Massive game this week at Mernda. Taking on the ferals up the road , in what surely is one of the greatest rivalries in local footy. History says it will be a cracker! Mernda past players day , so huge crowd expected.
Young , Hungary & desperate to compete against the better sides , I'm sure the boys will give it all they've got. Goodluck boys!

Oh & no5 in the 2s is Lepper. 34yrs old , 3 time NFL reserve B&F , terrific bloke & great clubman.

Ripping game of footy up at Hurstbridge yesterday very quick and tough game. Both sides will be in the mix come finals time I have no doubt.. Ben Fennell for HB is an absolute jet and the young bloke Francis from Macleod can play a bit too. Keep an eye on number 22 for the stars, name escapes me, he did some special things yesterday as well.

Daniel Francis was the factor that got Hurstbridge over the line. Kicked his 5 goals but as the goals were drying up in the third quarter he was put in the centre and did plenty to get Hurstbridge back in the game and gain momentum.

So as I mentioned, so much for the youth policy, the glass cannot be half full

Yes disappointing if young blokes are missing out on a game. My opinion would be to play/keep them all , but im not sure their is a youth policy in place. Lets hope we don't lose any , but if I felt I'd done all the preseason & was over looked ,then I'd probably move on. Mernda's loss.
As for blokes missing a game due to training attendance , bad luck to them. Should have made more of an EFFORT from November till now. Blokes walking in to any club in march expecting anything , should expect to be last picked! IMO.

Then why are you playing a guy in his 40s w
while youngsters looked on, your twos were disinterested, no mateship, no go, was a very interested eaves dropper after this game with three players having a "why play here " conversation, apparently two played in the D3 ones GF

There were many premiership players missing from Merndas 2s side on the weekend, as well as new recruits!

Michael Arcus (C)
Josh Wuelfert
Luke Martin
Chris Zab
Robert Barbara (Gone to Braybrook)
Michael Aparo
Robert Aparo
Matt Milner
Jordan Aldrich
Matty Bahen
Nathan Johnson (retired)
Chris Keller
Dave Collett
Nick Matkin
Jayden Drummond
Brett Smout

there just to name a few, so there is alot of talent still to come back into the side.

A new guy from thomastown number 26 Jordan Young showed a bit of promise, however looks a little unfit and unsure how many times his trained at mernda!

Still some very good players to come back into the sides!

Also had 7 players getting there first taste of action against real men, not under 19s, and 2 players playing there first game at the club, along with 2 who have returned..

However, the comment about no mateship was correct, compared to the unbeaten season the 2s had last year.

How about Diamo not shaking hands with North after the game? Is this true?
Not sure about that, was a tough battle all day with the better side on the day getting the money. Thought the doggies were well below their best but were still in it with 5 minutes to go. Think both Diamo & North will give Whittlesea some headaches, Merda & Hurstbridge both having top wins, looks like Div 2 will be a bit tighter this year.

Well according to three doggies players, Diamo refused to shake hands with any of them. Heard it was a great contest but showing such poor sportsmanship puts a taint on the win.

Took a decent hanger late in the game as well right in front of the crowd.

gday all anyone at the creek / nth game shed any light on why creek refused to shake hands with nth

No truth in this one. A tough hard game and when the siren went everyone shook hands. Going to be a big game this week against the Bridges who will have their tails up after beating the Stars last week. 22c and sunny so should be a cracker at the Kennel!

We won't have our tails up but we won't lay down either

How many of them actually playing!mmmmm

Round Two
Mernda Vs Whittlesea - Don't ask. Really though Saturday is all about how we manage to stop Spider and Harro. It will be difficult. Having said that hopefully we can use our run and carry to counter this. Should be a great game. Really think we can challenge the Eagles, if we do I'll be rapt.
Lalor Vs South Morang - Think Lalor will bounce back.
Fitzroy Stars Vs Diamond Creek - Think Stars will get the chocolates again.
North Heidelberg Vs Hurstbridge - great that Hurstbridge won last week but I think the Dogs will kickstart their season with a good win at home.

Mernda to beat Whittlesea # IF , on our small ground ,we flood their fwd line well. 11 points.
Diamo to beat stars in a thriller. 4points.
Lalor to beat Morang - easy, 9 goals.
North to beat hursty by 5 goals.

11 of these blokes will be looking to get a game. Out of that maybe 7 are capable of playing 1s.
The u19s folding has hurt the club , obviously.
I'd say it will be a case , For ALL the 2s players , to get a chance & MAKE THE MOST of it.
As I posted earlier , from what I've seen of the kids coming through I'd be giving them as much opportunity as possible , as their are a few with the POTENTIAL ( hate that word) to be very good 1s players in coming seasons. With the right direction , influence & a fair bit of HARDWORK.

Interesting" ins" for Mernda, blokes that havent played practice matches or trained.

Whittlesea v Mernda - whittlesea to give mernda a reality check 10 goals
Diamond creek v Stars - a disciplined creek under calthorpe too good 4 goals
Lalor v Morang - Morang to shock lalor 1 goal
North] v Hurstbridge - despite the huge improvement of the bridge, north too good to lose 2 in a row 5 goals

A couple of good games for this round:

Whittlesea vs Mernda The premiership favourites expected to give the new boys a lesson
South Morang vs Lalor Expect the Bloods to bounce back against a struggling Lions
Fitzroy Stars vs Diamond Creek A real difficult one, but giving the home team a chance
North Heidelberg vs Hurstbridge Expect the Doggies to bring the 'Bridges back down to earth

Some interesting games again in round 2:

Whittlesea v Mernda Demons to come back to earth this week with a thud. Premiership fancies to
good 10 goals.
South Morang v Lalor Closet game of the round, wouldn't be surprised if the lions got up. Bloods just 5pts.
Fitzroy Stars v Diamond Creek Think the boys from Creek are in for a big year, not sure about the Stars just yet. 5 goals
North Heidelberg v Hurstbridge Bridges full of confidence and will push the Dogs, Experience might just win out here. Bulldogs by 2 goals
