Getting Keidean Coleman back to his best for the last 2-3 games of the H&A season in seniors would be massive for us, would take our take the game on through the corridor style of play to an even higher level... good luck trying to shutdown both Kiddy and Zorks.

Six games CD have mentioned as a big change.
It certainly is not just in style. That's 35% of games played this season being a new style.

Was the change planned or was it the opposition we met in those 6 games.
Probably a bit of both.

For quite a few years we have gone into that tempo game style then moved forward when something opened up or we just had to move it on.
This style won us a lot of games over the years but no premiership.

Last year we found ourselves well down against GWS in the semifinal and all looked lost.
From that point on it was all out offense to get the win.
Similar with Geelong. We found ourselves 4 goals down again midway through the third, it was all offense to get the win.
The Swans GF it was all offense from the start with some good defense also helping.

New year we had 16 in the rehab group.
I think it was back to a safer (normal) game style again while all players found their fitness level.

Last week against the Blues after 3/4 time we did go back to that mark chip style having a 52-point lead at that time.
I think that was on purpose as you never know when you have to change styles during a game. We may have to this week.
You can practice this at training but way better to do it in a real game

I don’t know the ins and outs but don’t mature teams often change style in-season. The ‘biggest change in the history of the game’ is a flashy headline. We just look like we’ve switched to a higher intensity more aggressive style similar to watch we did in finals last year.

It may be to do with the conditioning of the players as the season progresses as well and responding to feedback on style?

Think they mentioned off the cuff that we have the best half back line in the past 6 weeks as well.

I still worry about Kiddy and Zorko in terms of defense especially running defensively. I'm still to be convinced whether we can carry both on the same half back line.

Complete speculation but based on previous conditioning concerns around kiddy, even prior to the ACL, wouldn’t be surprised if he’s at least a month off being considered for seniors. They’ll want to be 110% sure he has no niggles or worries and can run out a game. He was around 60% TOG last weekend, so may take a while. The question then is are we messing with too much of the unknown re how we look so close to finals. Maybe he will come in as sub for some finals? Idk.

As you say it isn't totally new to us but I do wonder whether the early season crackdown on short kicks encouraged this. Harder to chip chip around if you are going to be called to play on if you do a 16m kick inside D50.

That and Collingwood totally shutting down our slow ball movement approach on easter thursday.

I look at the Geelong crowd a few weeks ago. They were so tame. Like, there was one moron behind me who literally whinged the whole night about the umpiring and how sh!t Geelong were and what w***ers Brisbane fans are (compliment accepted). He fair dinkum made Collingwood fans sound intelligent, it truly was a remarkable performance.

The rest of them were so polite and well mannered, as they were really the last two times I went down there, in 2021 and 2022. Both of those were losses for us so it wasn't like they suddenly become monsters depending on the result. After the 2021 game (the Zac Bailey tackle game) a lady came up to me as we were all leaving the ground to say "you guys deserved to win". And even after the game a month ago, a random Geelong fan in his mid-late 40s called out to me as we were walking away from the ground. I assumed he was gonna heckle me but he goes "goodness me your blokes were good tonight... I hope we avoid you in the finals"! I was gobsmacked. Just so gracious.

They must be the nicest fans, and it makes me wonder if it's simply because of all the flags they've won recently, and if going to Kardinia Park in say 2006 would have been a more hostile experience? I'm not sure either way - maybe with a smaller capacity back then it was harder for casual fans to get tickets so there was a higher % of morons?
I sat adjacent to the Geelong cheer squad at a game in the early 90's and that was my sheltered upbringing blown to the shizenhausen in the space of one afternoon.

Some good stats dropped on on on the couch. Since round 13:

  • #1 for points from turnover
  • #1 intercept to score
  • #1 half back to score
On the defensive side:

  • Going from 5th to 2nd for points against from intercepts
  • Scores per inside 50 have gone from 8th to 6th

Did they wheel out the premiership window? I believe we are finally in it for the first time?

Thankyou for sitting through Jack Riewoldt so the rest of us don't have to 🙏

Think we snuck in last week

On the couch did the premiership window, and we've gone further away from it since round 16. Not looking good... For a reminder, no team below the premiership window has won the flag in the last 20 occasions.
Premiership window is compromised in 2025, Cats continually playing teams in the bottom 9, we have been widely reported as having the hardest fixture of all time.

The class difference between the top 9 and bottom 9(Swans been half decent) is very stark can not recall it ever being so wide.

Geelong play all the bottom teams and keep on rising. Go figure.

They did talk about how Brisbane's fixture is a lot harder than the other teams, which should be considered. However, it's the truth. No team below the premiership window has won the flag in the last 20 years. If we end up being below it (hard fixture or not) we would have to do something no team has been able to do. Although, i do believe they did a premiership window a month ago where they did one with the top 9 teams playing each other, and Brisbane was barely in it on that one.

Geelong are in it? A team that we beat twice this year
