According to The Australian

Melbourne midfielder Scott Thompson appears certain to return home to South Australia to continue his career with either Port Adelaide or the Crows.

The off-contract 21-year-old was having his most successful season this year before fracturing his foot in round 13 and missing the second half of the year.

The Crows will attempt to get involved in a multi-club trade to secure Thompson, using Tyson Stenglein's proposed exchange to West Coast as the second part of the deal.

The Eagles would then have to satisfy Melbourne.

Without going down the "we want Judd" road, who/what would you consider as a fair trade from the Eagles?

I would hate to see Scotty go as i see him being the future of our midfield
but if i had to create a trade it would be as follows

Port Adelaide: Scott Thompson, Melbourne's 3rd Round Pick
West Coast: Tyson Stenglein, Port's Second Round Pick
Melbourne: Ashley Hansen, Andrew Embley/Beau Waters, West Coast's 3rd/4th Round Pick

i couldn't really think of a possible trade but this is what i came up with.
any thoughts?

There is an article on the age website, where Thompsons manager has said he wants to return home and is prepared go into the PSD.

I'm very very disappointed and hope its only a smokescreen for him to get a bigger contract. (which is disappointing in itself if he is doing that).

If we had to trade him, Adelaides 1st pick as a minimum would suffice. or a three way with WCE 1st pick to us and stenglein to wce.

Scott Thompson Is Staying Put!!

Melbourne Have Refused To Trade Him, Even Though The Eagles Offered Mcdouggall As A Possibility, Melbourne Still Refused, Its Over!!

My brother very very very (probably extremely doubtfulll...in fact i'd say never would EMBLEY get traded...(not havin a go at you mate....you just made a suggestion...dats cool)

Not just jumpin on the media's bandwagon ,but Wirra n Morro are the ones likely to be traded...(player wise) to try and nab Stinger....obviously traded to a melbourne club for a 3 or 4 way deal....

When Dan Chick wanted to come back to Perth a couple seasons ago, Hawthorn said straight away that draft picks wouldn't cut it........surprise surprise during trade week pick 10 (became 8) to hawthorn for Chick.....

As a youngster Scott Thompson was an avid Port Adelaide fan and dreamed of playing for the Power.

Thompson played with Port in the SANFL before being drafted by the Demons, but has no regrets about coming across the border.

“I’ve settled in well now,” Thompson told afl.com.au. “I’m a lot more comfortable around everyone. The club has been great from when I first moved over.

“I barracked for Port Power and I would have loved to have gone there, but you’ve got no choice. I hated the Crows and I wanted to thump them (in last year’s semi-final). Sitting in the stands watching was frustrating and I wanted to be out there.”

There are plenty of South Australians around the club to help make Thompson feel home. This year the SA contingent has grown by three with draftees, Daniel Bell (Glenelg), Nick Smith (Norwood) and Jared Rivers (North Adelaide).

“I’ve been looking after Nick and Jared as I live around the corner from them and get them to training occasionally,” Thompson said.

I would think that Scott would rather stay in melbourne than go to the crows, so a trade would have to involve port. I wouldnt expect any major developments until port finals involvement is over.

Neither "Wirra or Morro" are of any interest to us.

A very interesting trade. Although I do not see the Crows agreeing to trade Tyson Stenglien so Port Adelaide can get Scott Thompson for Ports 2nd round draft pick.

But the Power would be keen to swoop on Thompson as a ready-made replacement should Josh Carr return to Perth to play with Fremantle. The Dockers could offer the Demons their first-round national draft selection and promising youngster Ryley Dunn, who spent most of his first season at Fremantle on the sidelines because of injuries.

I don't know about anyone else, but I reckon this would be a great trade for us.

Thommo is good but he's not worth two Top 10 picks!

yes he is. because he has 4 years of danihers coaching under him. he knows how melbourne play. he knows our offence and knows our defence. he fits into the lineup perfectly and showed why he started the first 13 games in the middle. its not worth loosing a player who has cemented his spot and can build our midfield around him.

what about the trade that's being thrown around?

Melbourne - pick 12
Adelaide - Thompson
West Coast - Stenglien

would Melbourne be happy getting WC's first pick?

Not especially, no.

He was pick 15? odd in 2000 and has developed nicely, leaving a huge hole in our lineup if he was to leave. Pick 12 in a very weak draft isn't exactly what we'd be looking for.

And Crows get nothing for Stenglein?????

West Coast wouldn't go for that, that wouldn't benefit them at all. Losing a vic - captain, CHF and a 4th rounder (3rd rounder being used for father son) in order to get Stenglien and a second rounder? i rate Thompson, but getting that much in return for him is crazy. Adelaide would lose out most of all though. Nothing in return for Stenglien and Thompson going to Port! ;)

Err, doubt it.

Melbourne would take McDougall for Thommo anyday.

I really can see Salopek coming to Melbourne and Thompson joining Port.

melbourne cant get rid of thompson he is one of our best in n under midfielders

if you all think back 2 his great form before he injured his foot then consider whether u would mind him being traded

but then again, i'd rather get something for him then nothing and him go into the PSD like stevens

Spot on, you'll need to do better than pick 12. He developed into one of our key players in 04, we're loathed to lose him at all & certainly not for what we drafted him with.

I had a drink with his manager last night and he is going home. If need be intoi PSD and will price himself at a level to ensure he goes to the CROWS.

Melbourne will be forced to do a deal......with the CROWS holding all the cards.

i'd definatly take that deal broadbridge_20 but theres no chance of that

eagles are majotly getting ripped

also he isnt out #1 midfielder yet, Yze still has 2 hold that spot

also Green and Bruce have developed more
