Nobody was talking about Nick Dal Santo after his first season. He wasn't that impressive. He didn't even get a Rising Star nomination - I'm sorry, but if you haven't had a Rising Star nomination, then nobody would be talking you up as the second coming.

It wasn't until after his 2nd season that he got some attention, because he came in and played the last 8 games and averaged 19 possessions per game.

Give Pendlebury the 2 years that it took Dal Santo before writing him off.
 
Pendles always seems to get the ball in traffic. He's not a Cousins-esq (yet) player who runs out of traffic, and with a basketball background, his idea is to quickly get the hands off and provide the shepherd etc. He finds it, he brings others into the game. His role isn't to be a runner, and I can't see him being one, but he is capable.

As said in this thread, he gets plenty of slack I guess, but to me, he seems a very fine footballer who is still going to improve, and what he has shown so far is great signs. Has dominated at VFL level and done some very good things at AFL level, for a first year player in a team that finished 7th.
 
I think he is very composed in traffic. He is very agile and has fitted inot the Pies' team nicely. I would expect to see him be a regular on the wing next year.

Iam not writing the kid off by any stretch...I simply think he has some deficiencies that need to be worked on.
I didnt realise that Dal Santo was never nominated for a rising Star but by my recollection he was part of a group of kids that was gonna turn footy upside down and bring the tin cup to the saints. Maybey I bought the hype at the time.

The kid has played a couple of years of footy so you can understand coming into the top level that he looks a little lost at time but the talent he shows with a great kick and good speed and poise for such a young man is brilliant IMO. He is a long termer but after this year, remember he had glandular fever earlier in the year he has every right to look tired for an 18 year old.

I am very excited about his future and althoguh he has at times looked a little lost in the big league, a full pre season and more experience under his belt will see more improvement as he finds his depth in the big league.
 
I watched the replay of this game the other night and must say Pendles was by far our best player he was in everything laid some nice tackles aswell , nicholls was solid without being great and Cox was beaten by N.Ablett although he had a few nice runs out of defence. Also kingsley got on top oF JA in the last half (through strength mainly but this will come after a few pre-season in the gym).
Cook has pace to burn was on good leads time and time again but had the ball kicked over his head to Rose who was usually 2v1 contest (might i add he looks like agood player rookie perhaps?) this was mainly in the 2nd half and the ball hit the ground and was rebounded for geelong.
Rowe had a shocker and Useless oops I mean Richards showed us all again that he is........................ well useless.
Spewing that they lost especially since they were well and truly on top in the 1st half.

As for Dal Santo , the lad played 18 games in his first year of 02 to Pendles 9.Maybey some were fed to him maybey some were not, but you could argue the same for both.If you are fairdinkum you will admit that we were only competitive for half a season this year and 5th was lucky.

where did st kilda finish in 2002? we finished 5th with no injuries, much harder to make the team than st kilda back in the early days when they had noone

The one thing Pendlebury needs to ensure is that he learns how to hurt with his kicks. Dal Santo even then had that higher degree of finishing.

Like Dal Santo at an early age, Pendles has to learn how to be a bit more physical. Dal Santo overcame this somewhat. I don't subscribe that physicallity simply cannot be taught. Yeah, they aren't natural hard-nuts, but a degree of committment can be found through training and application.
 
Please dont start comparing a 1st year player to Dal Santo's. Might aswell compare it to Judd's and just say Judd had more of an opportunity.

Hi all, this is my first post and I want to use it to support Pendles. I think the guy has so much class, and while there's a lot to be said for the good honest blue collar midfielders, I'm looking forward to seeing a rolls-royce in our midfield for the next decade.

I've struggled with glandular fever since May. This is the condition that robbed Scott of his pre season, and yet his brilliant form for Willy saw him break into our seniors by round 9, and remember that at that stage, we were on fire. I believe that he has probably continued to struggle with the illness for the rest of the year. Somedays I struggle to walk around my loungeroom, then I might feel ok and go back to work, only to relapse a week later. I think the off season will do wonders for him, and anything he produced this year will improve markedly next year.

There are plenty of players i've seen come into our side over the years who had less talent than Pendles does in his little finger. That one play against Sydney where he was on the ground but still managed to slap the ball out of his opponents hand, gather the loose ball, and dish out a quick handpass sold me on him completely. Lets give this kid a chance.
