Against the Roos this week for the first time this season there might even be some decisions to be made at the selection table.

I see where Hewitt had a good game for Norwood, Burton gained some match fitness and was BOG for WWT reserves, Eccles played for Norwood reserves, Skipworth had an impressive game for WWT, Richardson got 3 goals out of not too many for Westies. Crowell and Bassett also look as though they may be available.

Of those six names mentioned, perhaps two have a realistic chance for inclusion this week. But the point is, its good to have a choice for a change, to be able to select the players with the best form, players which make the best match-ups.

So what is the view on selections this week. Who might be dropped, who might get in?

I can only see one probable change. I don't think they will risk McGregor's knee so Hewitt should come in. But thats about it.

I was thinking of that as well Crows.ok, for once there may be a welcome selection dilemma for the crows committee.

Supposedly Shir and McGregor are under fitness clouds so they may need to be replaced. Crowell and Bassett should be ready to come back, while Hewitt performed well for Norwood. I think probably one of those two defenders and Hewitt will get the recall. I'd definitely like to see Burton come back in as well, but at the expense of who?? Maybe Shirley or O'Loughlin. I think Eccles should have another run with Norwood before he comes in.

Another interesting thought is whether we need a second ruckman, Biglands. I like having the second specialist ruckman, but if Clarke rucks the whole game and Robran relieves him, that leaves Rhett warming the bench for most of the 4 quarters. That spot could be better used with another running player or a spare defender (either Crowell or Bassett). Or was last week's game an exception and will Biglands have more game time against the Kangas?? Just a thought.

My Ins

Hewitt
Crowell/Bassett
Burton

My Outs

Beinke
O'Loughlin
Shir (Supposedly only a 50/50 chance)

I know these are a few changes for a winning team, but this will go a long way to getting our best 22 onto the park in my opinion.

Hopefully we can get a few players back in, coz if we dont make changes, out players will start feeling a little

Hello everyone, I just can't help myself on this one. The only selection dilemma you face is trying to get a reasonable player to put into your team. Burton had one good year and then has been too injury prone, while Hewitt is a complete dud and the rest are either never going to make it or are on the way out.
As I said, that is a real dilemma.

I can only comment on the SANFL games i saw. Hewitt didnt have that good a game. He got given about 8 free kicks in front of goal, and he only kicked something like 2.4 and he also missed completly 3 times as well. Eccles got a few touches in the reserves for the quarter and a bit i saw of that.
Skipworth was one of the best on ground but i think he should play a few more games at that level to get his confidence right up, cos he doesnt seem to be used much at AFL levle yet. Richardson had a dirty day, and kicked 2 late goals to get the tally to three...other than that he didnt do much.

Hewitt was the dominant forward on the ground along with another Crow Stuart Bown

I don't know what game you were watching.

Umpiring was crap both ways ( I don't follow either side)

TOA was a laugh a minute at full forward however.

I find it strange Macca, that everyone else said Hewitt had a very good game, the dominant forward on the ground, a key to the Redlegs' victory (which I'm still dirty about

) and you reckon he didn't have that great a game. Putting down Crow players as usual. I never said he was Carey-like dominant or anything but he had a good game and should be in line for a recall. I also reckon his kicking for goal is pretty good, I mean at least he's no Warren Tredrea. Then again he didn't even score against St. Kilda did he??

I love it how everyone is saying "Port still kicked a lot of goals even without Tredrea and Cornes contributing" It's been that way for the past 3 games and will probably continue for the next 18. Course, I reckon Port fans would rather have Dew, Francis, Burgoyne and Wangas kicking for goal than you're 2 "key" forwards.

hmm, didnt notice Stuart Bown at all. Mind you i didnt have a budget on me. Hewitt was only the dominant forward beacuse he got given every bloody kick he got!!!

Well becuase im a Magpies supporter, i saw it as the only kicks he got were given to him by the umpire. He kicked 2.4 and 2 on the full...hardly a fantastic game. If tredrea had of kicked that, youd all laugh and call him useless...but because he is a crow he ends up being "the most dominant player on the ground". Cornes is usually a straight kick...Tredrea, well his first game he kicked 3 goals 1 or something. >He hasnt really been in a goalkicking situation since.
It shows we have a lot of options and avenues to kick goals from.

And also they said he was the moast dominant FORWARD on the ground.
He kicked the most score, so therefore this is true. Sure he could have got a better return, but the fact that he kicked poorly and still got teh most would imply that he was infact the dominant FORWARD.

and again GO you Leggies!!!!!!!

The SANFL statistics printed in the SM on page 58 have Hewitt listed as having 9 kicks, 6 marks, 5 handballs, only 3 frees for, 1 free against, 3 goals, 4 points and no hit outs or tackles.

The guy recording these stats for Hewitt must have been at a different Port / Norwood game than the one Macca went to, hey?

Sorry guys, but Hewitt will be a successfull flop for you in the AFL. Those stats are hardly anything to get excited about when your thinking of someone to play in the AFL.

Most dominant forward in the game hey?? Gee, thats fantastic statistics!!!

Well Santos, not all teams can have the calibre of Bowen Lockwood running round in the SANFL. I hear he's going to be a star for Port, part of a 3 pronged forward line. What has he actually done to deserve this lofty status?? Can hardly remember him taking a mark actually.....

He kicked 4 goals in Ports first ever win, also getting Rising star noinmation in that game. He kicked 3 goals in the domination of Carlton in 98. He also kicked 4 goals against North at Manure Oval as well. He kicked 4 goals on his 1999 debut against North at the MCG. he kicked 3 goals in Ports second win of the year against Collingwood last year helping us win the match. His best game however was the last showdown last year where he was nearly best on ground kicking 4 goals again. He has taken 138 marks in 48 games...one which was one of the marks of the year in 1998 against North in Manure oval.
He probably would be our main forward if it wasnt for constant back problem.
Now tell me what exactly Evan Hewitt has done at AFL level??

Fine macca, made your point but you're picking out one game here, one game there, most from 3 years ago.

"Well, in 1997 he played one good game, then in 1998 he played one another reasonable one, then in 1999 he kicked 4 against the Kangas. Last year he played one good game.... etc."

For a supposed top talent he is way too inconsistent in between his many injuries. Now if someone is going to bag Hewitt then I'm going to bag Lockwood. Also, Hewitt has played for a side consistently making finals, winning flags with Carey, McKernan in the side. Hasn't had many opportunities. Now if he's a big flop, he'll be right up there with good ol' Bowen.

BTW, he did lay one of the greatest ever tackles on Rehnny to help win the Kangas the Round 6 game, 1998 against the Crows. Onya Evan

Saw Lockwood in the Anzac Day game yesterday.

He looked really out of sorts and out of confidence.

I am actually a Lockwood fan (as much as a crows person can be) but he did not look good

Hewitt had Carey and McKernan et al to compete with at the Kangas.

What he's done in the AFL is tackle Shaun Rehn in 1998 to get holding the ball

I am sure you revelled in that when it happened Macca.
