While the Royals lay claim to the most recent 12-month curse, the Coney Island Warriors signed up for a lifetime subscription of that bad boy. More than a few times over the past decade, the words “it’s finally our year” have been uttered, but alas, trouble just seems to find them, and trouble is the dust in their premiership cabinet.
In Season 41, they started like a house on fire, but then the firefighters were the Dragons - yes kind of ironic - and they doused their season in the most evident display of déjà vu in the SFA. They have since dropped not only the Dragons game, but one to the Bears, and slipped from top to fifth in an instant with a 4-2 record and the lowest percentage of those top eight teams.
East Side Hawks also had a rare blemish last week when they went down to the reinvigorated Old Boys. Prior to that they had won five on the trot and were firing on all cylinders, but a 37-point humbling at home has them arriving at Van Cortlandt Park with extra fire in the belly.
Much like the Royals, the Warriors have plenty of high-posting players with the likes of TheInjuryFactory and Tonga Bob battling it out for beez votes, and The Filth Wizard enjoying putting the feet up and booting goals every week. Dingster and Barrybran are among the other experience players in the Warriors’ outfit which is why they continue to stick around and keep spirits high despite their lack of success.
The Hawks on the other hand have no shortage of recent success, winning back-to-back flags in Seasons 38-39 before a straight sets exit in Season 40, despite a minor premiership.
The toughest challenge for Callums_Guns is how he has to keeps the biggest rivalry in SFA footy - if you ask them - okeydoke7 and Tarkyn_24 in check, and probably avoid them trying to kill the other to argue their case as the best full-forward of all-time. Tadpole and sausageroll are among some of the other players who I know. boncer34 only had two kicks last week so doubt was up all night pre-ordering premiership DVDs in advance.
I give both teams a 50% chance of success, but after the late, great Dennis Cometti told me he’s going East Side, I’ll have to disagree and go… the Hawks.
