Hey guyssss

I'm heading over for the Carlton game this weekend at the G.

Quick question, I've heard that there's public access to the AFL Reserve on game day if there is a low crowd. Anybody had experience with this?

Basically I want seats on the flank/wing, 1st or 2nd level. The only seats available on the ticketek site are behind the goals where I assume most of the away supporters will sit. A few years ago I sat on the first level, Block M52 from memory at an away game against the Pies. Can't remember how that came about but it was with other Eagles supporters.

Any help pls?

I went to the Hawks v Syd game. Bought GA tickets at the gate, then snuck up a flight or 2 of stairs, through some boarded up corridor running through the guts of the grandstand and up into the members seats on the wing, 2nd or 3rd tier.

One thing about the G, theres not really any bad seats. Being up in the top tiers you feel like youre on the edge of the oval.

At half time they removed the members only signs from the seats we were in so anyone could sit there. But noone was checking (or cared) anyway. Buy GA tickets and roll the dice.

Telstra offer $20 tix to games to Telstra customers.. I just got some tix for the Collingwood game at the MCG. Got these as a "back up" with the idea in mind to try get up into the stands once the ground opens up.. under "general admission" Because yes the current reserve tix available online are in sheeit spots. They also put the away team pre-sale club members in the pocket on ground level which is crap as well. The WCE2016 code, you can enter into Ticketek.
So these Telstra tickets are currently in M16 which is ground level right on the wing! I got some in row P .. which I hope at least is a few rows elevated.

Going to same game with a couple of mates. First time at the G for me. Also checking out Etihad with Nth and Port.
Any advice would be helpful.
Sure OP would appreciate feedback as well.

As stated, there's really no bad view at the G. They might not open up the food and bars on the top tier if it's a small crowd - I've had that before during our down years.

As a Vic Member, my advice for those without tickets is just to rock up. It's only $23 for GA and as the crowd won't be big, you're able to sit basically anywhere on level 1 except MCC and AFL areas (30% of the ground).

As others have said, G is pretty good anywhere. Won't be big crowd.

Etihad is less forgiving. Some dreadful sightlines and overhangs. Spend the extra for level 2 seats.

I agree with all thats been said so far. You'll be fine just rocking up at the G and taking an non taken seat in a good viewing area that is obviously open to public, at Etihad I've sat on ground level and up the top tier in the past but definitely agree that ground level or 2nd tier are the best spots to view a game there.

Don't be sucked in thinking it won't be freezing because there's a closed roof over your head either!

UPDATE:

So about an hour after starting this thread, I checked ticket again and they had released more seats under general admission. Managed to snap some up on the wing, M16.

You sure it's M16? That's in the AFL members, and the info you'd included in your OP isn't right as far as I know - the only way non-members can get in the AFL Reserve is with a member, and by buying a guest pass.

M16 "open" (ie not under cover) has been left open as a walk up area for AFL members, meaning the only seats they would've "sold" (through member upgrades & guest passes) are the undercover seats, which are AA-LL (I think - it might be MM).

If you want to confirm where you're sitting I can give some advice on gates & public transport if you like.

I have tickets in this section ( M16) in the P row . for the Collingwood v Eagles game through Telstra.
If you have a telstra account you can get Level 1 undercover for tomorrow's game in M25 undercover
for $20 per ticket!

Really? Bugger me, I didn't know that!

To be selling tickets in the reserve for 20 bucks, and having seen in another thread how quickly people are being elevated up the full member waiting list, it sounds like they're really struggling to monetise the AFL reserve :(

Might send them an email on Monday and see if they'll tell me why they're letting the riff raff in ;)

Wtf I can't get general admission online ?

Edit - nah just ticketeks shit website

is level 2 wing any good for its price?

Depends on what the price is - given how good level 1 (level M) and level 2A (level P) both are, I find level 2 (N) to be shockingly over priced most of the time.

wow it's about $60 compared to $30 for 1 and 2a, insane, must be a reason for it.

I'm going to assume you're talking about the Southern Stand, cos only the Southern Stand has level 2A.

Level 2 in the Southern Stand is where a lot of the corporate areas are, so it can be full of a lot of suits - if you're a loud barracker it might not be a fun place to sit. I guess the other thing worth mentioning though is that Level 2 is kind of a guarantee of being undercover. If it's rainy + a little bit windy, you can sometimes get a little wet sitting on 2A - though you should be right if you can get something in rows D, E or F.

If you look elsewhere in the ground - namely the Ponsford Stand and the Olympic Stand, level 2 is excellent. With padded, and I think slightly wider seats, I think they're among the best seats in the ground. Although I remember sitting on level 2 in the Olympic Stand last year for the football (soccer) and I got ****ing drenched...
