Roast Selection Blunders

I can cope with the Shuey decision. But the Selwood thing has been going for 4 years. wtf?

If a bunch of randoms on an internet forum can recognise 4 F***ING YEARS AGO that A Selwood was past it, why can't Woosha and the MC?

Even worse, is that he has been worse than deplorable all year and they just keep playing him. This is just sheer incompetence.
Selwood wasnt supposed to play today Brennan was but there was a late change due to injury. Considering Hurn, Waters, Sheppard and Brennan are injured that left Selwood, Wilson and Butler. Wilson played in the WAFL yesterday so couldnt be selected which only leaves Butler as the other option and I'm not even sure he is up for selection atm. Would you rather they played no one? (You will probably say yes after his performance)

Also Selwood hasnt been rubbish for 4 years its only this year that he has fallen away badly. He was solid the last couple.

Im not defending Selwoods performances now either its just I dont understand why people are going off when the MC has really no other choice.

The fact we keep playing an underdone Naitanui when we could be getting games and relatively the same output out of Lycett infuriates me.

The fact we started Morton as the sub AGAIN, infuriates me. Turns out he played a whole half but ffs how do they expect him to show what skills he has with minimal game time?

The fact A.Selwood somehow managed to worm his way back into the team from sudden 'injuries' to brennan and rosa infuriates me.

The key points to take away from the presentation, is that i'm infuriated :thumbsu:

How do you explain every other game he has played this year? It's not like 80% of people on here (and we're average Joes) haven't been saying wtf? week in week out.

Yep.

He was solid last year but the 2 seasons before that he was useless.

1. Because he should have been delisted 2-3 years ago
2. Because they have been playing him all year and he's clearly no longer AFL standard
3. Prefer Butler. Prefer anyone than him

This is not a slight on Selwood as a person, the guy is just trying to play footy. This is a slight on Woosha and our MC.

I call for a new thread to be titled "Why you mad tho?"

And we all just unload our vent in there. I mad.

Brennan was due to play but did his calf yesterday, hence ASel coming in. The reason we kept two emergencies over was because Rosa was carrying a back complaint according to the ABC pre match.

As for NicNat, we may as well play Lycett, but if they medicos say he's fit and it wont do any more harm then you have to trust them or sack them.

I don't think we can afford to carry Glass, Mackenzie, Brown and Schofield in the same side. Brown has been in for 5 games in a row now. He hasn't disgraced himself by any means, but for mine the balance isn't right.

Assuming Glass retires at the end of the year and Brown doesn't bugger off, we should set up something like this:

B: Carter Mackenzie Waters
HB: Hurn Brown Schofield

I like the look of Carter. He should stay in the backline ahead of Butler. He can play on the nippy Ballantyne, Garlett types. If we play a team like Carlton with more than one, then we look at Brennan or McGinnity. If we go with a 7 man defence to free up a spare man then one of Waters, Hurn or Schofield has to rack up big numbers. Malceski is averaging 19 kicks a game, it's a huge weapon for Sydney. Too many of our guys get Darren Glass numbers and it kills us.

Not sure what's wrong with Rosa but I'd like to see Morton play on the wing this week from the start. We're never going to see if he's been de-Melbourned if he plays 20 minutes a game.

It seems the MC can't please anyone all of the time.
They were criticised pre game for playing Kerr in the WAFL
Now they are criticised post game for playing Shuey in the AFL. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Brennan and Rosa were injured that is the reason that Adam played because there was no other option.
The medical staff have to be allowed to make the decisions re the fitness of the playing group - that is their job. They advise the MC about the fitness of the players.
The MC have been dealt one of the worst injury runs in the competition so it has not been an easy year. I cannot remember a single week when we have not lost players to injury. It is difficult to maintain consistency of effort when each week there are numerous changes.

B: Carter Mackenzie Waters
HB: Hurn Brown Schofield
Prefer Waters out. If you can't kick you can't play. Waters is tough, reads ball well, will stand in hole, but poor kick and poor decision maker. Need someone who is calm, good decision maker, good disposal more than flight backing battery ram. Shepard would be ok if he hardened the **** up.

You're stalking me...

Waters was All Australian last year playing in defence. His disposal was better than I ever thought it could be. He has been meh this year but has only managed 7 games for the year. If he gets continuity, he uses the ball alright. If he is constantly catching up to match fitness he kicks like a drunk and is a liability. If he's not in defence, where is he? WAFL? Up forward? Traded out?

13 kicks, 10 handballs, 14 marks and 2 frees for. I wouldn't be upset if they got those numbers each week. ;-)

But seriously, I have to agree that our backline is solid but not dangerous like most others can be. With both Hurn and Waters playing they look better, but this year they've been figured out and exposed.

Second time I have initiated conversation with you in 5+ years.

It was still B grade even last year. The rest of his game was great but his decision making and disposal, whilst good for his standard, was still not up to scratch.

Which is a massive lliability. Everytime he has extended injury we have to wait 3 months for his kicking to lift from F grade to D grade.

If he's not in defence, where is he? WAFL? Up forward? Traded out?
Preferably traded. If not WAFL.

I just read that. Sounds to me like Woosha has finally accepted the team won't be playing in September, so he'll crack some heads over the next six weeks to weed out the crap before next year.
Well then he's a thick headed idiot then.

Most of us on here knew we wouldn't be playing finals after Round 4.

Seems like the Coach is about the only one with his head in the sand not accepting the reality.

What is more disturbing is that he's missed out on about 14 games in blooding players, trying different setups etc.... In other words, we've wasted a bloody year and are none the wiser on some of the fringe players.

What we do know, is that a big majority of the seniors are not up to it, but then we've known this for a while.

Round 5 bro round 5, that was the loss to port after we lead by 41pts remember? Remember the loss? To port? 41pts?

Can someone please tell me: Who makes up the match committee? Is woosha part of it? I would like to know their names and addressses so I can leave a nice little surprise at the front of their door step.

What would you feel as a player if a coach walked into the rooms after round 4 and said "guys, the year is ****ed. Your efforts in the last month have been so bad we can't turn it around and I have no faith in yours or my ability to do so. As such, we're dropping anyone over 28 and playing the kids for the next 18 matches"?

The players would move to get him sacked and replaced by someone who has some faith in them.

Sure Harry, I understand that.

But he looks down the camera and believes his own tripe.

What he should be doing, is staring down the camera and saying, "some of our players aren't up to it and what I will be doing is turning this list over until we get the right mix".

None of this, she'll be right mumbo jumbo.

Ah Yeah.... Nah

Carton, remember that game, it was all over then. A.Selwood getting torched continually on the rebound. Remember that.

Hmm but we still had "players to come back in" remember? We still had hope and stuff.

Like all our problems will be solved once Wellington comes back from his first injury and Nicnat too.

The port game took us to 1-4, i think that was the turning point more then the carltank game.

There is two issues here, the first is I don't think Woosh actually says what he thinks too often to the media and anything he says should be taken with a fair bit of salt.

The other is I wouldn't be a fan of a coach coming out at round 4 and saying they were going to turn the list over. From December to about October we can't change the list, other than promoting rookies, and we essentially have to play the hand we have been delt/delt ourselves.

As soon as we were knocked out last year in the finals he said we needed speed in the team and we went and got Cripps and Wellingham. I don't think Woosh is ignorant of the deficiencies in our team and of most of the players on the list, but I hardly expect him to spill it to the media, it's just not how he works.

If the current match committee all got a good case of gastro before the next few games' selection times and they had to bring in new people to do the selecting, I would be really, really, really okay with that.
