Seasons not over we can get in the 8 by Rd 17 according to ladder predictor. And those that say what's the point we're just gonna be finals pretenders so lets just tank for draft picks can get farked. I don't go to games to watch us tank. No real footy fan wants to see that shit. Give me the last 3 years over cellar dwelling any day.

Would have thought its amazing what a new list and youth with talent can do!

Helps when recruiters know what to do!
Don't remember anyone saying that Carlton's list looked too flash when Bolton took over.
Or that Beveridge had a ready made finals side.
Our list is in the better shape than this year's results suggest.
But they've clearly lost faith in their ability to take the next step.
Losing three EF's in a row will do that.

Beveridge had a ready made finals side and how could CFC not improve with Gibbs back,Thomas back, Plowman and a few others lifting the team along with Weitering making a big impact for a first year player according to the commentators!

Who said CFC are too flash now? If the umpires are fair who is to say GWS will not belt them?

Dimma was already contracted for 2016. I still haven't heard a decent answer as to why he was given a contract extension for 2017 and 2018.

It just doesn't make any sense.

Imo our midfield is where we are struggling the most atm, with injuries to our only running backs in Houli and Yarran we are relying on players like Cellis, McIntosh, Bellis to fill gaps while keeping Vlas down there, and Dimma even earmarked Conca for a backline role this season.

Bellis(wing), Cellis(mid), McIntosh(wing), Vlas(mid), and Conca(mid) were our higher drafted mids that were supposed to take us to the promised land, and until we get them away from the backline we are stuck playing this defensive gamestyle that suit our midfield retreads. (Miles/Grigg/Townsend/Moore etc.)

We need to focus on recruiting retreads and lower draft picks for lesser roles through the backline (Houli/Morris/Grimes types) instead of the midfield which needs to be manned by high end draft talent(Cotch, Dusty, Vlas, Sheds, McIntosh, Bellis, Conca, Cellis, Lids) to enable us to move the ball quicker and cleaner through the middle and to improve our ceiling beyond what the retread role players can provide.

Mr/s #eci are you serious or trolling? We have no hope so why jeopardise our future winning to finish ninth as there is no reward for it?
Win as many games as you can to restore confidence and a winning culture, if we're not good enough so be it, but tanking is never the answer.

Lest we not learn from the Melbourne example of the early 10's.

Our aim as a club should be finals, until it is mathematically impossible for us to do so.

Who mentioned anything about tanking? Seriously it's about investing in your future and playing youth to either give them 11 games of experience or to see if guys like M bean George Elton etc are up to it. What benefit is there in playing list cloggers such as Hunt Chaplin etc ?

I've got no issue with doing that either, but it has to be done in a balanced way still.

We can't just make 10 changes to the team for next week and leave out every "senior" player with a question mark, obviously a guy such as Chaplin who's 30 y.o isn't going to be the future, but we shouldn't be writing off a guy like Hunt yet, he's only 24/25.

We should still be trying to win games of footy as well, it should be an equal focus of refreshing the list, and winning games of footy, not skewed in some 90/10 direction where we're not even celebrating wins as supporters anymore.

Exactly , but our future is more important than running into a ninth spot.I just want to see kids played over list cloggers to see where we are at
We look like playing a few kids next week bc of injuries

I look at Adelaide with some more handy youngsters like Atkins still coming through. Boy our recruiting is looking diabolical!!!

Tbh, not sure which coach would survive our recruiting and list management!!!!

We are dreaming if we think we can make the 8, dead set dreaming!!

For the sake of being pedantic. and also because I'm yet to give up until it is PROVEN we can't make it.

In the world of mathematics and probability we can be back in 8th spot come the start of round 17. if everything comes together like an omlete.
Understanding that probable and realistic are not one in the same. it's highly unlikely, at the same time It's not 100% absolute that our season is done.

Sure, we drop another 2 games and you'd be crazy to bet on us making the grade and I'd probably murmer that were finished at that stage.
I still can't bring myself to quit on the club.

Try new things. Drummond is close to a return. Broad can play defence give him a crack.
Rotate the young guys through the side Markov, Menadue, Castagna, Butler. They don't have to play every week.

If Morris will go onto the long term injury list. Elevate another rookie and let them play straight away.
Give Marcon, Chol or Moore a shot at a few games.

find out who is hungry to be a tiger, who wants to win, who plays to win and keep them in the team even if they're a bit rusty. Reward the Tiger fight and the desire to win.

Don't be affraid to drop top players to send a message. If you don't perform you don't play. Make them earn their spot instead of having the best part of the side already written out on team selection day. Don't settle on an idea of a plan coming together. keep making it better.

Some might not agree but that's ok.
for me, that's what I'd like to see happen for the remainder of the season once we are surely done with any hopes of finals
Fantastic Post. Houli, McIntosh, Brandon Ellis all need to get better. They will do this playing midfield in the VFL

Mate I reckon this will be a bit of a reality check.

We see nothing of what goes on inside the club, but they won't forget this one. Mostly because we started to look good again in the past few weeks, and then just got blown to bits by North.
Yeah we'll probably beat Gold Coast and Brisbane, but I reckon this one will sting and some things will be done as a result.

At least I hope so.
Mate, the club have said the same thing after the Ef losses. About how "This one hurts" and "we will use this to get better." What's changed? Nothing. It's the same inconsistent performances that we are used to.
I watched 10 minutes of the 1st quarter and then turned it off. I haven't been able to watch any footy for the last 2 weeks due to work, and was pumped to be able to watch Richmond play on Friday. Finally hit the "why bother?" stage and lost interest all together.

And did I hear correctly that the club announced another record membership on Friday? If so, we are in for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong painful couple of years as the club tries to measure success as to how much bullshit they can sell their fans.

Can't remember which quarter but at one stage we were going forward but then kicked it into the 50 and i think Jack was unable to mark, he was then beaten in a 3 on 1 battle where Norf kicked out to the commentary side flank. At this point the camera zoomed right out and as Norf made a chain of easy kicks down the wing, you could see 5 of our players in a line, un-manned, across our attcking side of the centre square. Jogging.
I lost my shit at this point. My dog was too scared to move. Absolutely pathetic effort.

This is the sort of shit that needs to change. Slow. Not manning up. No effort. No defensive mindset.

(i'm describing this from memory. if i can i might try and watch that bit again).

Well, I personally think that we can't make finals this year.

Going by what we saw from Richmond this year:

Of the remaining games, I think we'll lose to Port Adelaide at AO, Bulldogs at Etihad, Hawthorn, GWS in Canberra, Sydney at the SCG, and Geelong.

We'll probably beat Gold Coast, Brisbane and Essendon. St Kilda may possibly be a win too given that it is at the MCG, but I wouldn't say it is beyond us to lose this game. Let's just say it is a win though.

Collingwood is a 50/50 IMO.

That leaves us at 9-13 if we win against Collingwood, or 8-14 if we lose against Collingwood.

That would probably leave us at 13th/14th on the ladder.

I just don't know how we'll make finals this year. Those top 8/top 4 contenders will probably take their game up a notch so that they can make whatever they want to make, leaving us with little chance to overcome them IMO
