The following are my own thoughts about the season just gone. May differ to yours but that doesn't make either of us wrong. Look forward to hearing what others think.

1. Sophie Molan

Rating 5

Games 9
Score 0.0
Avg Disposals 8.7
Avg Marks 0.9
Avg Tackles 2.8
Avg Clearances 0.9

A player who's work can sometimes go un-noticed, 2021 has been a solid season for Sophie. Would be looking to have more impact in 2022 and a strong preseason may help her cover the ground better and achieve more midfield time.

2. Phoebe Monahan

Rating 3

Games 6
Score 0.0
Avg Disposals 8.8
Avg Marks 1.8
Avg Tackles 1.7

After a stellar 2020 where she was unlucky not to be named as All-Australian, lost her backline position to new recruits Cordner and D'Arcy and eventually her position in the team and couldn't get back in.

3. Katie Brennan

Rating 9

Games 9
Score 14.7
Avg Disposals 13.3
Avg Marks 3.1
Avg Tackles 2.6

Not only her best season in AFLW but one of the form players in the competition. Moved to a more permanent forward role, took it by the throat and kicked a career high 14 goals for the season. Our Captain stepped up whenever the team needed that little bit of inspiration. Off the field the team could not be in better hands. We are lucky she is a Tiger.

4. Monique Conti

Rating 9

Games 8
Score 0.2
Avg Disposals 22.3
Avg Marks 1.8
Avg Tackles 3.1

Simply dominated in the centre in 6 of the 8 games she played. Possesses the best evasive skills in the game and will surely be well in contention for the AFLW Team of the Year. Still only 21 so her best is still ahead of her which is a scary proposition for the competition.

5. Maddy Brancatisano

Rating 6

Games 8
Score 0.0
Avg Disposals 11.8
Avg Marks 1.8
Avg Tackles 2.8

Became an important player for the Tigers using her run and skills to good use. Marked improvement on 2020. Should take great confidence from her season in 2021 and use it as a launching pad for 2022.

6. Christina Bernardi

Rating 4

Games 6
Score 4.1
Avg Disposals 6.7

Lost her spot in the side after round 2 and worked hard at VFLW level to regain her place in the team in round 6 . Hit the scoreboard and provided great pressure with repeat efforts and crunching tackles. Feared it might all be over for her when she lost her spot but came back with greater intensity to show there is still a bit left in the tank.

A great acquisition. Was always a fan of her fierce determination but by seasons end had me thinking that she was an even better footballer than I thought. I suspect 2021 has totally justified her move to the Tigers both in the minds of her fans and her own. Fantastic year for her.

8. Courtney Wakefield

Rating 6

Hart, Roach, Richardson, Riewoldt….you can now add Wakefield to Richmond's list of tall, strong marking key forwards. Took marks she had no right to take on occasions. Teamed well with Brennan to regularly hit the scoreboard and also worked hard up the ground to provide a marking option. Will there ever be a better footballer to come out of Top Hut? I doubt it!

9. Hannah Burchell

Up and down year for Kodi. Used mainly as a small forward this year after midfield time last year and probably didn’t have the impact expected over the course of games. Speed an issue so may need to find an extra trick or two but only 20 so has time on her hands. Seems like a pretty determined kid so I wouldn't rule out better output from the number 10 in 2022.

11. Alice Edmonds

Unfairly or not, will always be assessed on the back of her "marquee" signing. Had a slow start to the season and whilst her work rate improved as the season progressed was still a far cry from the top contested marking, physical player we saw at the Lions. Still only 24 which usually means a player is only just entering their peak and definitely fitter this year so lets hope she maintains and improves on this to give herself a chance to be the player we think she can be.

Some may have been surprised by Rebecca this season but those who watched her closely in 2019 would say she returned to the form that saw her named in the VFLW Team of the Year. A fine season in 2021 and no reason she can't back it up in 2022.

Outstanding first season. Thrown straight into the middle at the first bounce in the first game and showed just why she was the first picked in the 2020 draft and just got better and better. Has the talent to be one of the very best in the competition very quickly. Just as impressive is her maturity off-field. Mentored by KB and it shows.

