Crows midfielder Billy Dowling is set to miss the start of the season after suffering a foot injury in Friday night’s pre-season clash with West Coast.

Dowling twisted his right foot late in the game in Perth and is currently in a moon boot to aid his recovery.

“Billy had scans which have shown a joint-related issue in his foot,” Adelaide High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.

“It’s an unusual injury that will keep him off legs for at least a week but he will be reassessed after that and we anticipate a return to full training with the main group in 3-5 weeks.”

Defender Josh Worrell has resumed running after re-injuring his hamstring in the first pre-season clash against Fremantle and is in doubt to play in Round One.

“Scans showed a hamstring injury and we will take a cautious approach with Josh but a timeline for his return to training is really dependent on how he responds to treatment in coming weeks,” Burgess said.

Probably best placed here...

Keane might be in the picture for round 1 yet?

TRAINING NOTES

* Key defender Jordon Butts is being managed due to a sore shoulder but is tracking well.

* Ruckman Kieran Strachan was involved in match simulation, albeit with no contact, after missing the Crows’ reserves game last Friday with an elbow issue. Defender Andrew McPherson (knee) was the other player to train with no contact.

* Midfielder Billy Dowling was in a moonboot because of a foot injury that was set to sideline him for three to five weeks, while fellow draftee Hugh Bond (back niggle) trained away from the main group.

* Half-back Wayne Milera (personal reasons) was absent.

* The B side’s half-backs tried to emulate Giants duo Lachie Whitfield and Lachie Ash by playing very attacking during the match simulation.

I mentioned in the internal trial thread that Butts hurt his shoulder in the last quarter. It looked like a dislocation or a subluxation. The look on his face seemed to indicate “not again”.

Poor timing for Worrell to have hammy problems.

Only a minor fibula fracture..

He didnt seem too phased by it when he was walking past the media yesterday..

Might miss the sanfl trial games but hopefully not much else..
Broken leg. Not expected to impact his season too much.

A broken leg is 6 weeks right??
He just about jogged off up past the media out to the carpark after it.. the media yelled out to him and asked him about it and he said its all good..

It would be a tiny fracture..

If it was an actual broken leg where you needed 6 weeks or more they wouldnt have had him simply wandering around after it!

Ive not been a fan of Matts over the last few years but he seemed to take the knocks and work really hard

To now see him miss with an injury like this is sad for him

I hope he can recover sufficiently to be a factor for whichever side he plays in

Geez there’s some click bait around on this broken leg

Please no one get mistaken by the difference between a small crack in the fibula (small non weight bearing bone) and a broken tibia (thick, weight bearing bone)

1 you get carried off on a stretcher with, the other requires an X-ray to determine if it is anything more than a corked muscle, he more than likely continued to try run it out.

Nope, he went off and up the players race straight away looking at the 7 News coverage.

Midfielder Matt Crouch is expected to be sidelined for the next fortnight as he recovers from a fractured fibula.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury at training on Friday and scans later revealed a minor fracture to his right leg.

“It’s enough to keep him off his legs this week and we expect him to return to running next week and be available the week after,” Crows High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.

“Obviously it could have been better and there be no fracture there, but it could have been worse because it was a nasty knee that he copped.

“Matt’s moving around pretty much pain free at the moment so just as a precaution we will keep him off legs this week and get him going again next week.”

Crows High Performance Manager Darren Burgess gives the weekly injury update.
Defender Josh Worrell is also continuing his recovery from a hamstring injury he suffered in the pre-season game against Fremantle.

“Josh is moving really well and we expect him to be integrated into training in the next two weeks so we are looking at a three to four week return to play period from now,” Burgess said.

“Obviously it’s frustrating for him, he was training so well in pre-season and looking as good as he ever had, but unfortunately these things happen and he’ll be back bigger and better I’m sure.”

Draftee Billy Dowling is out of a moon boot as he deals with a joint-related foot injury from the practice game against West Coast.

“We anticipate Billy will be running next week and back to training the week after so probably about that three to four week mark before he’s ready to return to play,” Burgess said.

“He’s out of his moonboot and in the gym, we will keep him off legs for another few days and then get him going next week.”

Injury list as of Tuesday, March 14:

Billy Dowling (foot) 4 weeks
Josh Worrell (hamstring) 3-4 weeks
Matt Crouch (leg) 2-3 weeks
