As the old saying goes "Money talks and bullsh!t walks", that's the reason why we lost, nothing more, nothing less, and that was the reason why Atlanta won the 1996 Olympics and not Athens & Melbourne, because we were simply out played, we were the pawn and Qatar was the king.
So how did we win the 2000 Olympics - or was that miraculously the only 'clean' selection in the last 30 years?

Fact is, we got out-bribed - OK, suck it up, we need more millionaires on the bid team next time - maybe the Ruling Ranga could make it a new mining tax.

The Qataris have enough money to host the Winter Olympics if they wanted to.

If you want to know the truth as to how the Atlanta Olympics were won, read the books by Andrew Jennings, because the similarities between Qatar & Atlanta 1996 are too big to ignore, and the fact that both events were won purely on commercial (re Bribery) terms, rather than sporting.

Personally, we should've gone private, because having tax payer money to win events is only good when you win, but it becomes a millstone around your neck when you don't.

And another thing, if Sydney 2000 acted the same way that Atlanta did, they would have been all exposed by now, and I'm not naive enough to think that there wasn't a certain level of horse trading by Sydney 2000, but when it compares to Atlanta & Qatar (which will be exposed, you can write it down), we can at least be proud of the fact that we didn't sink that low, because events that are born out of corruption, horse trading, back stabbing and greed rarely turn out great (just look at Atlanta 1996).

Perhaps we are just naive to think that this would ever be decided on merit and not politics?

Obviously Bin Whatisface read the situation better than us, he knew Japan and South Korea would be desperate to "save face" by not being eliminated in the first round, and offered them a deal. It seems we just assumed they would be knocked out in the early stages and were chasing people's second and third round votes.

Tend to agree,

but, isn't the next 'opportunity' going to be 2034. i.e. the new pseudo rotation is that a host confed can't bid in the next 2, so, Europe can't go again until 2030, and 'Asia' until 2034. Thus meaning, the 2026 will be between what's left,.....Africa and America's.

Do you reckon FIFA might just kill off the 'rotation' thing!!!
The next 2 confederation thing was scrapped following the rotation policy scrapping. The only reason it applied for 2018/2022 (CAF / CONEMBOL were barred) was because each of those confederation were guaranteed a WC in 2010 & 2014.

It will go back to as previously where one confederation may not host two times in a row.

I think England will get 2026 now, 2030 will be a Argentina / Uruguay centenary WC.

Our next crack will be at 2034 probably against the US and East Asian nations again.

The middle east probably as a region like soccer heaps more, well they were nuts in Egypt and Jordan about it
I blame the AFL. Lets face it our great game is a blight on humanity and the administrators the embodiment of all thats evil. Heck whats to bet that Vlad was actually lobying for Quatar and giving Blatter "adivce" :D

While Qatari's are renowned for their sporting passion?
Just having a look around and found in the 2009 Asian Champions League Qatar's representatives got average attendances that make the A-league look successful. Al-Gharafa, the league champs from the previous season average 750 over two home group matches and Umm Salal fared slightly better with 4,468 over 5 home games.
