Book and Gray are still young as is Ryder.
They wont be young in 4 years when Harvey, Howard and Shaw start delivering, if they ever deliver.
The seasons gone. It's time to get our most talented player into the game for longer periods and let's find out just how good Wingard can be.
How good he is at kicking the ball to nobody? Its counter productive giving Wingard more midfield time or dropping Schulz, does nothing for our development, just makes us more of an unstructured mess and completely ruins confidence.

He will catch your eye anyway if the last few weeks are any indication.
Logan Austin and Dougal Howard have caught the lion share of the hype
probably coz of their size while Palmer goes about his business of finding the ball, marks and goals.
Of course its early days but so far its promising.
Gee I like what I see of AhChee and Amon too.
For a smokey try Wagner
Thanks Byron.

Yep. Need to recruit one for next year. If possible.

Firstly season 2015 needs to be completed by us showing improvement and keeping our chances mathematically alive for making finals. That is how you prepare for 2016. We've seen a circus out there thus far, I don't want to see a 'give up' attitude and see more of a circus out there because they strike a line through the rest of their season. We can blood new talent and improve at the same time. It is about getting better now not later when it suits them. Ironically this season I have wondered if our players have resorted to picking and choosing when they want to put in and when they don't.

In terms of finals aspirations, does the Crows and Geelong sharing theorists (which is totally understandable) really hurt club like us, the dogs and GWS?
No because we won't get close to challenging for the 8th place.

What did Dermie say? We are 11 wins from our last 27 games. That's shite

Well, I'm not having a go, I'm just really expressing a real concern. I don't want us to go through the wilderness again on the back of being dishonest about our football.

Not sure why or how, but I still reckon that first 5 round draw was the difference. We escaped with a positive 3-2 and everything looked a formality.

So we thought.

This year is shot. Lets reload with the emphasis on a round 1 flogging of whoever in 2016.

Here's what I'd do:

1. Wingard to play as a full time midfielder
2. Amon, Ah Chee and Colquhoun to play every week
3. Play O'Shea. If we must persist with the plus one at least make it a player who can intercept.
4. Place Polec in cotton wool
5. Drop Jonas, Carlile, Schulz, Lobbe and anyone else after unacceptable performances
6. Launch a review of the entire preseason program
7. Head hunt a new director of coaching - Shaun Hart to a player welfare role
8. Target a midfielder who can take a contested mark in the draft
9. Find some depth
This is one of the best posts ive read. I agree with pretty much all of that

If we need a midfielder who can take a contested mark - look no further than Charlie Curnow from Vic Country/Geelong Falcons
Have seen him live - very good player in traffic who can play as a key forward - much like Jake Stringer

His dimensions are intriguing... But has he grown to the 195cm mark that's been reported ??

Or could he get around through the midfield Fyfe/Cripps style ??

Interesting post.
In the midst of all the disappointment i think it has some substance.
The pain of seeing what is happening atm is excruciating.
I still think some serious thinking and adjustments will be needed though, we are holding onto players who dont seem to add much to this side.
Yes , from here on in how KH reacts ( gold pass , game plan , team confidence ) will have the biggest bearing on how we go next year I feel.

I suspect there may be a few more changes to the list at the end of this year than I originally envisaged, I originally thought 3, but now it won't surprise me if it is as many as 5 or 6.

Regardless of how many players are moved on though it may not make a big difference if some of the dead wood stay on as assistant coaches, maybe some have got in the comfort zone, and maybe 1 or 2 others were arguably bad choices from the get go.

Re the lightweight player situation, DBJ was listed in the footy budget as 181 cm and 70 kg ( he def didn't look any heavier than that last sunday ) 11 cm taller, but only 3kg heavier than Jake Neade, who is not exactly a pack buster himself, although Neade because of his low centre of gravity can sometimes win the hard ball.

DBJ is just another fringe player on the list who looks ok when running free, but is regularly brushed aside by bigger bodies in the snafl, so what hope would he have against the big boys in the AFL.
For those who want to argue, I doubt he has the frame size to ever get any heavier than about 75-78 kg, so he could regularly be giving away upwards of 10 kgs to his opponents in the big league, plus a significant height difference as well.

As for Sam Russell, there would be blokes who rode in the Great Eastern at easter who wouldn't be a lot smaller than him.

To those calling for Austin or Howard even Harvey to debut this season nothing I've seen in Magpie games tells me they are ready.
Another pre-season then maybe and Frampton comes to mind also.

I want the club to be honest with us in terms of preparations for 2016.
If we start testing out players for next year then please communicate that.

Our crowd numbers wont drop off if we put our future on display, however they may if we go into denial/spin/bullshit mode.

I hope we pick players for 2016 starting now.

That's my 2 cents worth.

What is clear from looking at the various thread even us as supporters can't put our finger on it, on one hand we have a thread complaining that burgess has trimmed down our players and we aren't big enough, then in another for up and coming changes for next week some are wanting to bring in lighter framed players and drop some of our bigger bodied guys. From seeing the game live last night we lost direction and the willingness to work for each other I'm yet to see the replay but on several occasions we played on quick from the back line only to have our guys up the field with backs turned and not prepared to run into space hence for some of terrible kicking out of the backline, not sure if they who is doing what out there but that comes from desire to work for each other.

I agree. This year has mystified all of us. Ken does need to look at getting a wise ol senior assistant.

It's shite but I doubt any club has had a tougher run of 27 games in the history of this sport.

Don't 10 of them include Swans, Freo and Hawthorn?
