I'd say Gippsland or Melbourne itself for that matter

have you been to melbourne?

and no, i don't just mean the city

plus melbourne was voted 3rd most livable city in the world last year

Yes but people also vote for the greens so that should tell you something, as for being a yuppy how old school is that, 1980 here we come. I'm not going to put up with people putting crap on WEST Sydney, because they may or more likely not sign one of your players.

west sydney has very little attraction, it would be like living in a fitzroy or a clayton or a footscray in melbourne

melbourne has those suburbs as well, but the majority of it is good brah

better than sydney for sure

i'm sure you are aware of the numerous reasons there are to vote for the greens, if not then i won't indulge you by stating them... (i'm not a greens voter btw)

Should point out that Fitzroy is one of the best suburbs in Melbourne. Would give an arm and a leg to live there. I'd liken Western Sydney to Broadmeadows or Dandenong. Ethnic junkyard full of gangs.

hmm i didn't think western sydney was that bad, i had an unpleasant experience in fitzroy... which probably swayed my thinking... it was at night though

Fitzroy used to be the biggest dump in Melbourne and it was very rough in the old days. Nowadays it has been gentrified and the cost of a homes there is over the top, mainly because it's so close to the city.

Up near the Commission flats is another thing though, that's a pretty ordinary part of the suburb.

I had a few guys come down to Melbourne from Sydney and we showed them around Broadmeadows and the surrounding suburbs. They almost instantly compared it to Bankstown and GWS. Was actually really funny. I can't imagine a lad like Scully wanting to live in such an area.

ROB48 is right. Fitzroy is now a very gentrified suburb and the only trouble you might find is near the flats on Brunswick and Johnston Streets.

yes well the incident did occur on brunswick street haha, but yeah i have been to broadmeadows.. mainly to play cricket, but i certainly would not want to live in that kind of area

Just because he might play for Western Sydney, doesn't mean he has to live out there. If he signs up for $850,000 a year, I'm sure he can buy on the other side of town and commute to training etc.

The more i hear about Tom's personality, the more i think he will choose to stay with us. I just can't fathom a club losing a number 1 draft pick less than 2 years after recruiting him. I just cannot see it happening.

Maguire just went nuts on Triple M this morning , in relation to a system that allows GWS to pinch a young man from a developing club. He wasn't so much concerned about the Abletts, Swans etc. It was the Scullies, Mitch Clarks, Martyns etc.

He was pretty adamant that yesterday Scully signed with GWS with a front loaded contract for around 3 million dollars for his first year. He wanted to know how a young 19 year old man was supposed to be able to turn money like that down and suggested no young man should have to nor should they be put in that position. let alone clubs who have only got access to these players in the first place because of performing poorly on the field having their 5 year plans ripped out from underneath them.

Eddie rarely opens his mouth on a story like that and is wrong, I hope that he has his wires crossed and it's not true.

As do I.

It's hard to believe that its only Febuary and this is going to go on for months. I wonder how the increasing speculation will affect Tom and the team?

Over the past year or so despite the odd injury and Jimmy's battles with health the club has been more or less a happy place, this issue however has the potential to uproot all of that.

There is absolutely nothing we (Melbourne members/supporters) can do to in relation to Scully re-signing with us or defecting to GWS. All we can hope is that Scully is the upstanding young man that has been widely reported and he eventually puts pen to paper and signs a lengthy contract with the MFC.

I'm sure that Jimmy, Schwabby and the rest of the board are working overtime to ensure that an elite talent like Scully doesn't just walk out the door.

Countless forests are going to be felled & be used on this topic before we have a decision but I have faith that Scully will re-sign but I don't think it will be anytime soon.

All this speculation can only hurt the club and the quicker it’s resolved the better; the club should bring it to a head and insist that Scully's management start talks or they will take it a sign he is leaving. If he is going then so be it, we have to accept that, but the last thing we need is to have a cancerous situation develop like it did at Geelong last year. I believe that cost Geelong a place in the Grand Final last year, maybe not a flag but the possibility of one.

If the club put their best offer to Tom and his management rejects it then he can spend the rest of the year at Casey training and playing with them. If we have to put up with this for the rest of the season then you can kiss it goodbye.

If Tom doesn't want to be part of our future then there is no reason why we should continue to invest anymore time in him, if he does he should start to negotiate so we can give him the best deal possible.

agree wholeheartedly rob48.... and the thing is, we will still get another greatly talented young mid in jack viney as of 2012, i don't think it will be the tragedy it is being made out to be

that said tom is an absolute gun, and i hope he stays with us for years to come

I spoke to a club official this morning and he said Cam's confident that Tom will re-sign but I don’t share his confidence, the amount of money spoken about, if it’s true, is just too much IMO.

We just have to put this to bed one way or another, and if Tom has any consideration for the club he should just tell him manager to start talks before it destroys our season. Surely he can see what the fallout is at the moment and surely he’s smart enough to know it will only get worse.

We've been torn apart by these protracted negotiations over the last few years with Flash, Greeny, Bruce and several others before that, so we don't need any more.

How is this not affecting Scully?

How much more speculation can he take before he either bites the bullet and informs his management that he wants the deal done now? (the offer I'm sure has been there for a long time). Otherwise, we have to consider that the only reason we're 'waiting for the season's end' is for the same reason Ablett, Brown, Harbrow and co. said the same things.

If he moves...all hell might just break loose.

NO, it is a tragedy. Tom will most likely be one of the top10 players in the comp in the next few years

yes, probably

but we can't think that one player will grant our team success, we still have a lot of talent on our list

dangerous thinking to have around the club imo

I think I look at it differently.

Do you think he would leave after seeing what Jim has done for the club and always has talked up Scul's, the same for Garry Lyon - Although money talks having greats like that in the public supporting you would make it hard to leave.

Didnt the same thing happen with Dustin Martin last year? wasnt it $850K per season he knocked it back and said he wanted to stay at Richmond - Would Scul's want to be know as the type of person to leave purely for money? He knows staying with a club will bring rewards after footy.

All the other high quality recruits from the last two years have all resigned with the clubs that have recruited them (if they were any good).

I would think in the background the AFL wouldnt like to see this happen, they may tell Sheeds to make noise about it to distract from other players they may want to target, what are the other players names going around? IMO this would be help them get the other people why speculation about Scul's is going on.

Last point : We have no control over his decision we can only support him when he plays (hopefully well) and if he leaves well the sun will come up the next day and will give someone else the opportunity to step in..

the balls hin his hands lets leave it there...

None right at the start of the season. At least we know Viney Jnr is on the way.

Im sick of hearing eddie talk about tom scully. it makes me feel really un easy when another clubs president takes such an intrest in one of our players. whats his link to scully? recalling the situation when eddie was trying to organise a date for jesinta campbell and tom to the brownlow. keep your greedy hands away from tom scully Eddie
