for now it makes little difference
he won’t be here forever sadly
its year by year proposition
it is and it isn't (year by year) we are still in debt so if you don't clear it then it will impact future trades and list management, you'd hate to get caught in the same scenario that saw us offering Tom Lynch a packet of chips.

What debt?
Have you seen the changes ?
Mayne, Greenwood and Cox all going. maybe even JT too
on top of what we moved on last Year....

“There’s still a hangover in relation to the salary cap. We’ve still got some issues we’re dealing with there, but they’re not insurmountable at all,” he (Wright) said on SEN Breakfast.

And no wonder, we are paying half the players in the league to play for other teams for the next couple of years, it's just not cut and dried like you say.

Maybe not but he's a 7-800K player and if you want to start restocking you just can't do those bucks.
He no longer is in that pay bracket. He was slowing down this year, a bit inconsistent and you can't play him in the centre sq anymore because he is hopeless in their now. That is the truth of the matter as good a player as he has been. No other club would pay him 700+ He is more like 400+. He is turning 34.

And therein lies the problem, he's never really shown he can go forward and kick goals or go back and be the 7th defender quarterback, he's a midfielder and even if he wasn't slowing down we need to develop the next generation of kids alongside De Goey Adams and Crisp in there. I don't think our offer will be anywhere near 400, it's ruthless but there's FA if he want those bucks.

He'd be perfect off half back with kicking. Hodge style.

Apparently on Triple said we have tabled a one year offer but if another club offered coaching deals in a couple of years would consider.

He is our greatest ever player and I love the bloke, but that shows how far of a mess this club is at the moment if your Captain who has never made many mistakes and been perfect in the media and off field thinks that is ok to air that in public. He is not stupid and knows it would create a headline and put all the pressure on the club to up the offer or put an extra year on.

I couldn't see a Selwood or Cotchin essentially holding the club to ransom.

We don't need the noise and hope Pendles just quietly signs one year deals until retirement

Pendles is a truly great player but no not our greatest ever.

Holding the club to ransom... god what a stupid post.

He said he'd look at the options. He wants to remain a one club player, but if a club offered him a coaching gig he'd look at it, doesn't mean hes leaving does it bud... He's been very clear he will be coaching at another club firstly and not Collingwood since last year, he's not holding anyone to ransom.. He's just been clear what his ambitions are and the club fully understands and has known for years.

The real crime is that Ned “the w***er” Guy signed up Sidebottom.

GW is simply doing what he did at Hawthorn. One year deals for the older players. It is prudent salary cap management. I have no problem with that. Pendles is entitled to look at other offers and leave - just like Lewis, Hodge, Mitchell did. It’s smart as the club appears to be looking after the player etc.

Hopefully one day more people will realise how far Ned Guy set us back.

Also a huge Pendles fan and I’d expect him to stay on a relative cheap 1 year deal but if he sees a chance to initiate a coaching career we absolutely encourage him to chase that dream. Will always be a star and much loved captain / premiership player of our club. And we look forward to his father son / daughter offerings to continue the legacy.

What compensation would we receive if Pendles left as an unrestricted free agent? (read on Twitter Suns would be a good option)

Would we better trying to work out a “deal” with the Suns? Involve another player or two and get something back?

Love Pendles but if he decides to go then so be it. We need to stick to our guns.
I think if he gets a good coaching offer tied in after a decent final year contract he will probably move.
He's still a good player but the cracks are starting to show so although it will be saddening it will not be a tragedy.

Who knows in 5 years time he may be ready to coach us.

1. I reckon he’ll stay.
2. I don’t have a problem with him going elsewhere if he gets a significantly better deal or a transition into coaching.
3. If (2) were to happen and a Pies fan boos him at a game, I will personally hurdle several rows of seating to stab them.

Greenwood + Mayne, 2 of our best club men and standard setters when it comes to professionalism have/are leaving.

We can’t afford to lose our no1 performer in this area.

For what it's worth I think he will stay yes, and something will get done.
I still don't think it's a good look when the captain of the club says he has an offer on the table and add in at the end he would look at other offers if they came nearly asking for something to be put to him.

Rubbish. At a time when the club is drowning in negativity and doubt the bloody captain of the club comes out and says he might reject Collingwoods offer if a better one comes along. That is pathetic. Why wouldn't he see his playing career out at Collingwood However long that may be and worry about his coaching when he retires. Do you seriously think he'd have trouble attracting interest as an assistant.
I am disgusted.
So if Carlton offer him a coaching role along with a 2 year contract you'd respect him if he played for them next year?
The club is really imploding if the captain is holding it over a barrel at the age of 34.

You have absolutely no idea - like the rest of us - what the talks between him and the club have been so excuse me if I roll my eyes at your grandstanding.
