature.

It’s all about efficient and fair taxing, rather than more taxing.

Taxing wealth is far more important an issue to ignore, especially given the global nature of economies and ease of profit transfer.
Is pure capitalism just capitalism without any hint of socialism?

Depends on whether you're a Friedmanite or Keynesian really.

Neoliberals will point to the market being perfectly efficient (until 2008 anyway).

So, back to parliamentary tactics.

ScoMo avoided defeat in the lower house by a whisker last week - how does he escape when the House returns in February?
He doesn't, but he was nearly 2 months to call Labor weak and that they politicise every issue while he does the same thing. Come Feb not only will he lose the house but the Aus public will be especially tired of his s**t. I'm expecting the lead up to Australia Day to be a total s**t show.

The Oreos article ?
In general but yes that prompted me to post.
Its something I've noticed, the sort of Trumpian magical thinking; I want things to be this way and if I say so then they are without any regard to establishing any logical argument, then using that flawed premise as a launching pad for the rest.
First year philosophy students could demolish this stuff in their first tutorial, its embarrassing that this is what its deteriorated to in what passes for journalism now.

The theory is that he will use his personal charm, charisma and robust debating skills over summer to bring the Australian people around to his way of thinking and force Labor to withdraw their support for the bill in question, thus not only avoiding defeat but claiming a glorious victory that will propel the LNP into a new Menzian golden age.

Wish projection masquerading as journalism.
I read it in the Loon Pond today.
I honestly thought he was pulling a swifty and had chucked in a satirical take on her article, but apparently not.
Even by the "standards" of The Australian, she's a deadset nutter, and stupid with it, a very unusual and interesting combination.
A psychologist would no doubt find her (and her conversion from Marxist/feminist to alt-right apparatchik) a fascinating case study.

On their web page it was right next to the latest poll results which made it top shelf comedy

......or he’ll become martyred like his heros

OK, so who's got the most embarrassingly inept Prime Minister: us, or the UK?

Thankfully ours isn’t doing much...good or bad.

From the UK myself but over the decades, how can governments of all colours screw up everything so badly. It’s like governing sensibly is too boring, cmon let’s take some RISKS guys.

Well nationalise the crap out of everything then a decade later we’ll get bored and privatise the lot and then some, that’s one example.
Scottish and Irish independence? Hell no. UK independence? Hell yes.

David Cameron's gamble to extend his political career and now Theresa May's gamble to extend hers could cause a massive economic downturn in the UK, and negatively impact EU and international relations for decades.

It's not even a contest.

Daniel Andrews is toweling the s**t out of Scott Morrison atm. Morrison actually thinks Andrews will sign a dud deal giving more funding to catholic schools lol. Andrews is waiting 6 months until Bill Shortens in office. Morrison will never get his catholic schools funded.

As these catholic schools close, the state govt rents the buildings and runs them as state schools anyway. Of coures the Catholics don’t get unfettered access to impressionable kids but they get a bucket of money, which they also love.

Win win win I reckon
