Oh yes we absolutely need a 29 year-old under-sized tall forward, with attitude problems so bad his club refused to give him two years despite kicking 49 goals.

Maybe he can slap Rebecca Twigley's backside with his jumper on snuff films?!?

He's 29 in 3 weeks. I don't know how soon we'll next threaten for a flag but at a guess he'd be at least 32 and past it.

If he stayed fit, he'd be very handy next year, no doubt, but we've gotta think premierships, not be Essendon.

Pass i say.

but in order to win that future premiership, we need our kids to develop and fulfill their potential. having experience around them can help that. lets not forget what happened to livingstone as a result of having nobody around him and he having to be our main defender. blokes like murph getting the number 1 tag after 12 odd games won't be good for their development. sometimes bringing in some experience, and limiting the amount of work the kids do, can be better for their development, and hence better our chances in the future. its not like welsh would be taking anybody's spot, or pushing a young kid back. he could simply replace the gap left by JK/Whitnall. worst that would happen would be that he would battle Hartlett for a spot, and competition for places is healthy

He's a good player. Marks well for his size. Great goal kicking abilitiy! I don't think he would necessarily push out any young player in our side, and if Fev went down, we'd need the depth. So yeah, let's make an offer... Nothing too outragous though. In fact, I can see Collingwood and Sydney offering more money. Let's just see how it unfolds...

A forward line consisting of Fev, Welsh, Fisher, Waite, Betts, Houlihan is tempting, and no doubt that Welsh would be a handy pickup (if we got him cheap). But there are a couple of issues at play here:

1) He's a leading forward type, and would have to adjust to not having that role anymore. If he gets in Fev's way, expect implosion.
2) He's been delisted from the crows for off-field reasons, their footy manager admitted today. How would we know this guy would get his head straight?

I don't get this:

ALl I ever read is how desperately we need back men. Further anyone who is mentioned in development is good forward, including jackson, edwards, gibbs, hartlett. We are having to move away from forward attacks which move away from goal (leads) and move towards attacks which are towards goal, as in kicking from the fifty. This requires players like Judd, stevens, murphy, gibbs, walker, etc kicking gaols on the move from fifty.

I think we need some solid hands down back before we worry about shakie old DT's up front.

Yes he is over 24!! Unfortunately.

He would need to be a consideration if available in the PSD.

Even though we have Fev, he would be good on the HFF and as a backup. Sould get a few good years out of him while other players develop. He also has the abililty to kick bags.

Thoughts?

Some Carlton supporters on this board have no idea about football

Stupid thread, PLEASE

Sticks is right ..

I think his off-field issues/probs are too much baggage for the club, and we've done a great job in the last few years weeding out the arseholes from the club, and we just need good stable solid citizens playing for the club ...

damn straight. Exactly why I doubt we'd look at Cousins, even he is available.

No we just want an entire team of forwards and hope the ball never gets down back! And don't hold your breath expecting players everyone would like to see up forward there next year!

I rkn he'd be a good pickup for the Dogs. Interesting to note that tigers, blues and demons all will probably pass on him. at this stage when he's easily the best available, i wonder who all 3 clubs have in mind...

No thanks.

Good player, but to put it simply, he's not what we need at all.

More than happy with our forward line as is, even though we do need to draft another tall forward to cover the losses of Kennedy and Whitnall. Welsh isn't a tall forward, so we don't need him.

If we were to draft him, he'd only be taking the place of someone coming through like Edwards, which is definitely not what we should be doing.

Would be a very good pick up for us if we were topping up our list for a flag, which we aren't doing at this stage.

I think you can pretty much count Collingwood out of picking up Welsh. We only have 2 live picks in the draft as it is (Barham will be taken with our last pick through f/s).

The thread was in 2006 when he was a year younger and our team was a lot more fragile. The goals he kicked last year at the crows would have been pretty handy. I personally would not agree in taking him this year.

In terms of your footy nouse I have seen the countless brainless threads you have started. ' who should get at pick 36?', who should be get at pick 52', ect, ect. I dont even need to go back and look at this threads to know that you speak utter garbage.
