Was worth the roll of the dice IMO, didn't work.. Now glad we cut the cord so they can't be tempted to play him.

Would really like to see him play and captain the VFL side... From a leadership and development side of things i think he'd be really good with the kids.

Couldn't blame him for fleecing a pension out of the Suns if they were silly enough to give it to him, the did give Murdoch 3 years after all

Never thought he was worth getting as he was clearly too hampered by injuries.

The irony was he was one of the few who always gave absolutely 100%, but his body no longer had quality footy in him. Hopefully they'll finally learn that lesson.

I do recall you being against it at the time and stuck with it thru the time. :thumbsu:

Correct call as it turns out - but respect the bit about him giving 100% even when his rig would not do it anymore.

His body clearly is shot now but he gave us a few quality games. I wonder how differently we'd look at his recruitment if we'd done more with our dominance in the 3rd quarter of the Richmond QF in 2017 when we were all over them and he was playing a big role. When you look at that game and the next week against Sydney it's hard to argue he wasn't worth the gamble given it only cost cap space.

Some really kind words from Wells about Scooter and what's in his future - full article is a positive read:

“Scott was certainly ready for that. He came in and it was an interview in the end where he turned the tables on us.

“He made us very grateful for having Scott Selwood at the club for the time that we did. He is one of the best we’ve ever had to deal with.”

While the struggling Gold Coast Suns appear like a good fit for the highly rated leader, Wells said Selwood isn’t interested in moving to play for Stuart Dew’s side, preferring to turn his attention to coaching.

“I can’t speak for the Gold Coast, but I’m sure they would have been or his manager would have been or his manager would have had some conversations over the course of the year,” he said.

“But my understanding is Scott doesn’t want to have a crack at going to the Gold Coast.

“He is looking at a coaching career now. He would fit into any club with his values.”

Must be great not having chairs thrown at you.

Sad to see him delisted. Solid player but probably seemed to be the less talented out of all the Selwood's. I hope he can continue to play somewhere if he doesn't want to give it up.

It seems we have really hit bone a couple of times.. sooner or later the right FA has to come along ...doesn't he?

As an Eagles fan/Selwood (all) fan, sorry its ended for Scooter, was sad to see him go to you guys .... at about the half way mark of 2010 he was on for AA honours before injury, went on to win B&F in 2012, and IMHO he was still in our best 22 before he left us.
I'd have liked him to go to the Suns to instil 'how its done' even if he played NEAFL & only occasionally, either way well done Scotty. Yep, the body got him.

Sucks that he's gone but I think it was the right call picking him up when we did. He came with significant injury issues, we got 34 games out of him and he was always a professional and very team orientated type player. I'd say that whilst it would have been nice to get 60-70 decent games out of him, his positive influence at the club over the last 4 years will benefit a lot of the young guys into the future.

We also got him as a free agent so we paid nothing to begin with, can't complain too much about that!

Obviously didn't have the on-field career with us that he would have liked, but everything you read or hear about the guy shines him in a positive light and about his professionalism. He will be a valuable asset to any team who picks him up for a coaching or development role - seriously hoping our VFL side does just that, and even a playing role with them for another year or 2 wouldn't be the worse option

Thursday night he received his 2nd Tom Harley Clubman Award, to go with his win in 2017, the same year he won our community champion award - another indication of how he conducted himself during his time with the club and how well respected he is

Another player we head hunted that didnt work out. There are a lot of these now:

Mcintosh, clark, caddy, selwood, smith, henderson.
Smith,Selwood cost was minimal
Clark, caddy, Henderson were first round picks netting Parfitt now, and Jack else

Clark was Varcoe actually but fair point.

Yeah it was never, absolutely never about effort with him. Can't think of a player on the list who tried harder.

My gripe is more with the club failing to that recognise injuries were clearly hampering him and weren't going to get better. It's one thing for fans to hope for the best, that's fine; it's another thing for clubs to act like that. They should be, and need to be, dispassionate and more coldhearted for want of a better word.

We never really did this then Hawks won a few flags doing it so we thought we will try this....But the hawks got average players and made them better we have not done that

Yeah, I bet Caddy is really disappointed at the moment that it did not work out for him at Geelong.
It must be very disappointing being traded to a team that then wins two premierships in three years.
You poor bastard Caddy! I feel so sorry for you.

According to the Addy he is on the hunt for a coaching job in the VFL.
I'm sure he'd prefer Geelong, but there's no indication that it will be yet.
He would make a great coach, but I think maybe a few years as a assistant coach somewhere first, then take the reins of a VFL team.
On our VFL team is OBree still contracted?
