MYSTERY still surrounds the make-up of Collingwood's team to tackle Geelong in Saturday night's preliminary final after the Magpies trained at the MCG on Wednesday morning.

Ruckman Josh Fraser (knee), midfielder Scott Pendlebury (broken leg), emerging onballer Dayne Beams (calf) and veteran forward Anthony Rocca (ankle) all joined their teammates in the brief hit-out and seem set to come into calculations for the match against the Cats.

However, Fraser appeared a little proppy, with his right knee heavily bandaged throughout the session.

Pendles and Fraser won't play is my bet. Neither will Rocca.

Beames MAY come in.

Personally, knowing who's fit and what not I'd go..

In: Beames, Dawes
Out: Macaffer, Toovey

But I know Malthouse would NEVER drop Toovey since he's the new Paul Licuria for Mick. Once Bucks takes over, Toovey won't get a game.

I really hope they don't drop Macaffer.

I also hope Mcaffer doesn't get dropped either.

Changes:
NONE
unless Pendles gets up.

....and what was wrong with Licuria exactly? The man was a gun and deserved 2 all australian selections..

Fraser had a "huge" bandage/strapping on his knee during the last training session before the Stkilda final, and then on the day of the game had no strapping, and the knee subsequently failed.

Maybe Josh is going to play with strapping this week, and it will just take him a while to get used to it.

Either way, Marty Clarke has to come into the side, he is a Geelong specialist.

Interesting stat at the end of that article about Medhurst, shows he has been having shots at goal, it's just his accuracy that has been terrible.

From that article I think the following is close to true;

* Medhurst will play
* Rocca won't play this week at least
* Pendlebury is not really a chance
* Beams will be fit, up for selection
* Fraser is still 50/50

That's just my take on the article though.:thumbsu:

Toovey has also arguably had his best fortnight of footy, no way on earth he will be dropped

Not really.

Slow, short, weak in contests, lack of skill/class and was the no.1 turnover player in the AFL for something like 2 or 3 years straight (top 3 at least).

All he had was fitness. He could run all day/night. Outisde of that, probably the most overrated player in AFL history.

And when you DO say something negative about him, EVERYONE mentions the same final against Port Adelaide where he got 40 posessions. That's it. He has ONE game to hang his hat on in a 10 plus year career.

I wouldn't be dropping either of Toov's or Maccaffer.

I think Wellingham is first in line L Brown second and Medhurst 3rd.

I also think Dawes should be no where near the side. Dawes in for L Brown out is a nil all draw in my books Dawes in for Macaffer out is a poor move.

I don't like the uncertainity about the healths of so many possible in's coming into such a big game.

In reality we may see just the one change with one of Clarke or McCarthy in for Wellingham.

he won 2 best and fairests so i would say playing only 1 good game is pretty far off the mark :thumbsd:

Best and fairest in a grand final year and you say he played 1 good game in his career. That was his best game yes, but he played many many very good ones. In the later stages of his career he was an absolute hack tho I'll give you that.

None of the injured players will be selected. Not even Beams, unfortunately for him Sidebottom and Maccaffer have stolen his spot. Sidey cant be dropped because he was bog last week, and we need Macaffer as a forward option considering Medhurst cant find the pill.

The only possible change will be Wellingham out for an in-form defender or mid to perform a specific role for MM - Clarke or Cook the main chances if he wants a defensive run-with type with McCarthy and Stanley possibilities as well if he wants an extra inside mid to provide extra cover for the loss of Pendlebury. Beams of course is a chance too but as above I reckon he'll miss out.

The morons above who want Toovey dropped should be ignored.

Dawes will be considered but at the end of the day they will stick with L Brown and Cloke doing the second ruck duties.

Goldsack by all accounts has been earmarked for a role on Stevie J. I very much doubt he'll be dropped unless Fraser comes up and we decide to go with two rucks.

I really hope they don't drop Macaffer.

Same. And I really hope they don't drop Toovey. That would be suicidal.

If Pendlebury is fit he should come in for Wellingham and Beams for Goldsack.

Nothing against either player, but Beams and Pendlebury are better performers.

Hack would be putting it mildly.

Going to have to side against Licuria, although I seem to appreciate him more now he is retired.

He was one, like O'Bree and Johnson* that I never really liked. Did way too many indiscriminate things like kicking to no one and turning the ball over. No use getting the ball if you just give it back again.

O'Bree I'm just being a bit harsh on...

Also Toovey won't get dropped... he is the new Ben Johnson (but A LOT better)

* I realise Ben Johnson had an amazing game against Adelaide

People need to get serious about Pendles injury. Why would you play someone with his injury only 2 weeks after it occured? Even if he did play, I doubt he would be as effective as one of our properly healthy players.

If beams is fit I want him in, but I also want Bottom and Caf' in. Hard selections this week.

Just heard on fox news, think it was Lica at a press conference. Pebs will not play this week. Then i had to laugh at the next comment, He could come in for the grand final depending on who we play. GOLD nothing like confidence. Please god help us get through to the GF.

Geelongs Midfield group is still the best going around. We really need to get close to breaking even to be anywhere near them on the scoreboard.
Therefore I wouldnt change the side. You dont bring any guys into the team that are injured. So there is certainly no way I would bring injured players in to play in the only part of the field I think we would get beaten.

I guess there is no such thing as damage limitation in a final... But I figure that a Wood/Brown ruck duo is allready improved on the Richards/Bryan duo of 2007. And I dont believe we need Fraser to go forward. If any of these blokes came in and didnt last the game, we will spend the next 6 months spewing that Mick went back on his word and played injured blokes.

Are you sure you have'nt forgotten to take some kind of medication?
Crap summation of a very good player.:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Wellingham won't get dropped. He is needed as a defensive midfielder.

MaCaffer is the best chance to get dropped if one of Beams or Pendles come in. Probably even Fraser too. Would love to see Clarke come in, but I just don't see it happening.

Interesting that to a man (or poster or woman) on here we all agree that we should not play anyone who is carrying an injury, yet that is exactly what Geelong are going to do, play "suspect" players.

Steve Johnson, no matter what anyone says, is a risk.

Brad Ottens has played 2 games since round 6.

Max/Jarrod Rooke has struggled to train recently.

Yet Geelong seem certain to go in with all these players and even a few more under injury clouds.

This makes it even more important for us to pick 22 fit players that barring new injuries during the game can complete a whole 4 quarters.

We failed to select like 22 fit players against Stkilda, and we lost by 4 goals, we just have to get it right this time, a shot at a flag is on the line now.
