The Gabba is the only AFL venue being used. It will be out of action for a couple of seasons while it is rebuilt, and part of 2032.
So that won’t affect the AFL season apart from Brisbane playing elsewhere.
Will it be completely unusable, or still usable at reduced capacity like other grounds during construction?

The plan is to demolish and rebuild. Out of action for three years in between Ashes tests in 2025/26 and 2029/30, probably 26/27/28.
So Lions will use Metricom for 3 years? Sucks for them but long term will be amazing for the state, Gabba is crap right now.

Whilst the Gabba is being redeveloped, maybe the AFL could try a Lions home game in Cairns and Townsville for each of those seasons. Would help offset any the need to find venues in SE Qld.

Yes, it would be a good idea to spread "the load" around so to speak.

I listened to a podcast with the BL CEO.
1. Rebuild will be between Ashes series in 25/26 & 29/30.
2. They are hoping to miss only two seasons (could work with a 32 month build, from Aug 26 to April 29)
3. Their under construction Springfield base will be expanded to 15K - 20K (could be temporary or permanent) for the games v mid size clubs like Dogs, Port, Swans etc. Maybe 4 - 5 each year
4. Big games v Pies, Tigers, etc to be played @ Metricon Maybe 5 each year
5. One or two games in regional areas v Freo, GWS, etc. Assume Cairns & Townsville.

From my memory Swans Vs Lions games are amongst the better attended games.
- similar history, state rivalry and the number of New South Welshmen present.

No. Swans average is below all Vic clubs besides Dees & Roos, 11th best crowds @ Gabba. SImilar @ Metricon, in the bottom half. Actually each club's popularity at Gabba & Metricon is similar. The big Vic clubs draw best at both venues. Pies, Tigers, Bombers, Blues, Hawks & Cats will be the Metricon games.

Where is the link to this statement ?
I see Sydney doing consistently well with attendances at the Gabba and Carrara.
I see a couple of big Vic teams and the obvious form teams doing better.

click the link and find out for yourself perhaps.

It is there. Sydney away average at the Gabba 20,288. would probably be 11th just be quickly looking at it.

Since the Brisbane Lions era, that rises to 24,799. That is still below Collingwood(27,911), Richmond, Essendon, Carlton, Hawthorn and Geelong.

The link is for AFL Tables not anything specific.

That doesn't conflict with anything i said.
i said "I see a couple of big Vic teams and the obvious form teams doing better."
In fact I see the Gabba attendance for Swans games rising significantly as the rivalry grows.
I see also that Carrara attendances for Swans games is relatively better than the Gabba.

Swans are 11th of 17th for average Gabba crowds. Not sure what you are seeing, but they are below average.

Not sure what that is. The link shows the average away attendances of clubs @ Gabba. Swans are 11th. Which is why the Lions have said that those games will be at the smaller Springfield venue.

Then what about this ? Same result.
It definitely doesn't show Sydney Swans at 11th It shows them at 7th.
