Scrap the salary cap

Hi i just found this page and i can't believe the crap that essendon supporter wrote about Carlton being salary cap cheats.We may have got caught on some technicality,but don't forget we didn't win a premiership that year but when essendon got caught they stole the premiership.If they were in the olympic games and won gold and then found cheating the medal would be striped of them.So count yourself lucky you essendon cheats.
I think it's about time the AFL scraped the salary cap and draft system and let the strong survive.I'm sick and tired of clubs crying,if you can't compete then go join the vfl you whingers.

Not bad for a first post. You might like to ask yourself how the AFL would look without Melbourne, Hawthorn, North, Footscray, Geelong, Richmond & St Kilda.
It's a fair bet that without a salary cap these clubs would all go under eventually. So how does a 9 team AFL look to you now ?
Of course, the "football public" numbers would decline so much that the advertisers would then be reluctant to buy advertising time to appeal to such a small market. The income stream of the remaining clubs is then depleted, and a downward spiral begins.
Why is it that such short sighted views always emanate from Carlton, Collingwood & Essendon supporters ? (and some of their presidents)

welcome aboard carl elliott yeah thats a great idea why not get rid of the salary cap and draft just dont comeback in here whinning that carlton has just folded a/c kouta,silvani,bradley,allen have all just asked for 1 million a year and u lose all those players to the richer interstate clubs.2yrs down the track jack elliot stands up in front of a hostile blues crowd after their 2 successive wooden spoon and announces due to lack of the coroprate dollar carlton is to fold and join the vfl.

Next time you post make sure you know what your talking about.
Take away the salary cap and the fact that there is 10 vic teams means that every one of them would suffer as a result.Including carlton and Essendon, while the other 6 non vic teams would do well.Especially sydney because of the huge potential supporter base=Huge potential revenue=Ability to poach top players and keep them

I have already defended the Blues recent breaches in another thread as much as I care to do for the time being. I have a fairly open mind on the subject of salary cap and draft as I am not armed with enough facts to be committed. I know that free spending is the bane of all sporting organisations. The NRL is suffering for it. The NBA has suffered for it and American Baseball can't go more than a couple of seasons without some sort of player strike and owners backlash over the escalating costs.

I don't know whether the draft is a restraint of trade or not but as long as teams can continue to trade draft picks for the player of their choice then the system is workable. The NRL do not have a draft and the competition seems to work well. Remember, it was the salary cap being loosened by a few hundred percent that has undone League.

So, salary cap - good. Draft - Okay, could be better.