Quite simply a rock in defence. It didn’t take long for us to see why the club was so eager to recruit Harriet. Outstanding in the air and should figure strongly in the club B & F. If you listen to her in episode 8 of Sam Lane's The Originals you will find her just as impressive off the field.

25. Cleo Saxon-Jones

Rating DNP

Sadly, as was the case last year, injured most of the season and has only just commenced playing with affiliate Port Melbourne which is promising. Needs a break. Hopefully can get some decent footy and fitness under her belt at the lower level and gets another opportunity next year.

One of the games newcomers but don't be fooled, this girl can play and has a thirst for more. One of the big improvers and may surprise again next year in the thick of the action.

29. Hannah McLaren

Rating DNP

Injury replacement player for Holly Whitford but could not force her way onto the team ahead of Miller, D'Arcy or Cordner. Impressed in her season for Port Melbourne so far and I think can make the grade if eventually given the opportunity.

The surprise packet in season 2021 for mine. Quick, agile and a decent set of footy skills made Tessa one of the finds of the season. Didn't think I'd be saying this when I heard her name read out on draft night but not only will she be better next year, her return will make the team better in 2022. I hope that happens.

Some may have been surprised by Rebecca this season but those who watched her closely in 2019 would say she returned to the form that saw her named in the VFLW Team of the Year. A fine season in 2021 and no reason she can't back it up in 2022.

Missed R1 after carrying over a suspension from 2020 and found it tough to break into the side finally playing the last 3 games of the season. Promising youngster who should be there in R1 in 2022.

Small forward who did provide pressure in our forward line on occasions but struggled to find enough ball especially late in the season. Needs a big preseason as I think Sarah is a better player than the one we saw.

Sadly, as was the case last year, injured most of the season and has only just commenced playing with affiliate Port Melbourne which is promising. Needs a break. Hopefully can get some decent footy and fitness under her belt at the lower level and gets another opportunity next year.

Enormous in the ruck this year and despite giving away height to opponents, usually came out on top via a big leap and through sheer work rate around the ground. One of the games newcomers but don't be fooled, this girl can play and has a thirst for more. One of the big improvers and may surprise again next year in the thick of the action.

29. Hannah McLaren

Now comes the interesting part of the ratings
Based on that, who gets delisted and who if any retires?

Delist
Alana Woodward
Holly Whitford
Hannah McLaren
Akec Makur-Chuot

Retirement
Christina Bernardi

These 5 are a good start, Woodward, Whitford and McLaren aren't anywhere near in our team come game day next season, unless we have a horrific run of injuries, new draftee's/young players should be given a go before them
Maker-Chuot will struggle to break in next year, especially as a few more young players pass her, she might be good for depth but is it worth it?
These 4 are VFLW grade only and should be cut to make way for the juniors
I think it's time Bernardi retired AFLW and begins the next chapter of her career, which is coaching
Get her down at Port VFLW on game days and be a playing coach and at RFC as a line coach, preferably taking over from Lauren Tesoriero, so she can concentrate on recruitment/player development
Edmonds i'd keep as a insurance for Seymour, Frederick is not a 1st ruck anymore
Dargan, Saxon-Jones, Lesosky-Hay & Harley should be given another year as they're still young
These are just my thoughts and i would really like for other posters to share theirs :)

Also what do we do with Frederick going forward?
Hasn't kicked enough goals, taken enough marks, got enough possies per game and is she our answer as a 2nd/backup ruck
2nd year in and hasn't lived up to her Lions form, what do we do?
Should we look to move her on to say Geelong for their No 2 pick, to maybe get Prespakis?
She's still young (26 next season), but is she a dinosaur from the early days of the comp, has the standard passed her by?
League Footy is a brutal business, should we be brutal in our expectations of her maybe never getting back to her early comp form?
I hope she can, but realistically the last 2 years have been sub par to say the least, can we continue with her as is?
Keep her and hope it gets better or cut our losses and trade her?
Is she still a Marquee player like Brennan, or has Conti & McKenzie passed her in importance?

