LEADING sports medico Dr Peter Larkins has warned Greater Western Sydney's $6 million investment in Tom Scully is an "enormous gamble".

Larkins is adamant Scully's knee issue will significantly affect his chances of playing a full season in any of the next six years.

"I'd be really surprised if he was able to put out 20 games a season for six seasons in a row for that club," Larkins said. "I can't see 120 games over six years, based on the fact he played 10 out of 22 this year." ...

"It's turned out the original injury, which has resulted in some bone being removed from his kneecap, has changed the shape of his knee," Larkins said.

"He now has an issue ... as he gets stronger and bigger he can only put more stress on the knee."

"As you get older, knee injuries only get worse ... they don't get better."

Trade them back to GWS for Jagear O'meara. Essentially trading our Tom Scully for the O'meara. Sounds totally fair doesn't it... Won't be enough though, the rules have handed Gws all the power involved with 17yo trades.

What players can we throw up with our picks?

Bate, Maric, Warnock?
Lynden Dunn, Matthew Bate, Jared Rivers, Matthew Warnock, There really the only big bodied players i could see us putting on the table, we dont have the players to work with but we do have the draft picks, and GWS could always on trade our picks for better players.

Hasn't he/his management said that he wants to remain in WA?

Unless Melbourne can package 2 picks + whatever for a top flight key position forward prospect (using our third first-rounder on the best mid) I have no problem holding off until next year.

This O'Meara guy already sounds overrated.

People are saying only two first rounders and a top flight kid will get it done.

What a joke, theres no way hes that good.

So what ? It's a national competition, he's entered a 'draft' and he'll go to whomever selects him.

That said, I understand your concern and there's no doubt that the 'go home' factor is considered by clubs. I'd take the punt and definitely try and recruit him. Sometimes you have to back your club in. It's still pretty rare for quality players to leave a club that has fostered them.

I'm pretty confident that in 3 years time, which is when he'd be coming out of contract, that we'll be an exciting team. Not many players would want to leave a club on the cusp of success.

If he was that disinterested with leaving his state he wouldnt nominate for the mini draft, anyways, if the worse case scenario happened and he wanted out, would could atleast negotiate a deal.

What's with 1980 something children saying "anyways" instead of "anyway" ?

I appreciate that you've grown up watching copious amounts of American television, but it's inane and you'd do well to desist. Otherwise well educated people will think poorly of you.

No need to thank me.

Why Dees can gain from pain

Gold Coast, incidentally, is willing to give up pick No. 4 in this year's draft for O'Meara, a bid that Melbourne may or may not be willing to better.

We'll have our work cut out if we want to go down this road by the sound of things but there will be a lot of mindgames leading up to trading in any case.

You assume im from that era.

That would be the mindset of 1970 something children.

I think Premierships are won by teams with 22 great players, not teams with 3 or 4 stars and a bunch of chaff.

I don't want to trade everything away for one gun. I want them to use the picks to get 3 reliable, consistent performers that do their job week in week out.

Let's get three Joel Corey's, not one guy that *might* be Dane Swan.

I wouldn't be down for trading away more than 1 pick this year. Throw in some players, decent players to if we think O'Meara is worth it, but not both picks

If next years draft is looking really strong we should activate a pick for that, plus Viney, then we've got a good bunch of young guys pushing for selection when we should be really hitting our straps as far as finals appearances, etc

There will be a chance Viney will cost one of those picks anyway. Will be interesting to see how u guys play this.

Yes but we'll have the other pick that earn for finishing wherever next year, so if we use one of the picks we'll have 2, 1 of which will be Viney

doubt we would trade with greater western shit

Why not? The only people we would hurt is ourselves if we missed a chance to boost our playing list because of hurt feelings. At some point the boot will be on the other foot when they have homesick players and we'll even the ledger.

I can see this happening if Gaff wants to leave, involving H.Bennell and our 2 picks.

Two compo picks to GC/GWS

Gaff to Melbourne

H Bennell/O'Meara to West Coast

We could just as easily do a two way trade of the two picks for Bennell or O'Meara but this eliminates the 'go home' factor that so many are worried about.

I doubt we would want Bennell and i doubt Bennell would want to live in Victoria.

The 3way deals have merit, but only if rumors are true and Gaff want to go home.

My main concern with the 2012 superdraft is that everybody is gonna want in on this behemoth. The value of your picks will be determined by ladder position and the clubs below you who have such picks.... GWS, GC cough

So alot of teams may end up falling far down in terms of pick choice due to so many compensation picks being used before them,

In essence turning 2012 into another compromised draft, is it worth having 2 extra picks around 18 in this draft after GC and GWS are don pillaging again?

How deep is it? i dont know many drafts where picks around 20 are so deep its generally the top quality which is amazing running slightly deeper

No, wouldnt give up two picks for Gaff, One and say a Jamie Bennel or Addam Maric.
