I find it quite surprising that posts relating to Moran are so vitriolic and generally personal.

He earnt his spot playing excellent footy with WAFC, and from all accounts went back there with a very good attitude. He has had 2 games back at AFL level, a good first half againt the Dogs but ran out of puff. I for one thought he was ok last week and certainly not our worst player by any stretch.

I hope he sticks it up all of you on Saturday.

Some just see him as a taller Jericho. To some extent they are right but like Jericho, Moran will command a spot over others because he offers more than the alternatives at our disposal at the time. Hasn't done enough to be dropped, and until he puts on an unforgivably poor showing (think Jericho vs Port round 16 last year) he deserves his spot.

Frankly I think he has a lot to offer, so I hope he can break through the marshmallow barrier...he can be soft but this doesn't have to be the case for the rest of his career.

Re: Reilly dropped!! (but Shirley in pending SANFL Tribunal)

ok guys....... i can't name my source... but i saw jimmy sellar on rundle street today, i got excited and looked at him a lot so i think he knew i was a Big Footy poster, or was just wondering why a 25 year old male was excited by him, so i think that's why he's pushing for selection................

can anyone confirm??

Probably thought you were the bloke taking potshots at Travis Cloke.

It's called bigfooty groupthink or Gramsian logic. If enough people assert it it becomes conventional wisdom, challenging the conventional wisdom becomes too dangerous and hence people fall into line.

It's what we get for having a mathematician phd mod rather than a politics phd mod;)

Could be worse, we could have a philosophy phd mod :D

i think its the fact that athletically he could be anything but he lacks intensity or is 'soft' and not reading the play probably makes him look worse in that aspect than he is.

well Moran is fairly mobile can take a mark and can kick straight

Tippet can do 2 out of those three.

You obviously didn't see the Bulldogs match, 15m out straight in front:eek:

Well this is his third chance actually and Griffin got dropped after one week, or should I say "tonsilitis" Not to mention all the chances Moran has had previously and failed. I just don't rate him at all, bring in bloody Sellar if you have to.

Griffin had two weeks, Melbourne and Port and tonsilitis had nothing to do with Griffin being dropped.

If we had someone showing something exceptional in the SANFL, then I'd be all for dropping Moran, but at the moment we don't and whilst I wouldn't say he's been particularly good, I can't say he's been that bad either, so IMO worth giving him another week or two at least.

Yeah, that's a bloody strange move.
Very happy to see Ivan back in the side, but surprised to see it happen without either Moran getting the boot or Tippett becoming a permanent full forward.
Didn't even consider this option and, quite frankly, not sure I like it. Then again, Moran has got form against Carlton. Killed them last year. Let's hope he can do it again!

Interesting to see Reilly get the boot. Apart from his goal, he really didn't do much last week I guess.

Yeah but Reilly wasn't by himself playing bad last week!! And if by all reports Griffen beat Maric in the ruck wtf is he back in? (I'd rather Ivan in)

Douglas should feel rather relieved...

I am surprised you say that, as unabashed anti-fan I haven't noticed anything too personal or vitriolic at all. in fact, much of it seems to be quite humourous or at a minimum slightly facetious.

now I won't suggest for a second that players haven't be subjected to OTT personal attacks, but the comments against moran's efforts haven't seemed excessively personal to me.

If you trust the AFC.com.au report Maric didn't play much in the ruck last week and spent most of his time up forward instead.

Really? Not when he's holding one of these...

And Griffin injured his hamstring.

we look a bit tall if moran is staying in, looks like he's now going to become a forward!

Wouldn't say we look too tall, against Brisbane we went in with 2.5 (Rutten, Stevens and maybe Otten), 2 ruckman/forwards(Tippet and Moran) and 1 permanent "tall" forward in Walker, I'd hardly say we'd be too tall if we add another tall player, especially since Moran and Tippet play KPP as well as they do ruck.

I dare say conventional wisdom outstrips the english language.

winner.

where do we send the prize for most pretentious comment of the week? :D

Ps. Gramscian logic is an oxymoron. he pioneered the idea of "you all agree with me, you just don't know it".

His theories may be an explanation for the failure of Marxism to spread, with the key being "an". there are a few others too. :p

Edit: pretty sure it was churchill who once said that anyone in their 20's who is not a socialist has no heart, and anyone in the 30's who is not a capitalist has no brain.

You don't find this to be both personal & vitriolic in it's intent towards Moran?
Not sure what the peroxide ridden candygirl is still doing in the side.
It's far from the only such comment posted this week, just the most convenient one to quote from this thread.

Geeez.... i gave Douglas 3 votes in our POTY last week!

- i had better go watch a replay - obviously one of us was in a trance whilst watching that game

I prefer "your all entitled to my opinion" :D

OK, we get it. You hate Douglas. So who should come in for him then? Its an incomplete argument to point out the problems with playing Douglas without putting up an alternative strategy.

Will never ever happen.
