to be honest, I would only bring in Grigg for rnd 2 .. I am not sure right now Walker should be an automatic start-up, i know that's harsh, but I think he should spent another week at Cramer St and 'earn' his spot, instead of being 'giving carte blanche' to be put straight back in.

BTW Just on what esoteric said, I would drop Chris Johnson, didn't play a good game on Thursday night IMHO.

Aaah, not that simple.

I would not move Joseph off yet. He may well get power
Grigg and Walker must come in.

Russell and maybe even Scotland may be out this week.

no way they will drop Scotland. He is the leader of the defenders, he was selected for round 1 of a delayed preseason and as soon as Morton got on a run in the 1st quarter who did Ratts bring on... Scotland.

Also the fact he is one of our best kicks on either foot and one of the most experienced players as well.

Russell will not be dropped as well. After watching the replay of the game when I got home you can see that Russell did play a good game and stuck to his role as the defensive forward. As soon as he starts holding on in a few more tackles he will be very important to us (it is just a shame that a top 10 pick ended up being a defensive forward when normally they are the skilled players on the team, but lets not get started there:)). He is loved by the MC and he played much worse games last year and didn't get dropped.

As much as most of us hate it, it will be a rookie to make way for any inclusions as they are the least experienced and are pretty much the first to always go when more experienced players return. I can see Grigg coming in because he has had a great preseason and only just missed out last week after a minor injury. For who.... it'll be out of AJ or Garlett as much as I'd hate them to be left out, but you can only have 22 in your team.

Walker on the other hand is no certainty to play, as Ratts has stated many times he will not play underdone players and Walker has not had much of a preseason. He could play, and I would want him to play but I just seeing him getting another week at the Ants.

In the end:

In: Grigg
Out: AJ or Garlett (I seriously can't split them... but am leaning towards Jeffery as he was elevated later if that means anything:confused:)

Although CJ was not at his best against Richmond, I doubt he will be dropped as he was brought to the club for a specific reason, that being his kicking ability and no one that we bring in will be able to match him in the category.

The closest like for like switch would probably be Grigg for AJ as Grigg as been used many times as a tagger to good effect and could either go with one the Lions midfield guns (Black, Power etc) or on someone in the forward line Hooper.

I reckon Grigg is a near shoe to be included as he has become a really important part of our 22. The sad thing is anyone who is dropped will be hard done by. But thats what we need to become a succesfull team... competition, it it will make everyone give 100% because if they don't they will be playing in the Ants the next week.

I worry cause he really struggled bigtime on Mitch Morton, and heaven forefend if he plays on Brown or Bradshaw
It's obvious that CJ is a flanker, not a KPP defender ..
I think there is no doubt whatsoever that Grigga is part of our best 22 (starting 18 in fact) and he will be in for sure ..

I still sometimes question Andrew Walker's workrate and the 'perception' that he is somewhat 'laconic', I think he should be made to earn his spot, and spend another week or two in the Bullants, I think that generally Walker could be a much better player (i know he's had severe injuries) if he just started to work harder and become more 'disciplined'

Totally agree, if one were to come in as an 'apples for apples' selection,
would have Grigg for Johnson, who, while a nice kick, does get goals kicked on him, even in the NAB was being scored against. Could go back to the Bullies to work on defensive pressure.

Walker has missed so much footy in the last 18 months, with a recurring injury, would much rather him have another in the magoos to get match hard.

I really can't see JR being dumped.

Garlett is the obvious candidate because he looked a bit out of it late last week and didn't throw his body on the line a few times, but then countering that argument I think Ratts thought his defensive pressure was good and that is in many respects the cornerstone of our game plan and success right now.

So, it's a 50/50 call, and if a change is made it might be Walker (or Grigg) for Garlett.

If so I would lean towards Walks because I think he is a more natural fit for the Garlett role.

I would do it to be honest, I would drop Garlett for Walker. Just need to tell Garlett that he's done a sterling job but he's just a skinny kid and he has 12 years ahead of him at the Blues so don't take it personally.

Sorry just saw some other posts.

I'd be surprised if CJ was dropped.

He was outplayed in the air last weekend but I think they love his kicking skills and would back themselves in deciding to leave him in and let him work on the air skills over the coming weeks in the Ones.

Look it's very, very hard to drop players when you've won by 83 pts.

1 change maybe and even that is 50/50 or maybe even less likely.

Mind you, there's often a forced change we never know about until the teams are named or even a forced change on the day. Could be a niggling injury we haven't heard of.

But my bet is Walks in for Garlett. Grigg didn't play last week and they'd want to be 100% about his hammy so why risk him when we're firing? Better to play Walks who did very well last week in the VFL and who was firing pre-season so must be dying for a game in the Ones.

But then they might decide to give garlett one more game, with the expectation he might go so so and that will give them a reason to drop him next week. Come to think of it that is most likely.

So, NO CHANGE is my prediction.

:D

Rattan gets a stiffy over forward line pressure.

This gives Garlett every chance to stay in the side.

Should be jospeh and Russell IMO

As much as I want to see Walker and Grigg in the side playing with the Ants this weekend might do them some good without hurting Carlton too much. If it'll do them good then why not. I did hear Walker was very good in the VFL so he probably has earnt it.

We might need this game against the lions to get a better look and work out who our weaker links are just yet. I am willing to bet that Simpson while tough, athletic, smart and a ball magnet might get looked at if his kicking can't improve, Wiggins posses much the same qualities aswell as a marking forward option but he will be looked at if his kicking remains poor. Garlett is going to be a great forward for us but he's a bit light yet and getting pushed around a bit much and he'll be considered. Russell while he has the coaches respect for his work rate, athleticism, strong tackling and nice marking will have to improve his kicking and handball if he is to cement his place. Johnson I agree has not cemented his place but he's done enough and his kicking earns him some pretty big ticks.

The thing is Walker, Carrazzo and Fisher aren't know for good kicking either so they might struggle with that. Walker had appeared to have improved his kicking and he seams like he'll end up a good kick and Carrazzo knows his limits and often kicks short because long kicking is his weakness. Fisher on the other hand had better of improved a lot on last year and previous years.

Why do I get the feeling that you really dont like JR?

JR will not get dropped. Was good last week. Will be Joseph and Garlett dropped, 1AW to slot into the forward line.

No change, might be for the best. Get Walker and Grigg properly fit and hungry for a game. Sends blokes a message that if you get out of the side it's gonna be bloody hard to get back in so work hard. I don't mind that.
