Just for something a bit different on our board.

Hypothetical sitatuon: At the end of the season, both of these guys approach the club with their desire to join the list. For reasons such as salary cap, list size management, and anything else I can throw in, we're only able to obtain one.

We can get whichever one we desire, both at the same price (1st Round + "Player X").

Both would be automatic Vice Captains.
Both would automatically be either our best or second best midfielder.
Both would instantly free up the likes of Stanton and/or Watson.
Both would instantly improve our contested ball, clearance, leadership, skill, and just about everything else, particularly in the midfield.

Both will be 24 years of age in 2012.

Who would you take?

Personally I'd rate Selwood's consistency and leadership above Pendlebury, but rate Pendlebury's disposal under pressure, goal kicking ability and ability to cover ground as better.

Considering we have Watson, Hocking, Lonergan and Howlett as decent inside midfielders, I'd go with Pendlebury, who can play both inside and out.

Yeah i think Pendles also - having said that i can't think of too many mids in the whole comp i'd take ahead of him.

Just a smarter player, better decision maker and better finisher than Selwood, and certainly fits into our structure better than Selwood. Not a criticism btw, as Pendles really is one of the more intelligent footballers going around atm....

Pretty hard to bag Selwood, but next to Pendles i think he's marginally inferior.

Pendlebury looks better, but seems to go missing more often than Selwood. I get the feeling Selwood would be the better performer in a struggling side. So I'd take him.

I can see why people choose pendlebury given our current structure. But I will still choose Selwood because of determination and ability to lead and go hard when the pressure is on, just look at his last qtr against the hawks. Plus his skills aint too bad either.

Should have thrown Marc Murphy in this poll as well, he would be a great addition to our mids with his pace and finishing skills. If only we still had lovett.

Close call.

Pendlebury is probably more consistent, but GEE loved Sellwood's last quarter against the Hawks - after struggling for three quarters.

Sellwood just.

On a side note -I would probably go Thomas before Pendlebury - his hard running is what EFC desperately need.

Selwood shits all over Pendlebury as a player, all over him. If we want someone to deliver well from the back flank to the wing, by all means, take Pendlebury. As a player, Selwood is ridiculously better.

Having said that (and it really does pain me to say it) Pendlebury does probably suit our team better, he is exactly the type of player we need, an outside player with sublime skills.

Personally I would take Pendlebury - by a whisker.

I think he has a tad more class and has attributes that are more required at the Bombers.
