After calming down over the weekend from Friday's nightmare I started to think about the rest of the season.

We are not in the position of previous years at them moment and the footy gods have done us no favours with injuries. But by no means is our season shot.

Losing Ball is going to be hard if not impossible to cover but never the less it is possible.

We are 1 win 2 losses at the moment with a truck load of keys players out. But if we can get through the next month with at least three wins which is very doable then we get to round 8 4 and 3.Better still if we can win the next four and Essendon looks a tough ask at the moment with key defenders out then we turn 5 and 2. By then all things going right we should have Tarrent and Reid ready for selection. On top of that Johnson and Didak should be back in the side already and maybe Brown. All of a sudden we meet Geelong with a decent side and we are sitting in the 8.We win we are 6 and 2 most likely in the top four but even if we lose we sit 5 & 3 with 3 very winnable game leading into the bye.

If we can get to the bye with only losing 1 or 2 more games we give ourselves a chance to make a run for the top 4.After the bye we have a tough run but who knows what happens from there. Other sides could cope the luck we have had so far.

Of course we would have to make a big turn around from the Carlton game. A lot of players would have to make a big improvement on what they have produced so far this year i.e Swan Thomas Dawes Jolly and so on but it can happen. You don't go from a great side last year to nothing over a preseason. Granted I am having faith that our players have some pride and pull the fingers out and guys coming back from injuries have no set backs.

We can sit back and be happy to bag the players club and coach and say our year is stuffed or we can have faith in a group that has given us a great deal of happiness over the past few years and get behind them. Each to their own but I know what I'm doing.

GO YOU BLACK & WHITE.

13 wins get a side into the 8, we only need to get 12 more.
Look through the draw, you will be able to find 12 wins very easily.

13?

A side hasn't needed more than 11 for a few years now. Hell, Essendon got there in 2010 with 10 and a half.

We made 4th in 2002 with 13 wins.

We will only need 11 wins this year to make the 8. But if the club is only trying to scrape into the 8 then they shouldn't bother. Might as well tank for picks from now.

It's Round 3 for god's sake. We're technically 2 games off top of the ladder. Let's calm down a bit when talking about season write offs.

We started 2010 in pretty shitty fashion too. Yeah, this year looks worse no doubt, but I'd say we should be waiting until round 7-10 before declaring where we'll finish this year.

Right now, our biggest problem is effort. I said during the NAB Cup that all the senior players look like they're in CBF mode, and it appears that they still are. Somehow, Buckley needs to figure out how to snap them out of it. If he can do that, we'll be fine.

I still personally believe our best football is better than anyones.

Changing coaches is like in an athletices relay race transferring the baton.

There is a slow down and that's understandable.

Also, all the injuries and playing several VFL players kills you in tight games.

We've played and lost to possibly the best two teams, in the above situation and were competitive to last qtr in one of those, and to HT in the other.

Apart from the ACLs, the injured players are gradually returning to the fray.

Don't let all the media frenzy be a distraction, we'll be OK.

Can't believe people are even suggesting we have to think about making the 8. With our talent that's a given. We are a top 4 side everyday of the week and that's where our expectations should be for 2012. I want a flag this year and that is far from being off the table.

We should win the next 4 and everyone will look at 5-2 in a very different light to how it's being seen now. If we drop games to the Essendons and Ports etc in the next few weeks that will change things but with our talent I just don't see that happening

We've got this. Players got the kick up the ass they needed, just you wait. We will ****ing smash port! Blair will stand up (or sidey!!) and take over Balls spot, making it there own... BRING ON ANZAC DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

season ends round 22. ideally finals ... premiers. Happened twice in my lifetime so I accept isn't going to happen every year.

if we are not going to be premiers then the season is all about developing the talent to get there. My hope is the pies are more aware of the difference than they have been in the past .... not interested in short term temporary solutions to structural problems that get us half way there and cost us big time in the years to come.

We will rebound from ugly, horrible friday. Whether we are premiership material is yet to be determined. IT will remain in question the entire year. Can only hope the club - EM - and supporters remain calm during the 22 rounds of questioning ...

Lets look back at 2010:

In round 2, we had the mother of unconvincing wins, beating Melbourne by 1 point and kicking the kast two goals of the game to pinch it.

In round 3, we kicked 4.17 against St Kilda, no goals in the second half, and the media were very quick to jump on us and criticise us.

In round 4, we played Hawthorn, our bogey side for years, and stitched them up by 10 goals. We went on to win the flag, winning our three finals by a combined margin of 159 points.

Also, Brisbane won their first 4 games of the year (after a semi final appearance in 2009), sat on top of the ladder, and then their season inexplicably went to the crapper, only winning 3 more games.

IT CAN CHANGE VERY QUICKLY:thumbsu:
Any Collingwood story is a good story, ignore the beatup in the media atm (Grant Thomas said it was a storm in a teacup, took the words right out of my mouth) and we will come out breathing fire on Saturday.

We are fortunate we have a reasonable month coming up.

CARN THE PIES:D

The way I see it is the club still has a lot of players to come back into the side. Luke Ball is a big loss, Krakouer and Macaffer are frustrating, but isolate it to those 3 players and they can be replaced and covered. The team will need some things to improve, but 1 win and 2 losses, it is pretty early to say things one way or another.

I think i'll wait for a few more games - but in reality the season is pretty much clear by the end of May so we've got till round 9 Adelaide to sort ourselves out. I'd say if we are less than 6-3 by then we'll be in considerable trouble as regards our top four aspirations.

Anything less than top 4 will be a major disappointment in my book yet it wont be easy.

Looking at the major contenders and my predicitions to round 9:

Blues - 8 wins +
Cats - 6 wins +
Hawks - 7 wins +
North - 6 wins +
WCE - 7wins +
Essendon - 6 wins +
Swans - 7 wins +

As you can see we have very little margin for error (as one of 5 clubs with aspirations for 1 top 4 spot assuming Blues, Eagles and Hawks are locked) as such the ANZAC day clash is building to being probably the most pivotal game of the year for us - lose that and we are pretty much in strife for the remainder of 2012.

I'm not sure, you only have to look at how Sydney won the 2005 grand final. I think at the end of round 10 they were 5-5 and out of the top 8. In 2006 they were 1-3 after 4 rounds, were 8th at round 15 and then went on to lose the GF by 1 point.

It's more about how teams finish the season than start it.
