Biggity bam S "Thinks he knows everything" J......like that?
Wow one person may agree with you. Congrats, Happy Easter.

What about King? How many times have we brought him back straight away for him to break down in the first quarter?

In my opinion he's not in our best 22 anyway.

Ooh, ooh, look thehoff! Someone agrees with me too!

My Dad would smash your Dad.

For my mind Mackie should be dropped for Kelly. Mackie has never lived up to his potential, is still too light for AFL and his disposal often lets him down.
Kelly looks like he is returning to the right headspace that saw him as one of our prime movers before his abysmal season last year.
King and Rooke need to get fitness up in the VFL.
David Johnson and Djidji will both just be unlucky after a strong team performance.

Byrnes - Dumb footballer, poor decision making. Sure he is quick but gives nothing else.

Is his nickname Blazer ?
He just blazes away at goal when he gets with in 50.He rarely looks for a better option.I think he kicked 1.4 the other night and goal he did get was all because of the work of Charlie.

He makes KK look accurate at goal.

All I can is that someone in the coaches box loves Byrnes. I'd have Tenace over him any day of the week. May not be our best player but he's just as quick and his disposal is far better. I thought Byrnes played a solid game but he is just so goddamn wasteful in front of goal.

Did you see the game last night ?
No way would Selwood or Prismall be dropped. Both were very good.

Selwood was alright. For a guy that's supposed to have OMGWTFPWNED foot skills, Prismall kicked it to the opposition or out of bounds an awful lot.

I'd have Djerrkura in ahead of both.He can play midfield, forward or half back.

Agreed. Tenace must play over Byrnes.

As you said, Byrnes is very wasteful.

Use your brains guys. Obviously Bomber has both Monty & Chuck in his Supercoach Team. Both pretty cheap and he can play them throughout the year to get his points up.:D

Tough one this, but i think Kelly must come in,he is definetly in our best 22. As he is coming back from suspension fitness should not be an issue.

King and Rooke need game time and should both have a couple of games in the Magoos.

D.Johnson to come in only if Hunt is injured.
Djerrkura ( I really like this bloke ) only at the expense of Varcoe as I don't believe we should or need to have too many inexperienced players in the team all at once. At this stage Varcoe stays in and during the year I think these two will interchange thus both gaining game time without the worry of burnout.

Who gets dropped:
Sellwood seemed a little unsure with his ball handling and in the first half when the heat was on he fumbled and looked unsure.
Prismall did some very good work but I thought his kicking led him down.
Byrne's kicking for goal once again let him down but will stay in one more week until Stokes returns.
Therefore I think may be Sellwood, let him get 30 possessions in the Vfl play 100 minutes regain some confidence as he will be needed later in the year.

This is a bit scary Sarah - we think alike. I thought Selwood at least got better as the game wore on but yeah he fumbled a bit and his disposal wasn't quite pinpoint. Same with Prismall.

Byrnes........adds zip around the packs but give the ball to anyone else in front of goal.

I guess then we now need to ask what is our best 22? Is depth going to be a problem not because we have a lack of it but way too much?

My best 22 is:

B: J.Hunt M.Scarlett M.Egan
HB: D.Milburn T.Harley* D.Wojcinski
C: C.Enright C.Ling J.Bartel
HF: P.Chapman C.Mooney J.Kelly*
F: S.Johnson* N.Ablett T.Hawkins
R: B.Ottens J.Corey G.Ablett
Int: M.Rooke* S.King* B.Prismall J.Selwood
(*=players out or on the brink of being back)

That therefore means that these players are fighting for these positions:

J.Hunt v D.Johnson/T.Callan: Hunt attacks more than Johnson but DJ is the much better defender in terms of shutting down a small opponent IMO. I have always liked Callan too, for his hardness at it, but with our current gameplan I think attack is what we need, and I see Hunt as the best fit.

J.Kelly/S.Johnson v M.Stokes/S.Byrnes/T.Varcoe: I think Kelly is being pushed out of a midfield role, and unless he lifts his game he will be left playing the small forward role. Due to his natural ability, I would give him a shot there ahead of the others first, if he fails, put Stokes in.

