Season 1 - What did we like and not like

Hi All,

With season 1 in the books, I have immediately started looking forward to a potential season 2.

But I would very much like feedback from anyone that wants to offer it on how the league went.

Please note this is not an exhaustive list of questions, if you have a view on something else please let me know. Even if it's me, I dont bite. 😂

Is 6 teams the right number?
Is a 5 day format working?
Does the match posting format (time, structure) work?
Is the turnaround between games to short?
Are the rules ok? (A/R minimum, other line up tweaks?)

re the number of teams, I think it worked pretty well with about 13 or 14 player squads. I think team numbers should be driven by interest at the time. If more people want to hop on board, then more teams. If interest seems to be less strong, there can be a cut.

Note that two(?) players signed up even knowing they were too late for this season's competition.

Sim doesn’t have instances of a ball going for two runs off the bat. Was a bit anticlimactic the last couple of games running into the qooty season.

I think teams should field at least four players who can bowl - and batsmen shouldn’t be allowed to be out on 99 (for you dogs105 )

More flexibility in player positions like in qooty. That could keep players engaged if they're not doing so well and give teams for flexibility.
Its not as simple as Qooty swaps mate. Each player gets allocated points and form carries over.

The points would have to be changed when they switched positions and who knows what it'd do to form.

Hmmm. So theoretically players outside the starting 11 of game 1 don't need a position and could be allocated one as per team needs on their first game? Not sure it matters a heap as the starting 11s won't change a lot but just hypothesizing.

Did not like - allrounders are rubbish and are a handicap for their team.

Did not like - no in-game fitness penalty incentivises teams to play the bare minimum number of bowlers and to stack the batting.

Did not like - the season went too late in the SFA offseason. I'd prefer for this to start during SFA finals and to be finished before Round 1.

Liked - the pacing of the sim posting and the fun commentary.

Squads should be no more than 14 players.

Overall a good start.

1. I did warn those choosing A/R they're rubbish. 😂
2. No comment. ;) But we also didn't win the flag.
3. Agree, Christmas and me stepping in so late cooked it.

This A/R was his team’s top wicket taker :)
Is there such a thing as home ground advantage in the sim?

Thank you anyway boncer34 for your efforts getting the qricket season going, despite a couple of gripes it was really fun. Almost deserved the cheat flag ;)

Ljp86 had some good ideas regarding some stuff if he wants to drop them in here as well

Thanks, tgrs. A bit of a late reply, but I'll include my thoughts below.

Positives
  • Great to have fantasy cricket back and be able to play in a competition again. As a long-time player in the former BFFCL, it was nice to see some former players participating again but also many new players, too.
  • Games were played in a good natured and friendly manner. Every team was generally great to play against.
  • The ability to introduce some strategy into games with pitch types and player types gives teams a bit more control over what they do which many of us who have played the game before will know, but it adds an element to the game we don't see in the SFA.
  • The season I thought was moderately successful with reasonable engagement and enough interest to warrant further seasons.

Improvements
  • Staggered deadlines for team selection should be strongly recommended for introduction for season two. Home teams should have to name their side and pitch first with the away team given an additional 24 hours to name their side, given they have no control over the pitch type. This makes things even from a selection perspective as all sides know the pitch conditions prior to the game and can strategise accordingly.
  • A minimum of four bowling options per side, including one all-rounder. I know boncer34 used the three bowling players team selection to his advantage, and while it was legal, it's perhaps not the most realistic in terms of the game.
  • A one-day competition for next season. 50 overs per side using the same simulator would be great although there are other simulators available which facilitate 20 over matches. A one-day competition of some sort is necessary though in my opinion.
  • I did mention above the season was successful but it could use a bit more activity. Certainly something to work on for the coming season.

Strategy
  • The thing I'm most interested in is where does this competition sit in terms of the entire Sweet concept. The season we contested was short and sharp in order to move back to the SFA when that starts up again in late January/early February as it always does. But for me, where does that leave the SCA? Playing this competition only in the gaps between SFA seasons isn't feasible as there are only two per calendar year at this stage, with one of those traditionally taken up with the State of Origin concept. We can't have a competition that only runs for a few weeks per year, as that's not enough to build a sustainable competition and also does the game a disservice in my opinion. Running the competition for most of the year is an option but risks the cannibalisation of the SFA with posters moving between the two, so there are certainly some interesting discussions to take place going forward with regards to the SCA from my point of view.
  • Continuing on from above, the SCA should look to recruit more cricket based posters to the competition and diversify things a bit from an activity perspective while also looking to get players from outside the Sweet world, so to speak. Certainly not an easy task to execute but would ensure the competition remains viable for the future.

Just a few quick points

1. Stacking a team with Batters and few bowlers is ok for Limited over games especially 20/20. but for 4 or 5 day matches bowling so many overs is very tiring and really not realistic. if we keeping with longer game need to change the team selection to include bowlers.
2. yes the fact that so many in Sweet Cricket are also in Sweet Footy will hold back Cricket from development . Would need the influencers to use their power to get more Cricket lovers to the game. MAybe hard on a website called Big FOOTY LOL. but i am sure the influencers are capable.

I wasnt a top contributtort sadly but will try harder for next season
