Sad news, so much talent, still think he had potential to be on of the great full-forwards

I remember the 2007 elimination match against Sydney, anyone have highlights of that? He was on fire that night, best game of his career.

Really shit news.:( The first and only AFL player so far to come out of my school (4 years above me), and was always following his career closely. He looked like he was about to explode on the competition following his 2007 finals series, but I guess it is not to be.:( Even came back to watch the 1st 18's go around in Intercol (our GF type thing for school) when he could, and has a signed guernsey up in our sports centre to commemorate his debut.

Final series 2007, the kid nearly got us there
He kicked two very important goals in the 5 point 2007 Preliminary Final loss, so he nearly did!

It's too bad, but retiring is something he has considered doing a number of times since Round 1 of 2008 when he needed his second shoulder reconstruction. His left shoulder actually has a 'bone block,' a spur of bone at the front of the joint preventing it from dislocating, but it seems the other injuries he has received has been too much.
Wonder who'll be number 2 next year? Hopefully some young gun so I can keep the number on my back!
Maybe Marty Clarke can wear the number 2 jumper in 2011 considering that Darren Jolly wears his number 18 jumper now.

So much talent.

Can't fault the other main ingredient..that is dedication

Just shows you need luck as well, to bring it all together.

So sad for the Rus, Collingwood Footy Club, and all the fans

Well said.

What a tragic story, imagine what he could have been if he had never been injured.
Poor kid, he has to be strong willed and minded to have kept on training trying to get back.

Whatever he choses to do now, i hope he has unbelievable success:thumbsu:

Such a shame, thanks for always fronting up and fighting back from continual injury set backs ruzza.

Will never forget the effect your presence had on our forwardline in 2007.

Good luck as a horse trainer, hopefully they are all lighting quick like their trainer

I'm sorry, but he got drafted from us way too early. He was what, 17, 18 when he was drafted after playing one reserves game for us to just be elgible. I seriously don't think his body was up to AFL level at such a young age.

A damn shame though, he could have gone far. It's too bad that he's fallen into the soft tissue injury category like others from West Adelaide (both Adam and Hamish Hartlett fall under this category).

Wouldn't mind him giving us a run next year however ;)

His body was more than fine to tolerate AFL level footy, he just got an unlucky run. I can't remember him having any significant problems with his shoulder pre AFL either.

Not surprising to hear, half expected it, just has never been able to get any sort of continuity in his game which is a real shame as any pies supporter you speak to always thought highly of him. It is quite sad really.

I guess it is bound to happen though, he did spend all his time away from football walking under ladders and breaking mirrors.

Well said. So sad for the guy. Had so much going for him and could have been a great part of the current team.

Right decision made and if he didn't make it I think the club might have for him.

When on the field really showed a fair bit and it is a real shame his career was hurt by injuries in the way it was because he could have been a 100+ gamer had injuries not had the effect on him that they did.

i think he has made the correct decision. i can only imagine how much it would suck to keep going through all that pain and rehabilitation whilst seeing all your mates playing footy and every year theres a new crop slotting right in. very depressing you'd think. i never lost faith that maybe one day he would come back into the team, it would have been a fairy tale story but oh well. all the best ruzz.

More so the big change in quality between U/18's/1 ressies match and training once a week to going to an elite team and training 2-3 times a week. Would put massive strain on a young body still developing, obviously it's not known at the time how they'll cope, so more than likely t was just bad luck.

A lot of people attribute it to the heavy weights regime he was on at a young age for athletics.

Poor bloke, deserved better luck than what he got. I really thought he was a shot of making it back after seeing him play his return game at Geelong, he looked awesome.

:(

agree, thought some of his work during that game was very good. obviously suffered further injury though. very sad.

:( i'm shattered for the kid, so many injuries so many surgeries so much rehab....not fair, he showed so much in so few games,,,,I wish him all the best but I still feel like crap:thumbsdown:
