I have seen nothing but crap umpiring this year, inconsistent, inconsistent, inconsistent. And just to clarify, I'm not talking about Magpie games. Is it worth writing to the AFL? I truly think they need to set up an umpire review committe which actually gives the umpires some guidance as to what the AFL want from week to week and year to year. This needs to be monitored to ensure that the feedback is consistent and complied with on the field. It shouldn't see umpires censured or punished but should provide a method of addressing flaws in the current system.They are obviously confused and the fans are frustrated and it is because management can't make up their minds and too many ex players, who are part of the various BS 'committee's', want to get their fat, intellectually muddled fingers in the rules/umpiring pie. The AFL ignore these 'committee's' when it suits them anyway. I'am still totally bemused as to what the 'hands in the back' was/is for. Every second time I think it should be paid it isn't and when it shouldn't be, it is. Yep, I know the umps are blindsided, etc but last time I checked that was why they brought in 2 field umpires. Maybe they need 3; forwards, center, backs who have some 'gucci' coms system and can provide feedback. I mean Barry Hall gave another player a cheap gut shot the other night and hasn't even been looked at as far as I'm aware (do I stand corrected?). Is the running over the mark still a 50 metre penalty because I'm sure a Port player ran over the mark and no 50 was payed. These are basic and frustrating mistakes that are accentuated as the interpretation seems to change from week to week. I can't believe that Andrew Demetriou is on a 1 mil package, good buisness manager knows crap all about footy. Look at the whole the Swans are ugly thing, I bet their fans don't care that someone will find a cure for cancer in the time it takes them to kick a goal, they won a premiership. Stop hoping it will go away and sort it AFL, that and the drugs/thugs factor is really killing the game for us family followers. Already posted this on 'Rocca is free', sorry hadn't spotted this thread. Last week (Nth Melb game)I think frees against approached a record for all games, did it break 28? Apparently that is the record. And the poor old Roos got hammered because the ump couldn't count 50 meters properly. Maclaren has always been a little worm, if I could be bothered I would compile a data base of for and against for all his matches umpiring CFC. I have a feeling I know what it would show.
