Sorry to intrude, but that's exactly how we feel. I'm not convinced he'll amount to much, really. I am concerned that his ankle will never be right again, but giving up nothing more than cash makes it a very acceptable risk to take.

A lot of Geelong supporters are hoping that he'll turn into a good tagger. I think pick #37 is fair and I don't think your club ever harboured genuine desires to match.

If he gets his ankle right he will be serviceable. Geelong are not silly, they know what they have picked up here. A super team man who on his day will rack up high possession counts but do little damage to the opposition. Many West Coast supporters fell for his high possession counts but stats don't make you a good footballer. I suspect if Joel was not playing then Geelong would not of looked at him. I wish him and your club well as from all reports he is a terrific guy who will bleed for your club, but once again that has little to do with being a good player. All the best.

Well it was an easy decision for SS. He gets more money and the Cats have a place for him in their best 22.

2 things WC weren't going to provide him.

If he gets back to his best he's a chance but there's no guarantee he'll get over his ankle problems that have derailed his career

I agree but Geelong look like they will play him as a tagger. As opposed to WC with Simpson who hasn't assigned a dedicated tagger since WCE vs Carlton earlier in the year.

Which actually went really well

IIRC, earlier in the year when Selwood was returning from injury, he was pretty much bought back into the best 22 straight away. During a press conference Simpson was questioned about this and his answer was pretty... subdued. He made some comments about Selwood being a vice captain and former B&F winner.

Simpson, a lot like Worsfold, seems to keep his cards pretty close to his chest... so it's difficult to draw any firm conclusions. But reading between the lines I felt that he might have been over-ruled by the match committee. Selwood then proceeded to play pretty poorly... or perhaps being more diplomatic, it's fair to say he wasn't playing to the game plan very well. IMHO, it stuck out like dogs balls... he was caught out on several occasions, being out of position and out of sync with the rest of the team.

From that point on, Selwood went back to the WAFL and became a fringe player.

But Scott Selwood didn't have a beard.

Yeah except for 1 game where West Coast choked and Sam Mitchell ran free! But they did well other than Grand Choke Day.
Surely you are a troll account. It seems very much like you are just using SS as an angle to repeatedly rub the GF loss in our faces.

I was saying before the GF WC needed a tagger (pref Selwood) on Mitchell. I also said that we would be screwed by RFT and needed to match Selwood's offer, or we would get left with a 2nd round draft pick #35+.
But you sir sound like a yes man, only wanting to hear opinions like yours.

WC learnt a lot this year! Simpson is going to be hungry for a flag next year!

Not sure we were screwed though, judging by his play this year a straight swap with Giles would probably have been spot on