If Sabs got a decent offer elsewhere I dont think we’d stand in her way , she’s surplus to our needs with CW and kB as key forwards and Seymour good in the ruck
I don’t reckon many would lure her away , on basis of mo hope attracting nil interest, at best we throw Sabs a min 1 y deal , at best

Yes thats the same way i see it playing out
We'd have to move her on rather than some one comes a knocking
Are we stuck with her?
Because if we are, someone has to be held accountable, i'm looking at you Kate Sheahan!

Is that the same Kate Sheahan who got us Katie Brennan (for nothing) and Monique Conti? The one who played a part in bringing over Hosking and Cordner?

I reckon Sheahan has done ok.

Let’s not forget that Blair Hartley who I think has been enormous for our club also selected Ty Vickery, Cory Ellis and Ben Lennon as our first picks in several drafts.

Who knows you may be proven correct but let’s sit back and judge in 3 or so years from now.

Lol, she was worth a try at the time ,just strange how much the game has evolved and left her behind , KS gets a bad wrap, we also successfully bought in some bloody good imports

We think the same TM , just said as much , also the haul of Hosking, D’Arcy and Cordner was bloody impressive

The following are my own thoughts about the season just gone. May differ to yours but that doesn't make either of us wrong. Look forward to hearing what others think.

Great write-up Tiger. Broadly agree. If your scores convert to B&F votes, I agree with what you've got top 5:
  1. Conti or Brennan
  2. Brennan or Conti
  3. Seymour or McKenzie
  4. McKenzie or Seymour
  5. Hosking
I see a couple of the others differently. I'm looking forward to spending a little time over the long weekend mentally going back over the season, and will expand a bit.

I reckon she's the victim of expectation.

Does not kick as many goals as we'd like, or clunk the big contested marks. Does not rip a game apart like her Brissy form. Definitely not Marquee. But that's okay. Ellie and Mon can be that for us.

I think Sabs is fine where she is. Not great. But she's best 23 and manages to contribute both forward and in the ruck. Does some nice things around the ground. And we do need a second ruck. When she rolls into the middle, she doesn't get beaten. Absolute rarity to get a decent second ruck who is decent forward too.

I might have made the comparison before, but I reckon she's got a touch of the Tyrones. Good footballer at the level who just doesn't play the way we'd like them to play. But when you look at the alternative - Todd Elton - you see the good things about Tyrone, rather than his deficiencies. Our AFLW Todd Elton is a bloody long way back!

That's a pretty good take RB.

We have to lower expectations a bit as she won't be dominating like she did in 2017/2018 but still a pretty good player.

I get what you are saying about the comparisons to TV but Sabrina did reach the heights of the competition early in her career while TV didn't. That's where our expectation comes from. My frustration is that she isn't imposing herself physically enough in games. That brings teammates into the game even when your day is not going as well as you would like. Is she is scared she might hurt someone. I don't know. I also don't think she runs to the right spots on the ground to impose herself often enough. In terms of her ruck work, I'm not sure how much training she does on this but I don't see too many times where she takes into account where our mids are positioned at that contest.

I'd still have her in my team definitely. Probably has to re-invent herself a bit but she's a 6 foot, strong bodied player who can clunk a mark and is within range anywhere inside the 50 arcs with a booming kick. Still requires a decent player to stand her.

Lol, very good point. I think we all imagined what we wanted The Big Fella to become. With Sabs, we actually saw her do it.

Agree. It is frustrating that she rarely imposes herself physically. I reckon her positioning was much better this year, but still, she's more often on the ground 5 metres from an aerial contest than she is actually in the air, in the pack. That's my major gripe.

Don't mind her ruck work, for the second stringer. Doesn't get many to advantage, as you say, but not many second stringers do.

Sorry to everyone, my mistake, just re-read my notes and it wasn't Kate Sheahan who was doing the driving the get Sabs, it was predominantly Tom Hunter
Kate was more involved with getting KB and Conti :)

Would love to see her play with some physicality’, really should be bowling oppo over with her bulk and come out with ball , she’s too nice I feel . Will prob survive,,,,just
