Surely you simply bid for each pick, such as any other trade, the scenario you are suggesting is ridiculous
That's pretty much the impression this article gives.

"It's important to note that the 17 other clubs won't be negotiating for a particular player. They will be negotiating for the first of those four choices, then the second and down the line until the fourth."

The most likely scenario will see GWS auction off two picks to the highest bidders this year and then repeat the process next year in order to maximise their return.

However, if interest in this year's crop of players born in the eligibility window creates a bidding war, then the Giants can conceivably move on all four picks, which the successful clubs can then use on the player of their choice if he's still available.

So even if we are say interested in Crouch and willing to put forward a bid which we think is reasonable for the 2nd pick (as a hypothetical based on our estimate of the market) we would be derelict not to push for the 1st pick with the same offer - there is nothing to lose as far as I can tell in case we have undersold our offer.

I'm not entirely sure how it will play out but it looks like there could be a cascading effect from the 1st pick bidding. Once that is gone, unlucky bids may be rebidded (in same form or modified slightly) for the 2nd pick and so on so even if we have what we think is a reasonable bid for the 2nd pick we may have stiff opposition.

True, the only problem with hanging onto these picks is that if we improve a bit next year they devalue.

Next year GWS won't get a ****load of picks. We would need to improve by about 7+ spots for our picks to be worse next year. Even then, next year's draft is going to be stronger apparently.

If we can get a Jaeger or Gaff with the picks, I say we trade them. If not, try our hand in the draft.

Can tell you from Spirit and I speaking to someone at last nights B&F, that the Compo picks may not be used at all this year as the nxt years draft will be better. However saying that. Omearas name did come up as a potential in the discussions.

I have a bit of paper next to my desk and every time you mention this kid i draw a line on it

I'm going to need a new bit of paper soon. . .

As disturbing as your obsession with me is, I doubt I have in fact reached such impressive numbers. If you've seen him play even once, you'll find I'm completely justified in wanting this kid at Melbourne next year, given we've just lost a very similar player in Scully.

I am obsessed with your obsession with him.

I feel that its very risky trading an arm and a leg for a 16 year old kid full of potential. Which we may not even get to see as his desire to stay in Perth is well known.

Imagine if we got another Tom Swift or Tom Hawkins :o

Is there anything official that actually confirms said desire?

And wouldn't you like to see the MFC take a risk for once, on something that could land us a flag? Given we have these two compensation picks at our disposal, we should throw them at getting the best possible replacement for Scully.

Which, amongst undrafted players, is Jaeger, without a doubt. We could also aim for players such as Lachie Whitfield, Brad Crouch, etc, but it's more likely that we could draft O'Meara if we chuck in the two picks and something else. And this kid is tracking as well as Scully, Swallow, Trengove, Coniglio, etc were at the same age. Just as fast/fit and as good a clearance player as Scully, only a better kick too. Kicked 4 goals plus picked up 15 disposals in his WAFL debut as a 16 year old.

At any rate I know for a fact that we are going to bid for Pick 1 in the GWS mini-draft with the intention of selecting Jaeger. I'll be happy with Pick 2 also, if we score Crouch or Dayle Garlett.

Who are you talking about Gazza??

Jaeger O'Meara.

I really want a username change, that does not feel right for me at all anymore haha. Was a silly nickname that my hockey teammates used to use.

Thanks for taking the bait. :D

BS please pencil in another 4 mentions. :thumbsu:

Lets be honest, you don't know for a fact.

You are just hopeful that we'll land him.

For what its worth i agree with you and feel we should go him but not to put all our eggs in one basket like you suggest.

Maybe if you say his name enough in succession he will magically appear. . . just another thought :thumbsu::thumbsu:

No I do know it for a fact. But then again even if I didn't, I would assume and strongly hope that we had the sense to at least play our hand in this bidding system, even if we weren't to select Jaeger. That's what it's there for.

And I've never suggested that we 'put all our eggs in one basket'. Simply that if it were up to me, he'd be priority number 1 as we definitely need a replacement for Scully that can become a midfielder in the Ablett/Judd mould.

So hence it makes sense for me to talk him up in this thread, having seen him play during the championships.

hahaha - well played Syrus.

Poor Gazza 11. For what its worth Gazza - I agree we should have a crack at Jaeger. But if we cant land him with our 2 picks, then we should just use them imo.

Crouch is meant to be an absolute beast as well, the Kid from North Ballarat, HBF/MID is talked about in the same sentences as O'meara is from Vic and would come slightly cheaper

How does a 17yo kid know for a fact that we will be throwing everything at him?

Its not that i don't trust you. . . Its just that i don't trust you.

I'm 16. And I do, but either way what we say on here doesn't change things.

I'd be very happy with Crouch too. We really just need a player to play the Scully type role for us because apart from Sylvia and maybe Jetta I don't see anyone else whose best game is suited for that.

Must admit I don't know as much about Crouch - but I've heard a heap about OMeara. If we want Crouch then fine, but we'd want to be certain he's worth it given we could otherwise have 2 x top 10 picks in a big draft..

Well Gazz I must admit he looks pretty good.

He moves really well in traffic and seems to have pretty good pace. He's a lot bigger than $cully too.

I'd be happy if the club wanted to trade both compo picks to get him. Hell i"d be happy if we threw in P12 this year and tried to get Crouch as well.
