Scott Thompson is our #1 midfielder. Either we get a good deal for him or he goes into the PSD.

Crows > Thompson,
Eagles > Stenglein, Lamb
Melbourne > Kerr

Close.

How about this:

Crows > Thompson
Eagles > Stenglein, Armstrong
Melbourne > Kerr

Thoughts?

I want us to keep Thomo and Armstrong but if they want out we shouldnt accept anything less than that.

I think it looks fair. Eagles fans won't like it. Adelaide are the big winners.

I would hate to see Scotty go as i see him being the future of our midfield
but if i had to create a trade it would be as follows

Port Adelaide: Scott Thompson, Melbourne's 3rd Round Pick
West Coast: Tyson Stenglein, Port's Second Round Pick
Melbourne: Ashley Hansen, Andrew Embley/Beau Waters, West Coast's 3rd/4th Round Pick

i couldn't really think of a possible trade but this is what i came up with.
any thoughts?

Hey, dont you mean Adelaide not Port Adelaide.

I had a drink with his manager last night and he is going home. If need be intoi PSD and will price himself at a level to ensure he goes to the CROWS.

Melbourne will be forced to do a deal......with the CROWS holding all the cards.
Pretty much what I have been hearing from the Adelaide side of things;)

Kerr > thompson and armstrong whether u like it or not

I don't think Thompson can afford to risk the PSD if he wants to return to SA, because he'd end up at Richmond or Hawthorn or maybe Bulldogs. I'm hoping to get a good deal for Thompson as both SA clubs will be working hard to get him.

PSD allows players to put a price on their heads.

So he could ask for a 1 year deal for 400K. Now he isn't worth that. But if his management group have already done a deal on the basis with the Crows then he will end up with the Crows. No one ie Richmond, Hawks Bulldogs or Pies will pick him based on that. If they did pick him up they would understand they are paying too much and would lose him in 12 months anyhow. PSD isn't the nightmare track that you hope it is. Melbourne are not holding the cards here. Scott Thompson and his management group are.

I think he wants to go home and play AFL. He will not care with which team. Most likely is the CROWS.

Have you ever heard of Nick Stevens? There are rules governing these things. Why do you think Lynch can't just retire and not face the Tribunal?
The PSD is the secondary draft. When you trade draft picks you are trading primarily for picks in the National Draft. That's why Stevens last year didn't get traded to Melbourne (ironically involving Thompson) because he said he didn't want to go there. Once in the PSD he had to go to whoever met his price.

Yeah that is correct. No one will pay 400K for him. That will see him past up on by all clubs except the Crows who can then do a deal over a longer period.

Melbourne will have one of the following players after the Thompson deal:

Steven Salopek
Brent Reilly
Ryley Dunn
Troy Chaplin
Robert Haddrill

At the moment it remains to be seen who.

Hopefully it's Salopek.

We could get Haddrill depending on how much West Coast want Stenglein.

Pick 12 no good, simply not worth it to us.

I think Ashley Hansen or Dunn and Freo's #1 pick are about all that would satisfy me.

disappointed...for what?

I think the trade teaser of Steven Salopek from Port Power for Scott Thompson is a good deal. But thats only my opinion about it...I'm not going to get into another long-winded discussion over it.

As for Adelaide? What have you got to offer? Seriously?

Brent (or is it Brett?) Rielly? I doubt you would wanna give him up?! But you have to be make a worthwhile deal.

Forget Kris Massie...

Look through the Adelaide player list and attempt to make a realistic deal..its not that easy is it? Adelaide have one of the oldest lists in the AFL..they have stars like Riccuito, McLeod, etc....but thats it.

Besides...the "meat market" aka trading period doesn't start for another week or so ...thats when we will all know a whole lot more. Perhaps even Scott Thompson may stay at Melbourne...he may change his mind? Who knows?

Scott has already moved back. This is over the line.

If Melbourne don't trade him they will lose him to the PDS. He will go to Adelaide. End of story. Melbourne do not hold the cards. They have nothing over him.....Remember Melbourne understand this and a deal will be done. If they don't deal he will get to the CROWS through the PSD. He will put a price on his head only they will be prepared to match. Remember he will want 400K for 12 months. Get picked by anyone other than the CROWS and there will be a SCOTT THOMPSON thread this time next year!

Pull your heads out of the sand!

Pull your own head out of the sand!

How do you know all this?

Just because he is moving back to Adelaide doesn't mean he'll end up at the Adelaide Crows.

He is just as likely to end up at the Port Adelaide Power.

I only hope that the MFC will try and get a fair deal..which ever SA club Scott Thompson is traded to.

Don't waste our time posting here and go back to your own Bulldogs board!

Personally, I fear you are right, Ipaidmy200in89...

It's the fact that he'll only sign a one-year contract unless it's with the Crows/Power that's important, no-one else in their right mind would pay him $400K for one year. Crows/Port would do it, then pay him $400K for the next two years.

I bet there will be a Scott Thompson thread this time next year, especially if he goes to Port and the Dees get Salopek - by all the Power fans saying about how much better he is than Salopek now

You can't handle the truth.

My head isn't in the sand and I apologise if I caused you offense

I know this because I have a source very close to his management group.

He may end up at Port if Melbourne are prepared to trade. I think he will certainly end up at the CROWS if Melbourne are not prepared to trade him.

I am trying to add to the discussion by telling you know that I am privy to. Sorry if you think that is wasting your time!

BTW you are most welcome to contribute to the Bulldog board I am aure!

AFC are confident of getting Thompson either via a trade or PSD. The Crows have the most cap room of any club (we are currently under the 92.5% minimum!), so we can afford Thompson to put a high price on his head. Just a question of whether the Dees want to do a deal prior to the PSD.

I responded to this thread earlier and for some reason it seems to have not gone through. If Adelaide was the only option for Thompson, then maybe he could afford to try his luck in the PSD. But there's also Port, Thommo's original club and his publically declared club of choice. I don't think Port will just lie down and let him get to Crows via the PSD. They have the "benefit" of the Nick Stevens experience behind them. To say that Thompson would put 400k on his head and thus get to Adelaide Crows in the PSD assumes many things:- a. That the clubs with earlier picks won't be prepared to pay the price. b. Adelaide would be prepared to pay that price. c. That their best laid plans won't go astray like Kangas plan to get Rawlings last year. (Remember Lachlan Veale was worth a No. 6 draft pick, and how many of you would have believed that last year?) d. That Thompson gets an offer out of left field from someone out of the blue (Sydney?) which happens. Adelaide got their fingers burnt with Carey and Burns and are rebuilding. I think if they want him it will be in the trading period. Just an opinion.

Port is still a possibility, but AFC have shown more interest to date. That may change if Carr heads back west.

a. Adelaide have more cap room than any other club, so if another club picks him prior to AFC, they will have to pay above the odds, only to lose him a year later.

b. Not an issue - refer to a. I reckon AFC & Thompson have already agreed to terms.

c. True, anything can happen, but your talking of trading as opposed to drafting.

d. Thompson won't accept a trade anywhere except to SA, so forget this scenario.

I'm sure AFC would prefer to get Thompson via a trade rather than the PSD, but we won't be paying above the odds given we are in a good bargaining position.

As a former SA person I hope you can get him, but I'd hope you'd trade for him rather than get him in the PSD. We gave you a fair deal for Vardy. Good luck.
