I am echoing what many others have already said, but for me the only real thing lacking with Sean is belief that he belongs at the top level. He seems to have all the tools, yet never seemed to understand that. I gather he is extremely introverted off the field and plays that way on it too.

His last few games for the Swans were actually very good - the West Coast game after which he got dropped, and then also the few he played at the end of the year when he found his way back to the senior team. I thought maybe the penny had finally dropped with him but clearly Roos had run out of patience.

I really hope he goes on to have a solid AFL career and I am a little sad to see him go as I loved his booming kicks (and sentimentally because he was a FS pick).

I felt Sean Dempster lacked in confidence and never backed himself (I'm with Liz on this one). He never seemed to want to take risks and use that massive kick of his to his advantage. Its a shame he didn't have a consistent year with the Swans this year though I felt he was improving slowly. At times he is indecisive under pressure, but he can work on that, though his skills aren't that flash.

Wanted him to play more games for the Swans because he was part of the premeirship team. If Dempster backs himself and gains more confidence (I think the only way for him to improve is to play in the senior side - gains confidence that way works for him IMO), he'll have a successful career I think. A healthy 300+ games for him if all goes well.

Lol, sorry couldn't resist, but come on you guys took Hall and Lockett :D
that old chestnut
lockett wanted out of the spotlight, so was open to any offers to leave victoria, although yes, i know, c'wood had all but lured him (i think c'wood)
and hall? you blokes had given up on him, from what i understand....like you got rid of m lappin, j smith and p everitt .. allegedly all part of a culture the club wanted to change

if you want to bring that crap up go away
Relax it's all in good fun, I understand that Hall and Lockett would never have stayed at St.Kilda, those two were brilliant but didn't like the limelight, it was circumstances out of our control... just like what has been said of Schneider and Dempster, apparently St.Kilda had a lot of salary cap room due to retirements so that we could afford a few quality players, apparently Sydney were tight for room so Sydney offloaded two players who they didn't believe to be worth their price tag...

You really shouldn't take things so seriously...

I think with Dempster, this trade will affect him in either one of two ways.

Become very determined to prove Roos wrong and become the champion that his ability says he could be.
OR
His confidence be so completely shot that his indecisiveness and self doubt become even worse.

I hope for his sake that it's the first option as I think he has the tools, he just needs the belief.

That’s a very good call.

Dempster has appeared to lack the belief in himself at the swans, particularly the belief he can beat his opponent, when playing a defensive role man on man he always seemed slow to react to his opponent rather than read the play and while a wonderful disposal getting his hands on the footy often enough was another problem.

Perhaps a new coach and environment may be the tonic needs, good luck to him.

That would be great, I have a lot of confidence in Ross Lyon, he got a lot out of Fiora, Blake, Gilbert and a few others, while none of those players were superstars this year they all did quite a bit better than most people expected...
