If that ever happened I'd leave Australia. One of the more stupid things I've heard from a CEO.
I listened to him on ABC radio last night. If he he is amongst the cream of Australian CEO's nothing can save us. His argument was wafer thin and he was equally dull in presenting it.

He did possess a deathly dose of entitlement which is hardly surprising I guess.

I have private health and have had it for years. When I moved from WA to Vic my premiums went up by about 20-30% as I was told that Victoria was an older higher risk area and my premiums would have to reflect this. I asked why was I deemed a higher risk in Vic, the comment was they don't individually assess me, they collectively insure. About 4-5 years later after my premiums had gone up by the standard 5-10% each year without a claim, I made a single claim on my private health for glasses. The result was the next year my premiums went up by 19% and I was told that I'd been assessed as a higher health risk and my individual premiums would now have to reflect this.
The Howard govt gave them a huge free kick, but failed absolutely to impose reforms in return. They are are one of those industries which escapes scrutiny. on an on going basis

Yes there are issues with private health insurance. And most of those relate to the free kicks they get every year to raise fees. Declining membership hurts his bottom line.

Exactly, he doesn't give a fu** about the health of Australians. He's only interested in his bottom line and the return that shareholders get.

Exemplary rent-seeking from an industry built on it.

I maintain my private cover because the high-index lenses I need to stop my glasses looking like jam jars are considered an unnecessary luxury under Medicare; the private contribution is the only way to keep the cost to a manageable level.

But other than incredibly specialised cases like mine, Insurers offer nothing to attract healthy young people and, instead of innovating, sticks its hand out.

A thought bubble by the head of NIB suggesting the government scrap the medicare system and then make private health insurance compulsory for all Australians.

Why doesn’t the slack sh*t look at doing something useful for the health system
Maybe allow claims for attending a private ED or outpatient appointments with specialists to meet the current gaps?

I just had a shoulder reco 2 months ago. I've got private so the turnaround from assessment to surgery was fairly quick and only delayed by the finish date of my work project. What's likely to happen next year with regards to what I pay and what would happen if I was in the public system?

If you were in the public system you’d still be waiting for it.

How not to read the room.

It will be used as an example in the future in leadership training and seminars of what not to say.
Will it?

CEO's seen the Liberal Government avoid any consequences for saying and doing dumb sh*t for 6 years and figured he may as well give it a crack too.

Three terms of the hard right alters what normal is.
