Did the doomers on this board actually listen to the audio of Pendlebury, rather than just reading the way media outlets are spinning his words with the addition of emojis?

He sounds extremely confident something will be done with Collingwood.
So why add anything to the comment so there is doubt? He's been around long enough to understand how the media operates. Stupid.

For what it's worth I think he will stay yes, and something will get done.
I still don't think it's a good look when the captain of the club says he has an offer on the table and add in at the end he would look at other offers if they came nearly asking for something to be put to him.
You still can't say a bloke like Pendlebury who has given us everything ands owes absolutely nothing to us... is holding the club to ransom..

Maybe not holding the club to ransom, that was probably a bit strong and yes he owes us nothing.
But if any offer did come what do you think he will do with it, I'm sure it would used to get either another 'playing' year from us or a few more dollars.
He knows the offers to coach will come when he retires anyway, without coaching added to his next playing deal.
I just think its a strange comment from him and journos are already making a story from it, which I don't think is a good look for either Pendles or the club.

I don't really care because he's not going to be in our next flag, he's given us everything. He wants to coach. He's said this for years. Listen to the entire interview because it sounds like you haven't..

Is there another team where players are less willing to 'take one for the team' when it comes to contract negotiations? I mean it's their prerogative and all, but just seem terrible at getting anyone to sign for unders.
Probably a flow-on from our willingness to give average players significantly above average money

Might be in his best interests to part ways, he owes us nothing, Suns will give him more money and a 2 year deal, no brainer.

Not sure it's in his best interests to uproot his family in times like these and move away from where all his extended family are.

Wouldn't be great for his legacy either, if he left in those circumstances I'd consider him more a mercenary than club great.

I think his corona comments of late have soured me on him a bit, just another dumb-**** sportsman.

Humiliating when not even Scott Pendlebury will take a reduced salary and help out. I wanna be angry at his selfishness but at this stage, you have to ask why nobody will stay at this club for fair value. If even Pendles will drag us through the mud for a few extra bucks then clearly it’s not the fault of the players, it’s the club and those at the top.

Athletes should chase money as long as they can, he’ll never earn this money again.

Strong clubs need to know when to say no, this could be the first time our club is going to be strong. And a good way to start if required

Watching us butcher the ball today through the midfield, and our delivery inside F50, to lose Pendles would be a complete disaster, and it would end my membership at the Pies. If they let him go without offering him what he deserves, that would be inexcusable...

You don't think over the 14 odd years, that Pendles could’ve taken more money at other clubs, but stuck with the Pies?
Im tipping he would take a lesser contract, with an additional year added. I doubt it's about $ with Pendles, but longtivity and support for his future post playing...

He won’t be twiddling his thumbs from 40 years old until 80. He’s Scott Pendlebury, he’ll get a coaching gig/media gig worth mega dollars, and the club will take care of him indefinitely. His earning potential is certainly not limited to being a player. Coupled with his investments he’s made over the years, he’ll be a very wealthy man forever. These next two seasons until retirement might be his poorest financially for a long time.

This makes me laugh. He didn't give me or the club anything other than what he and every professional player should- his best each time he runs onto the ground.
As the captain of our famous club which has given him more than he could give back, he should have committed to Collingwood's offer and said he is determined to lead the young kids into a brighter future.
Sadly he didn't do that. Selfishness seems to rule at our club.

He's financially set for life. You write as if he is a martyr for choosing to play for our club.

That really sounds to me like he knows we aren't offering a lot of money now the window has closed.

Pendles played for Collingwood for 14 years… I doubt there’s a club that would have paid him any more than we have

Hes legit got one year left of playing... Oh poor you.

His last few years of his decorated playing career have been turned into a farce through list/cap management and political instability.

He owes us nothing.

If this was your workplace you’d be assessing your options.

Regardless of what the media may be saying, can anybody seriously suggest Pendles doesn't want to be a one club player? He's captain and his job is to lead and teach the young players. If he doesn't come out this week and say unequivocally he's staying, I'll be massively surprised and disappointed.

What is wrong with saying "That's a matter between me and the club, as it should be." Why does this have to be aired in public at all? If you want to put some feelers out quietly that's what managers are for, but why in effect stick a for sale sign on your head with flashing lights at all? What does it achieve, beyond coming across as woefully tacky?

In the minority but I don’t mind this.

I’d rather a player swap than a crap pick...

but we need the draft points and salary cap relief... and unlike with Treloar, Pendlebury seems happy to do this so it won’t hurt morale and culture

Win-win
