Is Pendles the best young player ( under 20 ) we have seen at Collingwood since Paul Williams burst on the scene as a gun in 1991?
Despite my ''newbie'' status, I have followed the Pies since 1976 ( bad start ) and I cannot recall any other youngster that i've been more impressed with.
At 3/4 time when he attacked Tarrant, well that just topped off my opinion of him. I thought Heater was a shoe in to be our next long term captain, ( allowing for Jimmy to lead for a few years ) but now I think we have another brilliant option. :thumbsu:

Thoughts???

Not sure about his potential captaincy credentials but he leads by example. As for his undoubted talent, we all will be watching and enjoying for many years to come.

Pendle is a God. You forget he has played only about 19 games. Love watching him cruise through the midfield.

Has everything. To see him deliver a verbal blast to Tarrant and have Tarrant walking away from him.....then not shake Pendle's hand at the end, showed me a lot about Pendle. Great to see that on top of his obvious class and talent he also has a bit of old fashioned pig in him.

He's started like a house on fire, has Pendles. If Tarks has a form slump I think he's an outside chance for our best and fairest. A shoe-in for the Rising Star award at this stage too. As he said in an article written for collingwoodfc.com.au “I’ve only played nine games so far this year and I want to be solid for the next half of the season, if not pick it up another level.” I would be very very excited if he took his game up another level.

Sav Rocca burst onto the scene with a few bags (of goals) beside his name. He was pretty impressive that year also.

peter daicos!
but yeah i agree he is a special talent. imagine how good he would be if he had played more footy before being drafted

His consistency is simply brilliant. For a player like he is, where he shows that flash of brilliance, consistency seems a problem. As for Pendles, he is just the perfect all round player. Great skills, terrific brain, consistent and he has that ability to make everyone around him go in slow motion.

Champion, already.

The best thing about him is the way he uses the ball ... you watch he never wastes a possession. Also loves the way he plays in tight ... he looks like he should be easy to tackle but he is so elusive. Future champion.

My wife tells me that i have a man crush on Pendles - I LOVE the guy - absolute champion!

Not sure if he will be captain - will be an awsum leader - but i have a feeeling Thomas will be our next long term leader - just something about him and how the boys react to him - he has the Hird X Factor to me!

Anyways it is nice to have some options for our next leader for a change, whoever it is; Heater, Pendles or Thomas they will do a great job and the club is in good hands for the next 10 years!

Is it true this is only his third year of football since under 12's?!?!
AND that he had glandular last year?!?!

if so, and there is a 'next level' for him, may God have mercy on his opponents.

Best young player at Collingwood since Bob Rose burst on the scene at age 18 in 1946! Serious, there have been many greats since, but not as young and relatively inexperienced in the game, with so much potential. Daicos was a great, but off field dramas and the fact he was an experienced junior footy player mean that Pendlebury has even more potential if he keeps his head screwed on straight.:)

The kid has got class. Well balanced and a smooth mover. A real footy brain. His kick to Johnson on Friday night in the 3rd qtr was a perfect example of how clever he is when he has the footy in hand

he;s not even all that quick which is something im normally critical of in a young player but with pendlebury it doesnt matter. brilliant to watch, very smart footballer with silky skills, i hope the future is just going to show improvement. rising start this year

It would be horrible to Pendlebury if I was to describe how good he is in words, so I can unfortunatley not express how I feel about him.

The best thing about pendles is he is still hard at it with tackling, shepards, abusing Tarrant etc which is something young kids with skills like that dont often have at this stage in their careers.

I love the kid but lets get a bit of a grip. Its good to be excited but I reckon we are going a tad overboard. Anything can happen. The next challange for the kid is to cope with a tag. This will happen very soon. He is still not getting a whole lot of respect for the opposition allowing him to find alot of space. Look how good deledio was 3 years ago in his first season. He has struggled a bit in the last 18 months and is only now starting to cope with having a bit of attention.

I'm not sure that this is even true - I think his speed, if he needs to use it, actually isn't too bad.

However, seeing as he rarely actually has to get out of 1st gear.

If he's not captain material he will still be a leader because the way he plays he sets an example.

Love watching him play, it's like poetry in motion.

I love the way how he stops before he is tackled and is able to get his arms up over the tackler to handball away.

The only things I think he could improve or show more of is urgency to move the ball on which he has done this year but last year it was a query of mine. Also his kicking skills while great most of the time have the potential to be much greater. But in reality there are no Buckley-esque users of the ball anymore. No young players can deliver 50-60 metre chisiling passes to a leading player while he is at full pace or under duress (i.e. kicking around the corner). Not even Judd (who's kicking is great but nothing special IMO, goal kicking however is sublime). B.Harvey at times shows this. Deledio from some of what I've seen is close to showing this. The modern game is about moving the ball quickly while keeping possesion and long 'low percentage' kicking to a target may be being phased out of the teaching of our kids.
