I remember when Drafted - Lot of Pies fans where Pissed we did not draft Xavier Ellis and Was pissed we took Pendles.

Well they where Very Wrong

If we had taken Ellis we would still be dreaming of winning a flag.

What a champion. Been an absolute pleasure to watch him since his debut back in 2006.

Will never forget that 'steal' he made on Paul Williams against Sydney that year.

Hopefully he can become a premiership skipper in the next few years.

The only not so good thing about his 200th is that he is closer to the end than the start. Been such a pleasure to watch him. Hope he has another 150 in him. Will end up in the stratosphere of all time Collingwood greats.

Really started following footy during the "Shaw Coaching Era" and Buckley was the only reason I sat in the old/cold Ponsford stand every week when we sat at the bottom of the ladder!

P.S My councillor said I will get over Jason Wild one day!

Buckley was/is the most consistent Pies player I have ever seen (Sorry Daics I will always love you).

If Pendles keeps going the way he is then he will surpass Bucks.

The only thing he can improve on is to be become a better Captain than the best I have witnessed in Maxy!

Congrats on the 200th

As ridiculous it may sound I reckon the whole Pendle's injury (niggle) is all about him missing GCS game and having it at home in front of 60k v Norf at the G?

Nah, was limping badly coming to and from the bench from mid 2nd quarter.

I tell any Pies fan who will listen that Pendles is a once in a generation player. Enjoy him while we have him. Players like him don't come around often in the lifetime of a footy fan.

The media have been ridiculous this week. Fyfe's 100th getting more attention than Pendles 200th.

Pendlebury>Fyfe.

I really hope this is just because Pendles is in some kind of doubt of playing with the soreness that held him back last week.

Fyfe is the it thing atm. Great player but he'd get talked up if he had 20 disposals atm.

Usually I don't mind if we go under the radar but for this I think Pendles should be getting the attention.

It'll be the same in 6-7 years in regards to De Goey v Laverde.
I still don't know how he slipped all the way down to pick 20. Bombers were extremely lucky.

Derek Hine says he copped criticism for drafting Scott Pendlebury with pick five

AFL: Collingwood recruitment manager Derek Hine talks about his decision to choose Scott Pendlebury at number five in the 2005 draft.

WHILE some within the industry thought drafting Scott Pendlebury with pick No. 5 in the 2005 national draft was a “monumental mistake”, almost a decade later its proven an inspired choice.

Five All-Australian jumpers, three best-and-fairest awards and a premiership later, Collingwood recruiting manager Derek Hine’s choice looks an inspired one.

“We probably took him ahead of where most boards had him,” Hine told Fox Sports News.

“It was actually my first draft and I remember driving down St Kilda Road post draft and Caroline Wilson was on the radio and she was saying something along the lines that ‘industry sources suggest Collingwood had made a monumental mistake by taking Pendlebury with pick 5’.

“I almost drove into a tree.”

Hine has watched the 27-year-old translate the qualities that saw him excel at junior level into the big league with ease.

“In that particular draft year we thought he played a lot like an indigenous player, he had so much time and so much space. You really couldn’t touch him in a phone box,” he said.

“It’s just that spatial awareness. I think the one thing about Scott is that he was a basketball player at the really high end, so just watch him every time he’s got the ball the game just stops around him.”

Hine said Pendlebury’s on field ability combined with his leadership make him one of the best players he’s seen in black and white.

“He’s certainly right up there ... He’s just so durable and he plays at a really high level week in week out ... no matter what the circumstances,” he said.

“He’s proving to be an outstanding leader ... if there was one thing that surprised me about Scott is just how great a leader he is.”