B.Prismall/J.Selwood v K.Tenace/A.Mackie/N.Djerrkura: The kids have shown more here, despite Mackie impressing me of late off half back. But who do you keep him in for? Where is there a spot for the guy when all this young blood is coming through. As for Djerrkura, I want to see him play soon. I've loved his forward defensive skills and his speed off the mark is unmatched. Where to put him though? My though is the wing/hb, but it's hard to see who you would bring him in for.

S.King v M.Blake: Play a guy that is unfit but has a reputation for playing good footy in the past, or play a guy ranked in the top ten for hit outs this season but struggles around the ground. It's a tough one, but you would think King will get the nod when fit.

T.Hawkins v C.Gardiner: Don't laugh, remember we are talking about Bomber Thompson coaching here. Will he play the obviously talented but somewhat untried Hawkins each week over his love child, the great Charles Gardiner? I hate to say it but Charlie has played good footy the last two weeks and showed a bit pre season. And remember the start of the season Bomber saying Charlie was in the 6 man forward line for the year? Grim, I know, and it looks like Hawkins is the only one he can replace. Who knows with Thompson.

This week I would hope no changes are made. The side looked good, leave it that way. Or, with the injuries Melbourne are facing, go with one less big man, e.g Gardiner or Mackie, and bring in Djerrkura, it can only be good for the kid and the team.

And that's my two cents...

Kelly I think will come in for Selwood. Whilst Selwood has hardly done anything wrong I hope we don't flog the kid too hard too early. There is a fine balance between getting game time and experience into the young guys and overdoing it. Selwood may benefit from a couple of games in the magoos before coming back up again.

Prismall has a mature body and will be a player. Needs to play every game this year.

Would like to see Tenace or Djerkurra come in for Byrnes. Preferably Tenace.

Rooke to come in for Gardiner when fit. Similarly King for Blake.

Unfortunately because we know how Bomber thinks so often we will have to put up with Brynes for at least another week until Stokes is back I think.

And we Know Bombers inching to get King back in the side as soon as he is right Just hope he leaves Ottens as number 1 and King starts taking some mark around the ground. For a guy the size of him , he a letdown with his marking when near the forward line. but knowing Kingy he wont be around for long anyway.

Kelly looked great in the twos the other week and should go straight back in maybe for Selwood more so than Prismal I hope. It wont hurt Joel to be dropped for a few weeks,

Bloody hell, why are people wanting Selwood dropped. He needs all the experience he can get, and Is only gonna get better with each match he plays.

I agree. I think we should play him in a loose defensive role, like Carlton did with Gibbs on Sat night. This seems to be what many clubs are doing to get young guys into the game/experianced with some easy possessions... H.Shaw / D.Swan etc..

After watching the replay today i'd go with:

King - VFL.

Rooke - VFL. Even though i'm his biggest fan, still wouldnt pick him, he hasnt played at all this year, and after playing really well against Carlton it would just be too harsh to drop someone for Rooke who hasn't played at all this year.

Gardiner - Keep him in the 1's. Has played his best ever football so far this pre-season and actual season. So he'll stay. He's had years of crapness and rarely got dropped so it's unlikely he'll be dropped now. The big MCG should be good for him where he can roam up to the wing to get the ball leaving Mooney and Nablett close to the goals.

Varcoe - Stay

Hawkins - Stay

Djerkurra - VFL. No rush to get him in as yet, Varcoe is there already, not convinced they should both be in the AFL side together at this early stage.

Byrnes - Really don't rate him, and he's the only omission id make. He's dumb and can't kick. Kelly is a far superior option.

Kelly - In for Byrnes.

Stokes - VFL. Kelly goes in before him.

Against a side like the Eagles I agree...but against the Blues I thought the wing suited him fairly well. As the game went on he started to get into it...still struggling with the pace of the game but he is doing remarkably well for a guy who only played 3 games last season.
