Season 2022

Fair to say looking at recruiting the top 4-5 clubs in Div 2 would comfortably beat Yarra Glen, Belgrave, Healesville and Berwick Springs.

I think Div 2 will be a very strong and even comp in 2022.

Powelltown have recruited well and would start premiership favourites. Seem to have spent more $$$ in recruitment.

Kinglake have signed 2 players from NFNL Div 1 clubs but seem to have been reasonably quiet on recruiting front

Junction have signed a few which will help them, there top end players are still of the highest quality

Alex have seemed to re-sign everyone so will be up there again.

Warby with a new Iacono at the helm will continue to improve. Good depth with very good reserves team will help them to improve.

Yea and Broadford will have to improve some more but both clubs are working in the right direction and will cause some upsets.

Early ladder prediction
Powelltown
Kinglake
Alex
Junction
Warby
Yea
Broadford

Let’s hope we get a full season in 2022

Couldn’t agree more Thunder about division 2. Clubs are all in good positions and the recruitment of new and returning players augers well for 2022. Alexandra are the one to watch as they have everyone returning and have signed a couple of others who are mates of existing players that will be great additions to the club and the league as a whole.

Great to also see Broadford are really working hard to make some inroads in 2022. A new committee and coach and some good players returning will certainly help the club improve and be more competitive.

How does the league allow unfinancial clubs to continue to max out their salary cap? At the same time avoid going up divisions as their financial position is so unstable.

Top two teams neither got made to go up. Left to do what they want.
Love to know how Powelltown are able to recruit so heavily and with such high quality and keep within the salary cap. A signing such as Perry (and others already there) wouldn’t have come to the club for nothing. The Lakers may be a different situation as many of the guys heading there have links to the club. My concern for a club like Powelltown is they went into recess after going down a similar path previously of overpaying recruits who didn’t deliver and then it was up to the locals to save the club and bring it back from near extinction.

I still think both clubs belong in division 2 though as neither have the resources or are positioned to have sustained success in higher levels of football. I think where they are positioned now is the best outcome for both clubs and the competition.

Don’t agree. Yarra Glen get forced up due to being financial. Why should they go up and run the risk of derailing a club long term because other clubs spend beyond there means.

Yarra Glen are certainly very financial and that has been achieved due to some great work by those involved in the club that have them on a very sustainable pathway for continued success on and off field. Yarra Glen were not forced to go up a division and made the decision after the offer was made which included a large amount of discussion amongst both football and netball club members. The move up will be a good thing for them over the long term and some benefits have already been seen with new recruits and other people joining the club in 2022 due to the move into the higher division.

Congratulations to those involved at Yarra Glen in looking at the bigger picture when making this important decision - they will be ok.

Not correct. They were told.

Thanks staff but I am not convinced going from my conversations with a number of club people at YG. If you are able to definitively confirm this please do so.

Weren’t given a choice they were told they were going up. Straight from the horses mouth.

Hey staffonly, have heard the rumours about Powelly being unfinancial but never heard that about Kinglake, if that’s who you are referring too.

I think Kinglake footy could have survived in Div 1 but not sure their netball would have, and did that come into consideration

Well done to YG, either way they look like they have taken it on positively and will do a good job in both footy and netball in division 1

Your correct Kinglakes issue was netball.

Bit quiet so hopefully this gets some conversation going?

Guessing most clubs have started pre-season training, how have numbers been?

Who has practice matches locked in?

And don’t forget Valley Vicious Rett Syndrome Awareness Cup game on Saturday 26th Feb. Always a great day to watch some Valley legends in both footy and netball run around.

Great cause, let’s hope for a great day weather wise and lots of $$$$$ are raised

Broadford put out Facebook post for players. What happens to Div 2 if Broadford don’t get a team up. 6 team division doesn’t sound great but so late don’t think you can change it.

2023 league will need to look at 10 team Premier and 12 team division 1

FOR YOUR ATTENTION‼️

The Broadford Football Netball Club are urgently seeking players across all grades of football (Seniors, Reserves & Under 18s).
If the club does not get more interest in coming days, the football may not be able to compete in the 2022 season.

We are a family-friendly club with passionate and dedicated committee members, netballers, coaches and support staff, and great fitness facilities. The BFNC is a fantastic place to be! Without you though, the future of BFNC football is in doubt!

So grab your mates and head down to support our current core group of players, coaches and amazing club! 🏉🤩

Looks like one of the Sunbury teams is also pulling the plug. Must be still a bit of a shortage in the north and west.

Unfortunately, this happening all over the state. I think that the Covid scenario will cause a number of regions to re-assess their competition structures and we are also likely to see some clubs merge in different country regions if this season is affected as well.

I'm sure we will hear news over the next few weeks of clubs going into recess as their players choose the stability of work over having potentially another interrupted season. Unfortunately there'll be no coming back for some clubs. The futures of the Benalla Saints, Wahgunyah and East Sunbury are in doubt at present and we have only just hit February - there are more clubs that are probably in a similar boat but we don't know the extent of their plight yet.
