Just watched the Vfl highlights v Colingwood.
This kid can really play, very good pair of hands seems quite mobile and has footy nous. In a year or two will be ready made replacement for Moons.

I guess the thing about highlights tapes is they're highlights - we don't getto see how many marks, if any, he spilled. Having said that he looks really strong overhead, was taking some great pack marks as the Pies seemed to be double-teaming him.

Sorry, but that's absolute stupidity.

I don't think it's that far-fetched; perhaps amend it to Mooney in his current position. It's the kids first year and he's consistently kicking a couple a game. Consensus is that he has no star qualities, is a great mark and clearly works hard.

fev went low i think, williams (although not extreamly tall), welsh? tippet went around 32, robbo from melbourne was a rookie. either way i saw the kid play he looked good, really good for a first year player and i think everyone agrees we have a future player here besides well's strike rate is amazing why do u think we have this much depth? im sure he knew what we were getting and im backing geelongs coachs to bring him through. dont expect him to b a roo or a pav or a jb but i do expect him to be a simpson dohhh lol:D

Agree sarah. The kids one of the best KP prospects we have had (excluding T.Hawk). If his name was ablett he would have a couple senior gigs to his name by now.

I have to say early signs indicate we did quite well out of the draft. Watching them play I am pretty confident S.Simpson, Mumford, Moles & Davenport will play AFL footy which is a pretty good return from one draft.

who was 'the natural'?

Here's some hints:

- Chin

....

- Chin?

PS: You've been here since Oct 2003 and you never saw a reference to The Natural?

8 Goals today.. SSP eating some humble pie?

SSP stop being so harsh on this bloke, he is a prodigious talent and one that we are lucky to get so late in the draft. Come back and 5 years if he still struggles to kick. But i would think that by the end of 08 we will see a much improved Scotty Simpson.

mm delicious... want a slice? Although it is a bit stale..

Does anyone know why he was delisted?

Are his knee and ankle too badly stuffed? Attitude problems ala Todd Grima? He only got to play 2 VFL games this year and wasn't too bad in 08. Young kids usually get 3 years before they're delisted, that's why it's surprising to see McKenna and Donohue go as well.

He was supposed to be the next Mooney. A 10-year CHF. Mooney's only going to play 2010 before joining the Gold Coast. Puts a bit of prssure on Mitch Brown to be a regular in 2011. Unless the big plan is to draft Podsiadly?

From what I understand his injury was no worth than Mitch Brown's, and both were expected to be ready for the preseason.

I agree that it's unusual for kids not to get 3 years, but I think that reflects that at our club, the list is so strong and competition for spots demands you continually improve. Even young Ranga, as highly rated as he is, will be under pressure to show a fair bit next year.

For what it's worth, I suspect Simpson will be re-drafted or rookied...as we do need some key forward depth. If Pods decided to nominate, we probably would, but from what I hear he's happy with his life at present, so don't expect to see him on the senior list in 2010.

couldnt believe it when he was delisted, has been very solid in intra club matches and the few nab cup games his played.

edited for accuracy.

I also think geelong will consider moving him to the Rookie list if he isn't picked up by another club before then. I do not think they will draft him back onto the main list. If he gets back from injury and performs from rookie in '10 then he would be an elevation chance. (I dont think Ranga will make it)

Just read the kid has signed on to play with Casey Scorpions in 2010, hope he does well and enjoys his footy.

I thought he had signed with Frankston Dolphins, seeing as though he was a Mt Eliza boy (7 minutes up the road), although Casey Fields is only a 25 minute journey across town.

Good signing for Casey though.

Scott Simpson, Jack Watts, Michael Newton.

Promising forward line for the Scorpions.

He originally said he was going to and stay close to home. However since then Frankston have gone through a lot of turmoil with financial problems, new coach, turning over half their list etc, and are likely to struggle in 2010, so maybe that turned him off (I have no inside info, it's just a guess).

Anyway I hope he goes well.
